The Review Critic: Big Love, Bigger Flaws – "STALKER+FALLOUT (BUT NOT REALLY)" Edition Ah, indie games. The crown jewel of creativity, where developers pour their blood, sweat, and ramen noodles into making something unique. This game? It’s got that in spades—a little Stalker, a little Fallout, and a whole lot of passion. But passion alone doesn’t make a game fun, and oh boy, does this one stumble. Let’s dissect the disaster. Gameplay and AI: The enemy AI feels like it was ripped straight out of the Unreal Engine Test Demo. Enemies have exactly two modes: run at you and attack. That’s it. It’s like they took Left 4 Dead’s infected, lobotomized them, and then slapped them into this game. And hey, maybe that could work if they actually posed a threat. But no. They stop to attack while you keep moving, so they almost always miss. It’s less a battle for survival and more an awkward game of tag. The exception? The Abominable Snowman, who actually leaps and ground pounds, bringing a momentary flicker of excitement before the monotony returns. Combat: Good news: there are guns. Bad news: they feel like they were designed for a Looney Tunes skit. The delay between pulling the trigger and the gun firing is so long you could make a sandwich in the meantime. And the bullet speed? Slower than my enthusiasm for this review. Combat is supposed to be the heart of a game like this, but here it’s like trying to perform heart surgery with a spork. Even if the AI were better, the gunplay would still make it a slog. World Design: The world is clearly crafted with love, but then you—the player—are dropped into it as a 9-foot-tall giant. Seriously, your character towers over everything, making you feel more like a kaiju than a survivor. Doors, assets, enemies—nothing scales properly to your size, and it’s impossible to feel immersed when you’re smashing your head against every doorway. The Verdict: This game is a labor of love, and I want to love it back. But right now, it’s just not fun. The AI is braindead, the combat is clunky, and the scaling issues make it feel like you’re stomping through a dollhouse. I’ll keep an eye on it and happily revisit this review if things improve, but as it stands, this is a hard pass. If you’ve enjoyed this brutally honest take, hit that thumbs-up button and follow The Review Critic for more painfully accurate dissections of gaming’s hits and misses. Because sometimes the truth hurts—and sometimes it’s just funny. The Review Critic, signing off to find an indie gem that doesn’t feel like a fever dream.
As someone who enjoys playing low budget niche games, I simply don't recommend this at the moment. It is far too janky with really bad performance drops making it unplayable and not worth the price. Also, you have to create an account, which I should have expected with MMO in the list. Maybe check back in a year or so.
Been following the game since October and was lucky enough to take part in one of the playtests. Now that I’ve bought the game, I’m impressed by the amount of work the devs have done over these two months—thumbs up, great job! There are still many things to fix, but I understand it’s in early access. P.S. I love the map size! If you’re planning to expand it further in future updates, that’s going to be super cool. P.P.S. Please fix the balance between the number of mobs and the amount of ammo you can find in the boxes on the map. I felt lack of them, and mobs were too aggressive (felt impossible to get rid of them). Keep it up—you’re doing a fantastic job for a small studio!
The game has a very addictive gameplay. I liked the idea of the game, the gameplay, atmosphere and dynamic, but the game has is very small online. We need an influx of new players. Overall, it's a very good game in the survival genre.
Tips for beginners: ✔ Don't breathe through your mouth - it saves moisture. ✔ Don't cry - tears are a luxury. ✔ Don't drink mutant blood - you're probably not going to like it, and the mutants themselves won't be too happy about it. ✔ If you see water - run. It's either a trap or a hallucination from dehydration.
An excellent shooter in the survival genre, the game has just been released, there are problems, but I think soon the developers will fix everything
I am refunding this I cannot play it to make an account it needs your email, but tells me my email is invalid, now just to check I haven't gone crazy I even copy pasted my email address from the bottom of the submit a refund page, you know the email address Steam uses all the time to contact me,
Its very well made and a suprisingly enjoyable play, despite only currently being in its stage of very early access. The Open World is vast and rich with exploration and challenges to meet you head on. The game does need a lot more polish as I would say some of the current problems Ive dealt with have been the rather lack luster and useless map, which leads to a lot of trips where youll lose everything, not being able to locate an entrance back to the safezone. Some of the combat and quests need better difficulty balancing. Additionally while I will acknowledge Im running this on a Steam Deck which obviously has heavy limits compared to an actual PC, There are moments with severe fps drops, momentary freezing, or occasionally falling throught the world. I personally give this game & developers a lot of kudos for doing something different and making a Wasteland themed Open World as these genres are very few and usually not quite up to the level of what Dustland has going for it. Its a game with high potential and I dearly, sincerely hope to see it grow and shine in the years to come.
