Let me start this by saying, I am an experienced IWBTG (I wanna be the guy) player. I can "see" where the game "wanted' to be like the game, but it feels too heavy and just does not feel good in any way. Character movement is too slow, grabbing corners is inconsistent and you let go apparently after a second. It was too tedious, even for my standards. Needs a LOT of work in regards of gameplay and design. There must have not been much, if any, play-testing in a lot of these areas. Also, those tiny hallways you have to somehow manage to get into, are incredibly broken. Fix this immediately. A hallway should not be the games biggest obstacle. Getting through the first one was annoying, but the one with the gear directly underneath, that was hell. Terrible so far, but who knows, maybe it could get better. 4/10
ggood game!
In this game you play as Robbie Rotten going through a post apocalyptic industrial dreamscape(?). I wanted to like it, as a big fan of IWBTG and it's many clones. But really poor controls, and a very unpolished/unfinished game surrounding them, imma say give it a pass. Some levels are legit fair and difficult, but for the majority of the game you'll be scratching you're head wondering if why you died was your fault or the game's. As you get further into it, especially near the end(?), you'll notice it becoming more and more unfinished. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1004811457514920725/405DFB3FD373C500E318B4FE795F972B40188D92/ Take this level for example, where you hop through portals mindlessly narrowing down your options until you find a way out. I noticed there were no hazards to look out for so your decisions were unpunished. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1004811457514920864/BC1D4483548C5E787ECF15379B5794377FC83B17/ About halfway through this missing texture appeared at the bottom of the screen, which I can only assume was intended to be something to watch out for. which would have made the level require me to be more mindful of which portals I was taking. And here's the reason why I put a question mark after end: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1004811457514920998/0113F04664FBD1929A29D2962E1278F81D6B14A8/ https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1004811457514921096/16F81FDCF0BE171ED2439EE7FAC0D731EA6116FB/ The level's named Boss1 so I can only assume there's more game left here somewhere, but all I was left with was a single platform floating over a literal endless void. No way to proceed as far as I could tell. So until the game (if it ever) gets to a point of being beatable (with much less frustrating controls) I can't recommend.
Oneironaut (from latin meaning "dream traveller") is one of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of the entire body of video games. This one is a very generically themed "difficult" "precision" platformer along the lines of "Super Meat Boy" and "I Wanna Be The Guy", only nowhere near as good. While the controls can be customised, the visuals are clearly phoned in, or something. There's no real excuse for just how bad they are. Resolution is locked, at least, using the different resolution options from the Unity launcher makes no discernable difference to the poor quality visuals. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. The pixel "art" here is particularly lazy as not all of the visuals are pixel, the spikes, for example, are 2D sprites/vector images that do map to the locked resolution of the game. So... lazy... or not sure what art style they wanted to use, only that they were sure they wanted the game to look bad? These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises.
Nice game its need to be speedrun
