I'm sadly disappointed on this game, as much as I wanted to like this. I love weird, I love difficult games, and I actually rather enjoyed the music. And before it gets said, yes.. I did grow up with the older games like Castlevania, loved Super Meatboy, beat N+, Dark Souls was a blast, etc But this game... no save function. 3 Lives that are easier to lose then pocket money on a candy machine, controls that give you carpal tunnel, sloppy mixed gameplay shifts that feel very messy and unbalanced, etc just make it a hell to play. And it pains me to make a claim for a refund, because I really wanted to like this game, and I'm sure under all that mess there's something to love. But unlike old classic hardcore games, it just feels clunky. And most of my deaths felt unfair, trial and error, or even unexplained. Even when I figured out the shoot 'em up sections... I died right as I had my charge full. From reading through, the game developer seems to love that section merely for the music alone... please, get play testers, and listen to their advice. In fact, seeing the theme and everything, I wouldn't mind playtesting for future games myself to help suggest things that could clean up the mess. To anyone wanting to venture forward, goodluck. I hope this game hits the right frequency with you.
A joyously baffling new micro-epic from from Steam's foremost unorthodox Christian mystic, Rail Slave! Forgotten pockets of congealed holy radiance vibrate with the moans of despairing sentients until the frequency exceeds holding capacity; with an explosion as remarkable for its violence as for its solemnity, chunks of molten divinity erupt into the space-time of a stricken world, shattering rapidly into ever smaller globules of wobbling energy until they have sublimated -- and the phantasmal truth of OHR is woven throughout the morphic field of the planet. Time is of the essence; the bond is fragile. The particulates cannot maintain their all-loving embrace for long, and are in fact dissolving into nothingness at a demonic rate! The Kabalistic CAD engages. An unseen printer plies its stylus to the evaporating hybrid canvas, sketching in the air above a stand of lofty pines two massive 3D wireframes in the shape of TDK D-C60s. Waves of crawling pixels wash over the frames, filling in with substance, leaving in their wake plastic harder than any earthly steel. One cyclopean tape is spotted like a giraffe in homage to the zoological features of the biogynoid pirate-angel that soon coalesces upon its broad deck; for this is a hovership, and from it, the newborn being will conduct her crusade to save the wretched of this world. The other is gleaming black -- a mobile angelic base operated by a gaseous intelligence, and containing, in the form of (mortally proportioned) musicassettes, all the sonorous souls that the husks of this miserable plane cried so piteously for. In paradoxical ode to the rules of this reality in which the Angel must act, the soul repository is fashioned after a mortal place of capitalistic exchange: A MUSIC STORE. Yes, you are the martial Angel, the savior who must ply her righteous Tang-Soo-Do to the foreheads of the Suits -- husks who delight in the false, dark pleasures of their huskhood, who are irrevocably lost -- and wring from them the coinage that you need to purchase sweet-sounding spirits for Those Who Yearn! You must take care to avoid touching the Suits with aught than your blessed cowgirl boots; with any other contact they will draw you through the dimensionally twisted weave of their coats and into an abstracted reality of corporate ladder-climbing, where your only hope of survival is to harness the smoldering wads of rage that their write-ups and passive-aggressive stickynotes have electrotransubstantiated into, storing the raw energy of these projectiles, and flinging it back in the form of unconditional workplace camaraderie. Be doubly warned! It is hellishly difficult to leave this sub-reality unscathed! Ritually slaughter your limited supply of cattle to infuse your piebald curves with the will to fight on! Buy more OHR to bolster the dwindling support field! Grind your dainty foot into the snarling face of sclerotic corporatism! And above all . . . GIVE THE GIFT OF MUSIC!! (Contemplatively scored esorterica with buttery smooth gameplay of the outre variety! Tidy, Castlevania I-like length encourages repeat plays in which the bizarre mechanics may be mastered! Induces spasmodic fits of imaginative extrapolation! Inevitably leaves you feeling that the world needs more small, frenetically strange games, fewer tepid marathons! [I identify strongly with the middle-aged techno fan collapsed outiside the nightclub.])
Another great game from railslavegames. The artstyle and story is bizarre as usual. The game is a mix between some genres. You start flying as a cassette around a world and you have to drop five different cassettes to the right persons. If you find one you will get a message and the person disappear. On the way to them you have to do some platforming and fight enemies. If you got hit by an enemie you get teleported into a bullet hell minigame where you have to catch the bullets with a net to escape from there. I can't tell much about the story because I'm not sure about what it's actually about. All I can say that it's somehow connected to the previous railslavegames.
