Wanted to point out some glaring issues with this game is that looking at the controls layout with a keyboard and controller will softlock you in that part of the menu. You have you kill the program on task manager to get out of this to restart. buttons can't be remapped to a mouse and keyboard buttons cannot be rebound. For a game at 50 CAD MSRP i expect basic keyboard and mouse support, but this game does not provide it. While the game is not terrible he story thus far is pretty generic and uninteresting with passable gameplay. So a mediocre game with a mediorce price point won't sell. On steep discount (> 60% off) the price point is okay if you just wanted a mindless action-JRPG meant for young kids, but be aware of the issues i pointed above with keyboard support. Another dumb thing is that the game resolution does not support beyond 1080p. And for those of you who have an 21:9 Monitor the game does not have utilrawide support. PS: The post game after makes me regret my purchase and i wish i never bothered to play this game. The ai companions are so badly programmed that they will opt to suicide into the post-game final bosses attacks. Not only was this infuriating, but the final 3 bosses are essentially copy and paste of one another with a different colour and the attacks become a bullet hell game with very little visual screen clarity making this a very unpleasant experience. For a game that had very little grind for the in-story gameplay the end game is a grinding nightmare for materials for slot in bonus stats gem crafting.
Hello Friends, Today I will review the game TRINITY TRIGGER. This is a game that is a ode to the Secret of Mana classic games. It features 3 player couch CO-OP, but only after beating 3 dungeons. Not sure why the developers made it this way, but in order to play couch CO-OP, players need to defeat 3 bosses in the early dungeons. There is no online CO-OP, but it might be possible with Steam Remote Play to play it with three people. I have not personally tested this so I cannot say if this method will work. Thank you. This game features a mini map, three characters, and a interesting story. The maps graphics are reminiscent of early SNES games. Do not expect a nostalgia trip with the game, but it is not bad as a action rpg that emulates the older games from that era. I personally found Sea of Stars more fun, and it also includes couch CO-OP. Both games have a similar feeling to those type of rpgs. If you really want to experience that type of rpg, Chrono Trigger is on steam. It is not the best version of the game, but it is very good. There are hidden paths and items you can find scattered around the world. I even wrote a guide to find the beast keys, which are required to unlock something on the map Lost World, which is all i say about it to keep this review spoiler free. There are also harder bosses and a true ending if you play past the credit ending. PROS: - A three player couch co-op rpg. - It emulates early SNES type rpgs. - Players can find different weapon types to equip to each character, if players can find them. - Many side quests to finish. - Hidden items and paths to find on maps. - Works on Windows 11 OS. - A controller is supported. I used a Zen Pro switch controller. CONS: - The DLC's force you to buy the MEGA POTION one is crap. Putting a potion behind a paywall is a crap move. As for the episode DLC's, if you like the game, there decent and add some backstory for the characters. The extra episodes and the DLC mega potion are the only ones worth it. - Some people complained about a graphical glitch of a black line. Although i did not personally experience it in this game, i saw the same bug in the game I AM SESUNA. - The price is expensive for the game, like all other ones nowadays. Buy it on sale if you can. If you want the extra episodes, get the deluxe edition, but be aware it does not have the mega potion permit dlc. Do I recommend this game? If you like classic rpg styled games, then yes. Do not liken it to a classic SNES game, as although it does really try to be one, it is it's own game. It does emulate the classic Secret of Mana game formula, but some things in the game are updated. The hidden items and paths are fun to find, and some of the later bosses in the game can be challenging, especially the true ending bosses. So yea, it is a decent rpg, but do not expect a classic game type like Chrono Trigger.
Requesting a refund. As others have reported there's a blurry line that I can not remove from the middle of the screen. it's incredibly distracting and really a problem that should have been fixed by the devs shortly after release. The gameplay itself seems pretty generic.
Pros: Adventure RPG to play in co-op, reminded me of Shining Tears. Contra: 3 Hours into the game to allow you to play co-op when you reach the third city. Makes sense since it's an "small" game with a short cast of playable characters, but it's rather anoying the 3 hours "tutorial".
This game is better than I expected, but it may only appeal to people who look back fondly on Secret of Mana. Trinity Trigger is an upgrade in gameplay compared to the SoM remake, but it's not a totally modern game. Dungeons and areas tend to be pretty small, but significantly larger than SoM. Combat is still stamina-based, but you can attack around 6 times before being out of stamina. That's compared to attacking once in SoM. The difficulty is also similar to SoM. Getting stun-locked for several hits is the most dangerous part. However, enemies can't be as easily stun-locked in Trinity Trigger, so it's better in that regard. The progression is similar: explore an open area, get to the next town, get through the next dungeon, get some new weapon or power, and repeat. Especially in the early game, this can feel repetitive, but the game throws some twists into this formula by the middle. The story is pretty simple, but not as simple as SoM. The music is by Hiroki Kikuta, who did SoM and other Mana games, including the recent Visions of Mana. I felt the soundtrack was pretty weak early in the game, but it gets much better; there are some great tracks.
