Good game, with interesting story, narration that is like a fairy tale and cool scandinavian folklore The screen is too dark by default so i recommend turnig the bright to max to be able to see all the interactive objects more easily Some puzzles are quite obtuse but the difficulty is all right
Beautiful game with amazing story, marvelous voice acting and incredible puzzles! By no means is this game for everyone - some might find art style disturbing and puzzles too hard to solve, but if you're in for the challenge and are not afraid for dark atmosphere games - then you must absolutely try out this game!
won this game in a giveaway on SteamGifts 6 years ago and my only regret is not trying out it much much earlier
Somber but cute game with pretty illustrated environments. Feels very much like a fairy-tale, including some of the puzzle-logic that I needed a guide to help me with.
Good
Needs some video options. I could only see vague black shapes on a charcoal background.
A Dark Fairytale Metroidvania That Knows Exactly What It Wants to Be

🇺🇸 English 👍 Recommended 🎮 Introduction Oknytt immediately stands out because of its atmosphere. It doesn’t rush to explain everything—instead, it drops you into a strange, fairy-tale-like world inspired by Nordic folklore and lets you absorb it gradually. The first impression is calm but eerie, almost like stepping into a hand-painted dark storybook. It’s clearly not aiming for fast-paced gameplay, but rather a slower, more thoughtful experience. 🔥 Gameplay At its core, this is a puzzle-driven metroidvania with light combat elements. The focus isn’t on action, but on exploration, environmental puzzles, and unlocking new paths with acquired abilities. Backtracking plays a big role, but the world is designed in a way that makes it feel natural rather than repetitive. Combat exists mostly as a secondary system. It functions more as an obstacle than a highlight. The real gameplay loop is about observing your surroundings and figuring out how the world connects. What makes Oknytt stand out is how much of its progression is tied to environmental storytelling. Many solutions rely on visual cues and subtle hints rather than explicit guidance. 🎨 Graphics & Audio The hand-drawn visual style is easily one of the game’s strongest aspects. Each area feels like a living illustration from a dark folklore tale, filled with detail and personality. The art direction does a great job of creating a consistent, melancholic tone throughout the entire experience. Animations are simple but fit perfectly with the style. Audio plays a subtle but important role. The soundtrack is minimal and atmospheric, often letting silence take over to enhance tension and mystery. ⚖️ Difficulty & Progression Difficulty comes more from observation and understanding than execution. The game doesn’t rely on fast reactions, but instead challenges you to interpret environments and solve puzzles at your own pace. Progress can feel slow at times, but it aligns well with the intended experience. New abilities steadily open up previously inaccessible areas, reinforcing the classic metroidvania loop of gradual map expansion. 🧩 Fun & Replayability The main appeal is its atmospheric exploration. It’s not designed for replayability in the traditional sense, but rather as a focused experience that leaves a lasting impression. Progression feels meaningful because each new area adds to your understanding of the world. Replay value comes more from appreciating the atmosphere again than from mechanical variation. ✅ Final Verdict Yes—if you enjoy slower, atmospheric games. Oknytt doesn’t try to compete with action-heavy metroidvanias. Instead, it focuses on mood, environmental storytelling, and deliberate exploration—and it executes that vision consistently well. ⭐ Recommended for fans of slow-paced metroidvanias, atmospheric indie games, Nordic folklore themes, and exploration-driven experiences.
