Really fun and nice game! Great controls, graphics and music. truly just a really well made and good game. definitely a game with checking out.
On Rusty Trails is a tightly designed indie platforming experience that combines mechanical ingenuity, striking visual identity, and understated thematic depth into a compact but memorable journey. Developed and published by Black Pants Studio, the game places players in control of Elvis, a small robot whose existence becomes precarious when the environment itself turns hostile. What initially appears to be a straightforward platformer gradually reveals itself as a carefully layered experience where movement, perception, and adaptation are inseparably linked. The defining feature of On Rusty Trails is its central transformation mechanic, which allows Elvis to switch between two different states using a special suit. Each form changes how the world reacts to him: platforms that are safe in one form may be deadly in the other, hazards may disappear or suddenly become lethal, and paths can open or close depending on the chosen state. This mechanic is not confined to isolated puzzles but is woven into nearly every jump and movement sequence, forcing players to constantly assess their surroundings and react in real time. The result is platforming that feels intellectually engaging as well as mechanically demanding, where success depends as much on awareness and timing as on reflexes. Level design plays a crucial role in sustaining this tension. Stages are structured as compact obstacle courses that escalate in complexity, often requiring rapid state-switching while navigating tight spaces and deadly traps. Rain that corrodes metal, color-coded hazards, and shifting terrain ensure that no single strategy remains effective for long. The challenge is sharp but fair, supported by responsive controls and well-placed checkpoints that encourage experimentation rather than punishment. Each failure becomes a lesson in timing or positioning, reinforcing the sense of mastery as players progress. Visually, On Rusty Trails stands out through its bold, illustrated art style. The environments are rich with personality, blending industrial decay with surreal color contrasts that mirror the game’s mechanical duality. Urban ruins, factories, and hostile landscapes feel alive despite the absence of traditional storytelling, communicating a sense of societal division and environmental danger through visual cues alone. The world reacts differently to Elvis depending on his form, subtly reinforcing the game’s underlying themes of identity, belonging, and adaptation without relying on explicit exposition. Narrative elements are deliberately restrained, allowing gameplay and atmosphere to carry the emotional weight. Elvis’s journey is framed less as a conventional story and more as an experience shaped by adversity and transformation. The lack of overt dialogue encourages players to interpret meaning from the environment itself, lending the game a contemplative quality beneath its fast-paced surface. This minimalist approach may leave some players wanting more direct storytelling, but for others it enhances immersion and invites personal interpretation. Sound design and music further strengthen the experience. The soundtrack leans toward moody, electronic compositions that complement the industrial aesthetic and heighten tension during demanding platforming sequences. Sound effects are crisp and functional, providing clear feedback during jumps, transformations, and hazards without overwhelming the player. Together, the audio and visuals create a cohesive atmosphere that supports both gameplay clarity and emotional tone. In terms of scope, On Rusty Trails is a relatively short experience, often completed in a single extended sitting. However, its compact length feels intentional, ensuring that mechanics remain fresh and pacing remains tight throughout. The game avoids unnecessary filler, focusing instead on delivering a concentrated sequence of challenges that steadily build on one another. This design choice makes it especially appealing to players who value precision-crafted experiences over sprawling runtimes. Ultimately, On Rusty Trails succeeds by fully committing to its core ideas. It is a platformer that demands attention, adaptability, and skill, while also offering a distinctive artistic and thematic identity. Its clever use of transformation mechanics elevates traditional platforming into something more thoughtful and expressive, and its confident restraint prevents it from overstaying its welcome. For fans of challenging indie platformers that emphasize smart design and visual storytelling, On Rusty Trails stands as a compact but impactful journey that lingers well beyond its final jump. Interesting and entertaining platformer with some elements that my cynic @$$ thoroughly enjoyed!
Challenging and fun. I enjoyed the mechanic of having to change form, it was something different and refreshing. It was also reliant purely on your skill. No luck or items required (well just for the checkpoints). Like with Celeste you don't get punished for dying because of the checkpoints. You quickly start over at the checkpoint and try again. There are plenty but you do have to unlock them. Apart from the unlock tokens there are no items to collect. As someone who Must Obtain All Collectibles it was kind of nice not to have that so I could just focus on the gameplay. I do wish the story/world was a bit more fleshed out and had a better conclusion though. Obviously the original goal is simple - get Elvis a new house - but it could have been a lot more poignant, the potential was there. I mean its a world so racist even wood and metal hates you.
可以尝试一下,感觉还行,但是卡关了
https://youtu.be/cCw9lKR_wpI Strong level design with a well delivered visual style setups a positive puzzle platformer experience that is undermined by input bugs on the controller.