Is This a Soulslike?
Stamina-based combat, a dodge roll (with iframes, I think), somewhat limited healing, dungeon crawling, bosses, moderately-paced combat. Is Secret of Mana a proto-Soulslike? By modernizing the combat slightly, Trinity Trigger comes so close to being a Soulslike that I can barely tell if it is or isn't one. It's not as difficult as most Soulslikes, and it's a lot more colorful. But there are some optional bosses that are very difficult, and you have to be constantly upgrading your weapons and Manatite to keep up with the enemies. Is this game much different from Sands of Aura or No Rest for the Wicked? I really don't know.
Caveats
Obnoxious final boss. The final boss highlights just how poor the companion AI is. They'll stubbornly walk into AOE damage pods, refusing to move out of the way, often killing themselves in at once. Strangely enough, the game is better solo anyway. Poorly balanced post game. There seems to be "another journey" with a fair number of quests after defeating the final boss. These almost all suck. It's the same enemies, doing the same attacks, doing 10 times as much damage. Your main character is now a
demi-god
, yet dies faster than ever.
Conclusion
I hesitate to say this game is "very good," but it's a real step up from Secret of Mana. It's good for what it is, but it might not offer the complexity that modern gamers expect. But I really like much of it. On sale, I felt it was worth it for the main game, not counting the annoying final boss and slog of a post game.
It is a fun game... But it gets increasingly frustrating, as your allies will just face tank every attack from the bosses and die. I'm not sure if I should recommend it or not. Maybe on sale.
一款掌机向JRPG,立绘跟玩法都还不错 缺点:无法接受掌机跟主机都有中文,唯独PC没有中文 AI队友很蠢,贴脸吃技能,尤其最后打两种神明时尤为显著
This game is delicious, I grow up playing J-RPG, but in my adulthood I had to stop. I became an truck driver and lost my private time, I work around 10-15 hours a day, too many days sleeping on the tin can. I can't start games like White Knight Chronicles nowadays, where you burn 1000's hours, this is like Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, just the basics where you can enjoy the old school element's of an good RPG, and pause and continue next week or next month when you have the time to, and don't feel the burnout of not progressing in the game, the sidequest, or the bazillion secrets in game. Bought the game on sale, and will buy the PS5 edition for collection purposes. Thank you devs for this experience. Run it, on my potato server PC. Very recommended.
trinity trigger is a game made just for me. the perfect 6/10 ds game released like 10 years too late, with a solid voice acting cast and the usual furyu charms. with that said, trinity trigger is a flawed game. on the technical plan, a lot of options are missing like v-sync, which plagues the game. it doesn't run *bad* but you are very limited in what you can do other than graphical presets and resolutions. this was made for the nintendo switch and the pc port feels somewhat of an afterthought. also flawed is the gameplay. it's relatively simple, weapons aren't complicated, and you can somewhat customize your equipment, there's a few gauges to spend, but the gameplay does not really evolve throughout the game. the influence is also obvious, and as much as i hate comparisons, yeah it's secret of mana. attacks you have to wait to recharge, ring menus, etc etc. it's not going to blow your mind, because it is relatively simple especially if you are looking for the next hidden action-RPG gem, but it's perfectly serviceable! just slot in whatever feels best and you're good to go. well at least when the AI partners arent busy killing themselves. the AI in this game is not great! i thought people were exaggerating but companions really arent great. you will chew through consumables but hey most everything is relatively affordable so... the dungeon crawling is also not incredible! puzzles are relatively simple, hidden things are usually easy to find, and hazards can get annoying. does not help that in terms of layouts dungeons don't really ever change from what you see early on in the game. couple that with the story's relatively simple beats, you are not in for your next rpg epic. it is however easy to pick up, play and get through to get the post-game ending is absolutely bonkers though so i did not do any of that. i rolled credits and left it at that. with all that said, i love this game a lot. the most perfect 6/10 game i can think of. some simple but enjoyable gameplay. a solid VA cast to back it up. a game tailored for me and nobody else. if all if this is enticing to you, pick it up on sale and bask in the glory of a solid mid-tier game with me. if it doesn't, this game is not for you, and neither are any of Furyu's game offerings!
