a short adventure game. can recommend it. some puzzles. good graphic. beautiful view. the price is a bit to high but in offer for like -50% alright.

This 2017 game feels like made in 2007. Just because something has educational value doesn't mean it must be poorly made. And to give credit to 2007, there were some great games made that year. This game isn't good. It just feels like a failed project from that time period. This game was very clearly made by someone with zero experience in game design. On top of that it's the antithesis to "Show don't tell." And I assume the developers know what an antithesis is considering the pseudo-intellectual vibe you get from the first seconds you start this game. Straight up bad experience I'm not willing to try giving more than the 20 minutes I already did.

"Odyssey - The Story of Science" is a first person puzzle adventure where for some reason you decide to visit a tropical island and do maths and science puzzles. Yeah, me neither. The graphics look really nice here, which is a shame, because unfortunately the puzzles aren't super interesting. I think Far Cry went a lot further than it could have by trading the traditional, gritty, dingey atmosphere of rival games like Unreal and Quake for a very pleasing to the eye tropical island theme, and that helps Odyssey, too. Shame you don't see any of it because you have to read an entire short story every time you want to do a puzzle, explaining the math and science behind the puzzle so you can then solve it (they couldn't work out how to make the puzzles self-intuitive). And yeah, I get this is educational, but game developers don't get to charge an eye watering $15 USD just so we can learn some science. Now we're also learning about sales and marketing! There's an overwhelming amount of reading in this game. So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through some pretty mediocre science textbook stuff because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. My gaming rig is not a Kindle. From a technical perspective, surprisingly just one minor issue, because the graphics got a pass. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. The game never really caught on with the millions of gamers on Steam, with a very low peak player count close to launch, and then just a handful of players launching this game every couple of days. This is undoubtedly caused by factors such as those raised in this review. It's always helpful with buying decisions to consider how popular and successful the product is, and unfortunately while this did accumulate a few participation trophy reviews, overall, people just aren't using it. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Odyssey - The Story of Science" has the far too high price of $15 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $15 asking price for this game could get you games like "The Elder Scrolls Online", "Disco Elysium" or "Hearts of Iron IV". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this. Unfortunately Steam reviewers aren't presented with a "Maybe" option... if they did, that's what I'd choose. This isn't a completely bad game, but it's also not one of the best. As always, if you read my review and you can overlook the negatives I've called out, or they just aren't important to you, then by all means go ahead and buy this.

As an astronomy graduate, I can say it's an awesome educational game about physics and astronomy. The history of our understanding of our place in the universe is presented like a detective novel, where you need to use reason and find clues to show that the Earth goes around the Sun. It's the best ways to learn about science. It took me some extra time to complete the game, because I was looking up things like When did we first measure a stellar parallax, and how precise is our best telescope. And also pictures of Pluto. The side story from the diary notes is kind of interesting. It does a good job of providing a backdrop to the whole puzzle island. The music is pretty good. The game does end in a bit of a cliffhanger, and it doesn't seem like the sequel is coming.

Myst type puzzle game pure nostalgia love it.

Would recommend for Myst lovers. It is relies heavily on reading. Too much on reading. And on math and science puzzles. So maybe not much for Myst lovers. I would still recommend though. Bought for 8 bucks. Played for 5 hours, with a walkthrough. 4 out of 5 Stars.

Fun Little Puzzle game. a little bit buggy at times but it has checkpoints that save relatively often so quitting and re-entering will result in fixing most of the glitches. very easy to get all the achievements just a matter of progressing through the story. would recommend out of 10.
