I'm a little bit dissapointed. This game looks and sounds really great but that's it. (So far) There is no lore, no story being told and nothing else to explore. You just fly from A to B, destroy some asteroids and move on to the next planet. You'll finish the game before maxing the weapon upgrades and the money you get for crafting items is only being used for 4 other ship-models, each available for $50. I finished the game with 300k wihout anything to spend on. If that's what you're looking for and if you're willing to pay about € 16,- for 3 hours of gameplay go on and take it, otherwise I would not recommend to buy it.
This is not a game. This is a tech demo. You should be able to "lose" a game. Even if not lose, you should at least be aware that you're doing it wrong. If you are inclined to try this anyway, take a careful note of your play time to not exceed two-hour refund barrier. You may need it.
From what I've played so far, 'Our Nation's Miner' seems to be a modern take on the classic 'Asteroids' experience with a bright, colourful design and a decent upgrade system. Essentially, it's a mix of the old and the new. Flying around the hub areas can be surprisingly serene, with impressive background aesthetics and a soothing sci-fi soundtrack. When it comes to blasting asteroids, playing around with the various weapons as you unlock them can be a satisfying experience, and the visual effects combine with the audio to create an oddly calming atmosphere. It's like comfort food. The only cons I can think of right now are that the interior spaces are quite small, the lore, while intriguing, is not fully explored, and there could be more to spend well-earned cash on. All of which would be great to see expanded upon in a future update. Apart from that, the game is fun! If you're looking for an arcade-style space shooter, I say give it a try.
There are many great retro arcade clones and otherwise inspired video games. This is not one of them. :-(
First off, what is Our Nation's Miner? What it's supposed to be is a space game where you pilot a ship, gather resources, craft, and better your ship. So far so good. In reality, Our Nation's Miner a good attempt at a good idea, but it falls short. If you are about to add Our Nation's Miner to your cart, here's what you're getting yourself into: .Story/Premise. There's not much of one. Basically shoot stuff to make stuff so that you get the clearance to shoot more stuff and make more stuff. .Controls. Sloppy and slippery. In some situations, this can be a good thing (heh)... Just not when you're trying to pilot your super cool space ship all over an admittedly beautiful universe in order to shoot at asteroids or sell materials. They feel entirely unresponsive and, even if you aren't moving your ship using the wasd keys (you use the mouse to aim your lazers), it tends to drift all on its own until it hits something and is forced to stop. It's unnecessarily difficult to manuever into the ports that The firing is also unsatisfactory. It sounds nothing like a lazer and the feedback when blasting an asteroid to smithereens is lacking. .Loading screens. Personally, an automatic red flag. There's one of these babies (not too long, but still) every time you move between areas. .Soundtrack. The best part of the game. It's chill and pleasant. .Graphics. The space theme is well done with metal structures and glowing bits. It's pretty, but I prefer funtional any day. .Bottom line. I can't with a good conscience recommend this game--and especially not for 15.99. It feels more like an alpha than the finished product.
Great game. I love it such a great concept. A must buy 2024 game.
Fun game to play.
===Our Nation's Miner, A short review=== =Pros= 1. Great writing, and an enjoyable story. However short it is. This is also true of the game's tie in ARG, Entropy. 2. The aesthetic of the game is absolutely stunning, and graphically it certainly plays well overall. 3. The core gmaeplay is wonderful, very fun, and well polished. 4. Mysterious and intriguing. The game ends in a way that leaves me with many questions, and looking forward to whatever comes next. =Cons= 1. Relatively short, though it fits the story. There's currently two routes to play through (four if you count the "betrayal" routes). The two I have played took about 30~ minutes each. 2. Little level variety, but the style of gameplay fit as such that I don't believe it effected gameplay too much. Each level quite honestly felt like it was the same map, but because of how active the gameplay can be it was hardly noticeable. 3. There was little variation to enemy ships, outside of their look. The core AI (to me) felt like it was still the same, and it was very simple to arguably exploit it's simplicity. They seem to all just target you, and move towards you if it is necessary. This is very exploitable as you can essentially herd them around, and run circles around them to keep them grouped together. Because you continue moving around them, all of their shots will miss. This makes the game relatively simple if you find this strategy. =Suggestions= There is no customization to your ship, or abilities. This is definitely not necessarily a bad thing. However, the addition of something like this could greatly overhaul how the game is played, in some cases. An endless wave mode. Each "arena" has three waves to it, and the arenas tend to be fairly short to complete because of that. An endless mode could add a lot of fun and competition to the game. Challenging friends to beat their high scores. (This is an arcade machine, after all) =Conlusion= Despite it's flaws Our Nation's Miner is certainly a fun game, and one I would strongly recommend. Especially at it's price point. For $6, outside of a sale I find it hard to get a better experience from a game. It is wonderful that a single developer has been able to achieve so much. I have currently put three hours into the game, and I can see myself putting in more than that over time. Especially as the game grows and evolves over time, as is stated in the description.
I have played ONM for roughly 2 hours, and while the original game was fairly decent and pretty fun, the new overhaul is something else. First off, the presentation of the game - as shown in the images and trailers - remains phenomenal throughout the entirety of the experience. The graphics never disappoint and the Sci-Fi theme is very eminent throughout the game. The modelling of each object, enemy and generally everything is Top-Notch and very detailed (even if minimally used.) The music fits perfectly with the theme as well: a Techno-Synth like instrumental use works very well. Now for the real Meat of the game... the story. The game is meant to tie in with an existing ARG (Alternate Reality Game, essentially a huge puzzle.) called "Entropy" and the very characters exist in the game. I won't spoil anything but I hope players see that this new overhaul is about creating a complex and intricate story for members of ARG communities and Gamers alike. The game is short, but there are multiple endings that can be achieved each having their own affect on the story. What the game also lacks in longevity it makes up for with the fact that the description doesn't lie: This IS an ever evolving game: As of writing this the new "Mutation 1" update just released. In conclusion the game is a pretty, entropic (I'm funny right) experience and I encourage players to take interest in the story and participate in the ARG and decoding this masterpiece of a story. The full enjoyment of this game comes from being a part of the ARG and I hope that players will read up on it.
Well, this game is quite interesting. It has a lot of potential. The graphics are amazing. You can tell that there was some time taken to make the game look good. However, I am not as impressed with the controls of the game. You can only move by using the "W" key and to turn, you have to use your mouse. Hopefully it is given more content and improved controls.
