Warning! If you buy this game to play couch co-op, know that it's full of bugs and completely broken. The second player will teleport constantly off screen, be locked into place, won't be able to perform certain actions, or lose all health for no reason. The single player experience works fine as far as I got but I was discouraged to continue as I bought this to play with a friend.
Visuals and sound are on point. Everything relating to gameplay, however, is completely sloppy. A dozen spazzing enemies will be layered on top of each other which often makes parrying a crapshoot. Enemies can instantly transition from hitstun to being right in the middle of a deadly attack. Doing an attack yourself might make you face backward for some reason. You may find yourself grabbing open air because, let alone the player, the game's code can't even make sense of the chaos with enemies and yourself shifting and teleporting without warning. Most of the special inputs I could do consistently, but weirdly the simple Red Red Green double punch thing was a 50/50. Nothing feels like it moves as it should. Nothing seems to be getting hit quite like it should. It's like you're fighting against nonstop laggy rollback with 50 dudes at once. Other than the sax on stage 3, I can't describe any aspect of this game as smooth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIs1cIRVkW0
Nice pixel graphics and good soundtrack, but the controls feel off. Character is so floaty. Minor glitches in gameplay, but menus feel unintuitive and glitchy, especially in the dojo. Repeating the levels over and over to get the different endings is pretty tedious.
Theres a ton of effort put into this and I want to love it but the controls just feel too loose to me to bother putting in the time for higher difficulty
I like this game. I really, really like it. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if it isn't hard. Thankfully it does it a fun way that while frustrating at times, still makes you want to learn to be better and to get to the end. I've mostly played the story mode, which does allow you change the difficulty, but to those who really want to challenge themselves there's the Arcade mode which - from what I've learnt - is supposed to be the HARD-mode. But I must stress, this genuinely hard. So be aware of this. Game Play - the game play mechanics in this game are superb in my opinion - for a game of this genre, which is platforming beat'em up with a lot (and I do mean a lot) of depth. I've yet to come across game of this type which would have had more than half of the depth this game has in terms of game play, but I'd be delighted if someone could point out some for me if they happen to read this review. The fighting in this game is unbelievably satisfying. Parrying, which seems to be the most important mechanic in this game, allows you to deliver some really wonderfully visceral take-downs against your enemies and some of the weapons - the sword especially - can make your opposition to fall into pieces in rather creative ways. But worry not, if you happen to be one of those queasy types, you can turn off the blood if you so wish. You have variety of normal and special moves in this game, and I highly recommend you go into the story mode and use the dojo to familiarize yourself with them before venturing forward. Music - oh the music. In addition to the graphics, this game really hits down hard when it comes to people like me who were born in the early '80s and had the opportunity to put hours upon hours into playing our Amiga 500 games. Yes, while similar to what we used to hear in the time period where Amiga reigned supreme, the music in this game has its clearly modern spin on it - which, again, is question of taste on whether or not you will like it. I did, so I give my thumbs up for it! Sound & Voice acting - the sounds in this game are straight from the Amiga era and I love it! The dialogues in this game are at par with your '80s action flicks from Hollywood, with wonderfully cheesy voice acting - especially the bosses. I love how snooty and almost British the first ninja-boss you meet sounds like - I really had a laughing out loud moment there. Story - Not much to say here, as I've yet to complete the game (as of writing this piece), but from what I've seen so far, the story does seem to be your typical revenge plot straight from the '80s Hollywood - along with the cheesy one-liners and everything. Even the cut-scenes are somewhat reminiscent to what you used to see in top-tier Amiga games during the platform's golden era of early '90s. All in all, I heartily recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a challenging platforming beat'em up - they don't get much better than this. And to anyone reading this, if you buy this game, please leave a review for it - this game needs more publicity. The only reason I happened to discover this game was because YouTube algorithm decided to randomly put a video about this game into my recommendations list - and this was well over a year after the game was released!
I expected to see beat`em up/platform game, instead I got fighting/platform game. pros: - complex battle system; - secrets; - visuals; - multiple endings/characters. cons: - no learning progression in the game - you need to punch bag in the dojo to learn/train yourself to play the game as everything unlocked from the start; - game menu is too complex. It was like that: I selected arcade mode as I thought there would be less story (don't want to train in dojo to gain strength), soon I found that is too difficult and various spikes one-shot you, it use max difficulty setting. Then I selected story mode - the game started in max difficulty for me and I also struggled a lot, but then I tried to select chapter 1 I found difficulty selection (I don't think I see that screen before). After that I was able to beat the game. I see devs put their soul in the game and it can be a great one. Though progression system is not here, so the game throws everything at you. You can't even put this progression here as the game ends too fast, it's very short. So I don't see any solutions, but maybe this review can be useful for building future games.
Pretty but I wish the controls and gameplay were more fluid.
