About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Really cool game for getting started into making music. It inspired me to look into using other DAW platforms. This game is a great start for someone interested in looking into making music digitally, even if you have zero music experience. I'd highly suggest this to youth who have an interest. I could see myself presenting this program as an educator to a music class, or, just having fun seeing what I can make at home. I am so excited to see this game add more instrument types in the future!
Offbeat has truly done what you never knew you wanted. If you're a creative that loses inspiration and drive, Offbeat cures that. It makes you want to pick it up and just have fun making music. I can't wait to see this game evolve.
very fun for anyone into music production. It really sparks the creativity, pushes you to making something you maybe wouldnt normally, great warm up
This game rocks! I think it would help if you knew a DAW (digital audio workstation) before playing, as it's only really fluent gameplay for me knowing how to interact with a piano roll on a program like Ableton or Logic Pro, but not impossible! It has options for holding your hand more or less when it comes to which notes to select for instruments like synths and basses. Graphics are to die for, the overall cozy environment benefits a lot from the pixel graphics, and it's a very difficult game to get tilted from. Very relaxing and satisfying to see your little tunes come together at the end of each 'level'! Highly recommend :)
Just got done with what is currently available and had so much fun with it. I have a background in music studies and production so I felt at home quite fast. This game has the perfect amount of limitations to not get overwhelmed by option while having just enough to be interesting and feeling complex enough. The little quests are charming as well. And I love that all my songs are saved and free for me to use. I can´t wait to see the rest.
This game is so amazing, I have been actually addicted. You can tell the devs genuinely love this game and put so much effort into it. SERIOUSLY, if you are even the slightest bit interested in this game i PROMISE you will enjoy it. No matter how much music making experience you have, even if you have never touched an instrument or read a sheet of music in your life. If you're stuck, you can read up on the notes they leave for you which give you tips and tricks on creating better music, you can use the setting on the music making system that only gives you notes that sound good together, or you can follow the games advice and just "use your ears, because you know what sounds good and what doesn't." The jobs on this game give you good challenges as well, sometimes forcing you to try something you may not have tried otherwise. However, while they may have a requirement or two for the job, they give you soo much freedom on every piece of music. PLEASE PLAY THIS GAME i promise it is worth your time.
