About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Reviews
Reminds me of the good old days of Magix Music Maker - with an added weirdness to it! Can't wait to see what awesome tracks people can create with this!
As a total beginner who loves music but has never considered myself actually able to create it, this game has been a uniquely fun experience. The game gives you the fundamentals of music creation and builds from there with new instruments and mods for your old ones but never feels overwhelming at any point. If like me, you love all kinds of music but had never considered making your own. Give it a Go! This is the kind of game that makes me love the indie sphere, I can't wait to see this game develop even further.

Im a Homeproducer and I love this Game. The restrictions to use just what you have and not be overwhelmed by hundreds of Plugins, helpes a lot to regaining the joy and the curiousity of the beginning. I play with a Handheld Windowsbased Controller, using touchscreen. So I miss support for controller functionality. Question?…Couldn find the Menu to End the Game properly if not using a Keyboard, any Hint?
Super fun so far! I think I'm most of the way through the first chapter. As someone who has no musical knowledge or experience but has been wanting to try my hand, this game has been really fun and accessible. It's also very charming and has great art. The only thing I'd change is I don't think the actual splash page art for the game does a good job of selling it aesthetically, but maybe that's just my taste, and also is a very minor nitpick. Overall, would absolutely recommend!

Fun game and useful tool for learning the fundamentals of music production. Excited for future updates
The gameplay loop is pretty simple, record a song using the sequencer and your instruments, unlock more instruments and upgrades for them, make more music. Some of the different song request "missions" have different musical attributes that are required. These can be discovered by messing around with each piece of equipment's settings to get different sounds out of it. It might not be for everyone, but musically it's a very forgiving game. You're not failing songs because of "wrong notes" here, so go on and be your freaky best. That really might be the best part of the game. It was fun once or twice to put out discordant jank, but most of the time I really got into trying to make something sound as good as possible. The game does still a little light on features, but it's fresh out of early access so I still feel pretty good about the dev team. They've already pushed out a update that added quite a few things.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN CHANGE THE WAY THINGS SOUND WHILE ITS RECORDING AND IT ACTUALLY RECORDS THE CHANGE THAT'S COOL AS HELL
Super Cool! Its a simplified DAW that's extremely fun to play with, lots of good prompts and fun puzzles to get through. Definitely recommend if you're familiar with any kind of music production software.
As a music lover and hobby producer, this is some good fun! The way the game starts you off with basic equipment and gradually unlocks new tools, sounds, and possibilities is really well done. The progression feels rewarding, and the simplicity of the gameplay is part of its charm. What I especially like is how the game encourages experimentation. You don't need any musical knowledge to enjoy it, but if you already have experience producing music, you'll probably appreciate all the little details even more. Before you know it, you'll find yourself spending hours creating beats, trying out new combinations, and exploring everything the game has to offer. It's a surprisingly relaxing and creative experience.
