Octopath Traveler II faithfully recreates the feeling of old-school 8- and 16-bit JRPGs with a modern coat of paint. First off: the soundtrack is beautiful (the Brightlands day theme is awesome) and the HD-2D style along with the set pieces create an amazing look. The remainder of what I'll say is either good or bad depending on your taste. The plot is highly non-linear: 8 separate plots can be played in any order and have a personal feel rather than having deep engaging plots. Combat is really boring with random encounters and they are frequent. Bosses can be very interesting though. Sometimes too interesting: several (especially the endgame) pull surprise mechanics on you and can wipe your team quickly, resulting in repeated trial and error approaches. I'm not one for thinking hard about how to break RPG mechanics (but maybe you are, and you'll love the challenge!), so it really felt like the game was twisting the knife at times. Overall I enjoyed roughly the first 85-90% of my playtime (this was finishing the side stories and the 8 plots). The endgame I could do without, but the game has several natural stopping points, so it's not so bad. So I can recommend this for anyone interested in a nostalgia kick or who just enjoys turn-based RPGs regardless of experience.

Another excellent title in the JRPG space. Wonderful experience.
GOTY Es un juego muy largo tu decides si eso es bueno o malo llevo 20 horas jugadas y no llevo ni un 10%. No esperes una gran dificultad pero si una buna historia.
The one word I would use to describe this game is: beautiful. Octopath Traveler II achieves beauty in not just its wonderfully crafted HD-2D art style, but in every aspect of its design - from the breathtaking soundtrack and dynamic lighting to the heartfelt character stories and surprisingly expressive world. This hidden gem genuinely reignited my appreciation for JRPGs, and I had an absolute blast taking it all the way to 100% completion. One of my biggest hesitations going in was the structure of eight separate protagonists, as I worried that keeping track of all the stories at once would feel overwhelming. Instead, I found the pacing to be surprisingly natural. Being able to tackle chapters and exploration at my own pace kept things fresh, and the Crossed Paths chapters/travel banter did a great job of making the cast feel connected. By the time the final chapters and ending rolled around, I was genuinely invested in every character. If I had one criticism, it’s that I actually wanted more Crossed Paths interactions/travel banter!! I loved seeing the party bounce off one another and wish there had been even more of those moments throughout the game to really sell the idea of them traveling and growing close to each other. I was also pleasantly impressed by the lack of grinding. I found that success was more tied to finding better equipment via exploration, understanding enemy weaknesses/counter strategies, experimenting with secondary jobs, and discovering party synergies. I also have to give credit to the "Break and Boost" combat mechanics, which felt really punchy and satisfying every time I broke an enemy's shield and proceeded to unload a fully boosted attack. Last thing about the combat: the boss designs go so HARD. The sprite work is absolutely incredible, and I loved that nearly every major boss came with unique mechanics rather than simply becoming a larger damage sponge. The game consistently encouraged strategic counterplay instead of brute-forcing encounters, which made every victory feel incredibly rewarding even if I got stomped the first few attempts. One tiny disclaimer: choose your starting character carefully!! Your protagonist is locked into your party until you complete their story, so whoever you pick will be your constant companion for most of the adventure. Without getting into spoilers, I recommend "WITH THESE HANDS" Castii - she's great!! As for the Steam Deck experience, I played 100% of this game in both handheld and docked and had zero issues. The game looks and plays like it was made for handhelds. Octopath Traveler II has become one of my favorite JRPGs in recent memory. It’s charming, strategic, emotionally sincere, and filled with memorable music and gorgeous visuals. If you’ve been looking for a game to remind you why you fell in love with JRPGs in the first place, I can’t recommend this one enough!! Absolute gem!
剧情有点低能。。。。很难想象这剧情居然是se从三四十个预案里挑出来的。。
