On the Q.T.

[h1]The life of an idol. XD[/h1] [h2]Introduction[/h2] [i]On the Q.T.[/i] is an otome visual novel developed and published by dramatic create. It is from the original mobile port but is now available on Steam as a PC version. You take on the role of Ema (whose name can be changed), a member of an eight-member female group, Lu-ce. Although Lu-ce is well-known for its synchronized dancing, Ema would rather sing solo. It doesn't help that Ema has a reputation for being ice cold towards the public. However, after Ema meets Un:Finish, a popular male idol group, her life takes a drastic turn. Will she find romance as she gets to know certain members of the group? Only time will tell... With the gameplay, it consists of numerous choices. The first choice determines which one of three romance options Ema can pursue: Hibiki (the singer of Un:Finish), Keima (the most popular member who can appeal to the crowd), or Akira (the most talented dancer of Un:Finish). Once Ema is on a route, the following choices determine how well received her responses are among the love interest or certain notable NPCs, such as Nana (Ema's friend in Lu-ce who's from the same idol agency). Regardless of the choices made, though, Ema will always end up having a happily ever after with her partner. However, you have to go through each route three times (at least) if you want to unlock all of the picture illustrations (a.k.a. CGs). At the time of this review, no Steam achievements or trading cards are present, and the game won't count towards a user's global total until it's out of "Steam is learning about this game". [h2]Review[/h2] I enjoy visual novels a lot, regardless of how new or old they are. Even though [i]On the Q.T.[/i] is an older visual novel which was once available on mobile devices, I was saddened when I learned that it was removed. However, this fun visual novel is now available on Steam, and thanks to the wonderful people over at dramatic create, I had the chance to play and review this game for the first time. ^^ First, I enjoyed the story and characters a lot. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the idol industry (I've heard lots of negative stories about it to completely turn me away from it :o), [i]On the Q.T.[/i] doesn't hold back on its difficulties, which is narrated on the guys' routes. As the main character, Ema can seem unlikable, but I found myself empathizing with her. She's trying her best with Lu-ce, despite that she'd rather sing by herself. Because she's so focused on that goal, she gives off a cold attitude towards others, which ends up being misunderstood. Despite Ema's low popularity among the group, she still has fans. As for the guys, I had varying degrees of likability toawrds them. I went for Hibiki first, and even though he's initially rude towards Ema, calling her out because she doesn't sing with her whole heart, he quickly learns why Ema has to hold back. She isn't allowed to stand out within the group (especially, due to her low popularity), and she gets punished when she tries to stand up for herself. (Well, I can relate to that. :o) Anyway, I quickly ended up liking Hibiki, as I saw his softer side and his determination to help Ema become a singer. Then there's Keima. Oh boy. Despite that he's the most popular member and he seems likable, he turns unpleasant when he learns that Ema isn't one of his fans. If Ema goes on his route, she and Keima have this cat-and-dog fight, which is a bit emotionally exhausting to witness. lol However, they end up understanding each other better as they work together, and Keima's route is the only one where it's stated directly that they kiss. ^^ As for Akira, I saved his route for last, and I'm happy that I did. Akira is the quietest and most standoffish out of the three, but there are very valid reasons behind it. He is the most difficult for Ema to get to know, but once he lets his walls down, be prepared for a bit of an emotional roller coaster. I ended up crying a bit towards the end of his route due to a certain event, but thankfully, they end up together as well. Briefly touching on this, Minoru is the other member of Un:Finish. Unfortunately, he isn't a romance option, so he serves more as an important NPC. I would have liked for him to have been an option as well, but I'm happy with who's available. ^^ On the writing, the pacing is good. I noticed occasional typos in the English translation, but they don't distract the reader from enjoying the overall story and the various romance routes. With the gameplay, I noticed immediately that the game opens up in portrait (a.k.a. mobile) resolution. To be fair, this is warned on the Steam store page, but I would have liked for the game to have been optimized for PC. However, unlike the original version, this PC version has no micro-transactions, which makes sense since it's a commercial game, as opposed to the original mobile version. Thus, you can progress with the story without any paywall obstacles. With the routes, all of them have good endings, regardless of the choices you make. (The choices only change the flavor text a bit.) Although I'd usually find this to be a negative, I'm glad that there are no bad endings. [i]On the Q.T.[/i] is one of those visual novels in which you can enjoy the story and routes without having to brace yourself for heartbreak. As for the art, I liked looking at both the sprites and backgrounds, which are drawn and colored well. The sprites have the usual anime style that is typical in Japanese VNs. I only wish that more actual CGs had been present since the majority of picture illustrations are bonus art. Most of them have this lively, upbeat tone that is reflective of idol music. However, there are a few that have the more everyday theme to the comedical one. Especially, I enjoyed listening to the one female vocal track, which is supposed to be Ema singing. ^^ I wish that there had been Japanese voice acting, but I believe that the original mobile port didn't have any, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise. [h2]Conclusion[/h2] Would I recommend [i]On the Q.T.[/i]? If you're looking for a hot otome visual novel in which you can pursue idols and cope with their various drama and/or you're a fan of Japanese VNs (especially, those by dramatic create), then it's worth checking out. Granted, it's on the short side, even after I completed all of the routes and obtained all of the picture illustrations. To be fair, though, I used the skip function to replay routes, so it took me around 7 hours to 100% complete the game. You may want to wait for a sale since neither Japanese voice nor Steam achievements are present. Still, it's worth taking a look, and I found myself immersed in the romance and drama (and this is despite that I'm not an idol fan lol). Finally, I'd like to give a major thank you to dramatic create for the review key. Та самая игра из прошлого, которую я играла бесплатно (но тогда варианты платные были). И вот я купила её. Стоило ли это того? Для меня — да. Для кого-то будет скучно, и на самом деле просят слишком большую сумму, столько эта игра не стоит. Но я так хотела поностальгировать, что всё же решила её купить и сыграть (на телефоне давно игра где-то затерялась). Минус только в том, что нет одной ветки с персонажем (или я не разобралась и не открыла её). И карты не поняла, как открыть остальные, вроде перепрошла с одним рутом, но на другую концовку не выхожу. Очень много вопросов, но мало ответов.

I didn't think I'd enjoy each route as much as I did, none of them were quite what I was expecting. I really liked playing this game and each of the routes and endings. I'd recommend On The Q.T. to anyone who likes short and quirky romance stories. Each of them has an interesting personality beyond what they display at first and it was cool to see what all the characters' lives are like as being idols.

I really love this game — the settings, the story, the characters... When the company removed all of their games from Android, I felt truly sad because I adore their games. When they announced that they were going to release it on Steam, I was so happy! As soon as it came out, I bought it as quickly as I could (along with Secret Crush), and since I’ve been able to play it, I haven’t done anything else. Now I just want them to release all of My Lovey and Time to Love. I truly love this company’s games — keep it up! I’m eagerly waiting and hoping they’ll release the other games on Steam too. I highly recommend this game, and not just the game itself, but the company as well. Their stories are beautiful, and I’ve even cried at some of the endings. I hope that other visual novel lovers will fall in love with and support this company the way I do. My rating is 100/10. Thank you so much, Dramatic Create.