Familiar Rail Slave elements (resource management, mix of genres, 80s-style die and try again) but this time it's in a fixed world that you'll have to spend some time exploring before you're ready to try and do "winning runs". This seems to be by design - your gameplay time will be split up between the exploration phase (which isn't just trying stuff out but also learning where each of the colored tapes are!) and then the runs which can be a bit more frustrating to die. The gameplay is definitely the sort that seems really hard and slowly gets easier; my main complaint while playing was that the shmup combat seemed disproportionately hard to the hand-to-hand combat (with the former being what you get launched into for failing the latter) but over time I got good enough to find it fun too. Like most rail slave stories there are some very interesting ideas but not that much in the way of resolution. Still a pretty interesting game. Price might seem a little high, this is a pseudo-vignette, but dev didn't have control over that so. I guess my favorite part was meeting each person for the first time, sadly besides talking to them initially and giving them the tape there's not much else to them. The world of the game is very intriguing but because of that you won't really get too much of a feel for it, or unlock new places. But a small world to master is very 80s-gameplay-style, so that's how the game wanted to be. My favorite RSG are Uriel's Chasm and Selfie. I guess I like FMV. So while this wasn't in my favorites of the dev, that's just my personal taste, still an interesting work and it and the rest of the dev's games really deserve some analysis.
https://youtu.be/txNduX6UHHI An incredible hard to process game from narrative to mechanics. Whatever the creator's intent is, the game struggles to deliver it.
Описание:
Психоделический треш который вобрал в себя кучу жанров от платформера до скролл шутера. Понять что происходит на экране трудно. Как и чего делать тоже. Зато одно понимается сразу - точно не стоит играть в эту игру. Это что-то на уровне Uriel Chasm... yup! its another chapter of Barry in the feverland! at first - some info i found: Ohr means "Light" in Hebrew (אור) or "Divine influence" and used in Kabalistic tradition as concept in which light is used as a way of describing divine attributes. Also it means "ear" or "audio" in German. and its not an accident. in this 198x nes-styled game u'r playing as Princess (or Angel), traveling thru the strange world, enters destroyed post-apocalypse cities and tunnels in seraching of soul frequencies (!) so then u can bring 'em back to bereaved nps's after what they can Sing a Song and Praise [strike]the Sun[/strike] You! i don't finish the game yet 'couse its hardcore style as any of Dylan's game! trying and trying, searching new ways and stuff, shopping, failing again and again 'till u succeed.. as in real life! game is filled with melancholy, has sad atmosphere piano score by developer himself and noises from experimental musician F. Tyler, has a lots of mysticism and esoteric influences. i guess it reflects the mind of its creator and has deep thought base despite low budget production. so I recommend to try this psychic journey to the depths of inner mind and outer divine presence. cheers and thx to developer for creating such psychdelic stuff. p.s.:
cows is also present.
um.. wow this game is bizarre! I have no idea what's going on . i have no idea what my goal is. and i love it. i'll figure this enigma out soon enough.. very very interesting x3 if you liek games that will liekly end up on Vinesauce"s "getting wierd with it" then this game is for you .
אור is hard to pin a genre down on it, just like pretty much every other game made by Railslave. At a first look it might seem a bit bizarre, you're thrust right into the game with small, yet direct instructions and then left to your own devices to explore. A mix of platforming, bullet hell and a little bit of beat em up mechanics are there to get you through the game. The music is nice and well made (similar style to other railslave stuff, so give those a listen to get an idea of the music here). I think it's got a good balance of length/explanation, as it takes a while to figure out all the nuances in the game and difficulty to keep you interested but without it feeling tedious. It's harsh in many aspects, but with a little getting used to things you'll be fine :) I'd go as far as to say the replays are needed to pick up parts of the story that you might not understand at first. Give it a go if you like Railslave stuff, if you're still uncertain and want an idea of what the gameplay is like check out some of the other games made by him, they're just as bizarre :p though game play mechanics aren't always the same. P.s. The giraffe from Uriels Chasm is back :D
This games draw inspiration from the worst aspect of NES games and delivers in a mess that doesn't make any sense in terms of narrative and gameplay. Just don't.
