I really enjoyed what I've played so far. Its pretty simple to start but after a while the hack and slash combat gets very fun. The combat is smooth and plays very well and its not too easy but not too hard that newcommers would have a hard time The story is great too which is not typical of most of the vr games I've played, and the music is incredible and makes the game feel very exciting.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/G9AF0s1fS3g While I am giving this a positive recommendation on Steam, I'm not saying this is a good game at all. I really don't like Steam's up and down only system, especially for a flawed game like this. Consider this a buy on deep, deep sale only recommendation. Although, I do think overall I had more fun than frustration during my time with this game, the truth of the matter is that my first impression was that this game is horrible. That is because the combat mechanic, the main focus of the game, is absolutely terrible. There's no getting around that one. The combat is too simple and basic. You can just flail away aimlessly and there really is no strategy or depth involved. The bad news doesn't end there for this game. It's also a bit buggy and lacks overall polish. This feels like an Early Access game. So why am I still voting yes on Steam's recommendation system? As mentioned, overall, I had more fun than not. There's a very well crafted world here filled with very immersive backdrops that can only be accomplished in VR. The story is also not bad at all. I know it's super cheesy, but I enjoyed it. This game feels like Transformers and Power Rangers had a love child, and that child is Orion13. As the store description says, you are escaping a dystopian robot society. You take harrowing jumps atop skyscrapers, traverse catwalks, dodge lasers, navigate minefields (this one is a stretch because the minefield is dumb), and steal a spaceship to find your way home. It does feel like you're on this epic adventure. The game is running on the Unreal Engine and while the graphics and sounds aren't great, the art style overall is interesting if nothing else. The VOs are much better than I expected. The cinematic cut scenes are better than most of the stuff you find in VR (3d person view). You have full locomotion as well as smooth or snap turning available. I enjoyed the journey, even if the core gameplay wasn't good at all. The puzzles also were a bit too simple. Even using stuff like a homing missile, which sounds like it should be fun, just wasn't. The inventory system was bad. Using the scanner seemed pointless. It was way too easy to hit the main menu button by accident (and lose progress). I definitely recommend playing this game on hard difficulty. Easy is just too easy (there is no normal). You have generous checkpoints ... as long as you don't hit that main menu button by accident. The game took me about 2.5 hours to complete. Since the combat was bad, I was not interested in trying the arena mode. [b]Rate 5.5/10. Buy on deep, deep sale only because it does feel like an Early Access game. There is no way to use weapons in your left hand as far as I can tell. Combat is also a little 'floaty' i.e weapons just sorta phase through enemies instead of colliding like most melee-focused VR games. Can't really fault it for $4 but I'm left-handed so I'm unable to play the game properly. That said, the aesthetic was pretty cool and there are killable passive NPCs which you almost never see in VR games. Voice acting was a bit funny but I suppose it holds a certain charm.
I'm playing on an Oculus Quest 2 with a GTX1060. The stellar opening (credits with story background) really had my hopes high, but then the cut scenes started, and the actual game play... they just lack the same polish. Controls seem clunky, and this doesn't feel optimized for Touch controllers (the sword and ranged attacks stick out at weird angles, like a lot of Vive games ported to the Oculus). Glitching through the floor to your death is not uncommon, and then you reload only to immediately die the same way. Combat is a lot of thrashing, and be ready to use your sword, special abilities, and inventory items all at the same time.
