About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

loving the game! it's playful and witty and just downright fun to mess around with the sequencer. it really gets the creative juices flowing, i've made some tunes i'm very proud of so far! i particularly like how you can make the notes on the scales you use more or less complex to cater to all different levels of music theory (pentatonic/full scale/all semitones) - perfect for any level of understanding and very accessible. i'm exciting to see where it leads and will definitely be sharing my music with my friends
this is such a good game 10/10 amazing

Music is fun to make. And now it's even affordable! I can recommend this game to everybody who always wanted to try out music production but lacked the funds (and the guts) to really do it. Offbeat teaches playfully how to do it while being funny and cozy along the way. I just love it!
I'm goonin already
I don't usually make music since I get scared and discouraged by FL Studio or even GarageBand, but this game makes it less serious to create and has a much friendlier interface :] Great art!!
Do you wanna learn how to make some music? Have you ever said you'd start but you dont know where to start? You ever feel overwhelmed with the options you got in the world to make music, and its like theres tonnes of options but none of them really hit you right quite yet? Maybe you just wanna make some glorpy beats for fun! THIS GAME IS FOR YOU. 0 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
I highly recommend this game! I've loved music for a long time, but DAWs have been intimidating and overwhelming when I've attempted to learn them in the past. OFFBEAT simplifies the UI, and gamifies the process of learning by presenting tools one by one in a logical order, giving the player tasks designed to explore the systems available, and presenting a workspace where you can make anything you want. The art style is incredibly charming, the sound design is stellar, and at the end of the day I have .wav files I can share with my friends, or with a group of creatives on the discord making music to the same prompts, and with the same tools. I've never felt confident sharing my music before, but OFFBEAT makes the process a game and not a product or task. I've engaged more with making music since discovering it!
Already a really fun way to get familiar with music production, and there seems to be a lot more planned for the months ahead.
Writing music hasn't been more fun. With a lessons mode and a few more toys in the full release it could be a legit learning tool.
charming, lofi, music maker. buy it.
