About

Eleven-year-old Iggy wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he dragged his friends out to the woods to attempt a strange ritual from a book he found in the dumpster at school, but his wildest imagination couldn’t have prepared him for the land of wonder and magic that awaited them at the bottom of that old willow tree.
Now, however, it’s twenty years later, and he and his friends are past the age of make-believe. The wonderland of their youth has become nothing more than a far-off dream—until one night, Bucks and her newborn daughter disappear without a trace. Soon, Iggy and his friends find themselves pulled back into that world of childish glee. Only their wishes and desires aren’t so innocent anymore, and the world has twisted itself into a land of horror and depravity that’s scarcely recognizable.

Our Wonderland is a horror-fantasy visual novel focusing on the struggles, issues, and deteriorating relationships between five childhood friends (amplified to horrific effect). I think of it a bit like an overwrought character drama that happens to include horrific and fantastical things. It contains five different arcs, each with its own ending, and your choices affect the amount of peril the protagonist experiences (hint: how many times Iggy violently dies), as well as the final ending (hint: who Iggy ends up with at the very end, because apparently in some messed-up way, this is also the world's worst dating sim).
As an extra note, this game also touches on a lot of LGBTQIA+ themes.
Our Wonderland was originally released episodically on itchio between 2021 and 2024. This Steam release is the newly remastered version with overhauled art, new features, and many quality-of-life updates.

A dramatic, emotional, and occasionally horrific visual novel told in five arcs, each with its own ending
Four possible epilogues based on your choices (1 neutral and 1 for each of the 3 LIs Iggy can end up with)
20 to 25 hours of playtime (around 288k words of reading)
Storybook-style visuals accentuated by a weird, colorful art style
Over 570 CGs/illustrations (that's a whole heck of a lot)
Some super sweet animatic-style cutscenes for important, poignant scenes (easier to cry to)
12 ways to violently die! (if you want to, of course)
A fun cinematic soundtrack and lots of dramatic sound effects for an immersive experience

I just finished the first act and i'm CRYING OUT LOUD. This is amazing. I loved this game, the characters, and how everything is developing. I became obsessed this last week with genzo and iggy as I see myself and my boyfriend in them (physically) Now after checking carrot's twitter every single day i saw this game. It's my first time playing a visual novel and I basically loved it. I'd really recommend this game. PLEASE I NEED THEM TO BE TOGETHER.
I first played this game on itch,io and oh my gosh the amount of enjoyment that I had for the writing, the attachment I got to these characters, this game became something special to me! The after stories are a great add on and I really got to enjoy the characters in a new way, this is an amazing project thank you for adding it to steam!!!!

For the life of me, I cannot believe such a wonderfully crafted game could be free. Incredible atmosphere, characters and writing. Loving it to bits.
TLDR REVIEW: STORY: 10/10 ART STYLE: 10/10 WORLD-BUILDING : 10/10 CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: 10/10 A fresh, well-crafted and perfectly executed idea. Stop reading this review and go play this ASAP. Carrot, I genuinely don't know where to start. Our Wonderland is, without exaggeration, one of the most powerful pieces of art I've ever had the privilege of experiencing. I actually played the game years ago, before Chapter 4 had even been released, and I became a fan almost instantly. Ever since then, I've been following the progress of the remaster, your posts on social media, and seeing the love and care you've continued to pour into this project. Playing it again now that it's been finally released on Steam , it only reminded me why it left such a lasting impression on me in the first place. What you've built here is something completely original. The story manages to be both romantic and deeply disturbing, weaving those two things together in a way that never feels accidental ,it's intentional, fearless, and brazen. It's captivating in a way that pulls you in and refuses to let go, even through its most unsettling moments, and boy, there ARE MANY DELIGHTFUL UNSETTLING MOMENTS IN OUR WONDERLAND HEHEHE :3 But what left the biggest mark on me are the characters. They are so human , flawed, complicated, and real in a way that fictional characters rarely achieve. I found myself genuinely caring about their stories and their fates, and even years after finishing it, they haven't left my mind, especially our main silly beans Gen and Iggy. That kind of lasting emotional weight is rare, and it's a direct result of how much love , dedication and craft went into every single beat of their development. Regarding the art of this VN; your style is so singular and unmistakably yours. It doesn't just illustrate the story; it becomes the story. The visual tone fits the emotional world of Our Wonderland so perfectly that I genuinely can't imagine it looking any other way. It's a style that complements everything , the tenderness, the dread, the violence, the wholesomeness , the perfectly crafted juxtaposition between the innocence of childhood and the horrors we're exposed to while immersing ourselves deep in the plot , but most importantly, the beauty and excitement of it all. Thank you for creating something so unique, so well-written, and so genuinely moving. Our Wonderland is a rare gem, and the fact that it came entirely from one person , one wonderful person who has been wronged and to whom life has tested so much in the past year , yet never stopped caring about this gem of a game, makes it all the more breathtaking. I hope you know how deeply it resonates with the people who experience it. Thank you Carrot, thank you, so so so sooooo much for the wonderful story you've bestowed upon us.
I came into Our Wonderland expecting a good visual novel, but it hooked me much faster than I expected. I'm only on Day 2, and I'm already loving the adventure, the world, and the way the game introduces its characters, making me excited to learn more about them as the story unfolds. And yes... GENZOH deserves his own paragraph. I genuinely love his personality. He's kind, friendly, dependable, surprisingly capable, and somehow every scene with him makes me smile. Even his character sprite is ridiculously adorable. Honestly, he gives me the feeling that, in another universe, he'd make an amazing dad. Watching his relationship with the protagonist develop has easily become my favorite part of the game. Came for the story. Stayed for Genzoh. 10/10.
I played the original version of this last month, and I absolutely loved it! Awesome art, awesome character writing, and a great sense of tension and horror. All for free! Absolutely recommend.
It’s really good. Just completed Arc 1. There are 5 Arcs.
I'm not nearly done, but I'll leave my first impression as reviews help with visibility! I've not played the original, so I can't tell how the remaster compares. But I can tell that this is an incredibly polished and likewise competently constructed game. It's chock-full of art to the point of having a near-equal amount of screen time consisting of CGs as there is of sprites. And it's clearly not the result of an overbloated art budget. The solo creator felt that each one was important enough to spend time and effort on (often twice over; this is a remaster after all!), and that pays off when they have such a strong sense of scene direction and visual language. The choices of music and sound is effective too considering they're royalty free, and much like visuals utilize programming functions to make them more dynamic. While I'd assume the creator is a visual artist first, they're certainly no slouch when it comes to writing. Having only played My Vampire Boyfriend Smokes Lucky Strikes before this, it's interesting to see how it fares with a bigger cast. The same sense of humour is present here as well (perhaps to a lesser extent), but the character voices being unique and consistent shines through with the bigger sample size. We get some characterisation of the characters as kids, and I see a direct line of progression to their development into how they are as adults already. Strong character voices is difficult as is, so balancing that with different ages and pulling it off is even more impressive. The only things which are, albeit small, downsides are UI things. The game foregoes nametags in favour of coloured text for dialogue to have prose more akin to novels than what's typically found in visual novels. While I'm not colourblind and can't say if this impacts the experience for such players, it can get a bit confusing when there's too many characters in a scene and I have to remember what they're colour-coded as. Additionally, the history screen seems to have been removed, which unless caused issues due to coding of more important features feels like a pointless omission. (Personally, I'd rather pull that up than spam the back button to re-read something, and less crucially use it to screenshot a pencilfire part to send to friends.) Small gnat bites aside, there's so much to like here and I can't believe there's not even a price tag attached. Play it, it's literally free! (Genzou is so 👉👈, I can't NOT mention that)
Played the original on itchio, writing a review to help boosting. This is a great game with a lot of heart and memorable moments, if you're easily disturbed you might need to check the trigger warnings just in case but besides that I wouldn't miss on this experience. I hardly believe that so much content is also totally free! Pretty much I can't wait to play the remaster when got a bit of more free time on my hands <3 PS: Since I'm on it I recommend trying the other games with the same characters on itchio, all free as well!
I have read the original version, and god, what a journey it has been. It's very rare for a piece of media to send me into such a rollercoaster of emotions, and OW very much succeeded. OW has everything I love in a good story + so much more. I would call it not only one of my most favorite visual novels but even one of my most favorite pieces of midea of all time. Now I can't wait to reread it and see all the improvements and extras the remake has to offer. Please do yourself a favor and experience this story too!
