It's a solid but quite short 2D game with some incredibly creepy moments. You could probably finish this in one sitting as it can take less than an hour to complete. Gameplay is simple, only using the left mouse button to move, manage inventory and use items. The background audio helps create a sense of impending doom and dread as you wander around the areas trying to work out what's going on. Puzzles are logical and pretty fun to work out, but won't give you too much of a challenge. There's always a 'hint' button if you get a little stuck that shows you what you can interact with nearby. Finally, I really like the design of the creatures you encounter. They all look very unique and some are genuinely frightening. Overall I would recommend this. If you do end up getting this game, make sure to watch your step! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUFGUDc5DdY Apologies for the very brief review you may have seen earlier. My connection to steam was lost as I was editing it.
Perhaps a good point and click adventure, but I'll never know. It's obfuscating and frustrating gameplay turned me off immediately. The game tells you nothing whatsoever about the game itself, the story, the character, why you're doing what you're doing, the reasoning for the monsters, not even the start is explained. I liked mystery, but this felt like...laziness. I was expecting a Wadjet Eye Games style of gameplay with tight writing, logic and reasoning but in a horror setting. It fell short of that by a country mile. IF you want a horror point and click adventure check out The Charnel House Trilogy. It's superior in EVERY way (and it's only £0.95 during the sales)

First of all, you can finish the game in 1,5hrs or below, providing that you'll not be dying trying to figure out how to pass a level. --- To be honest, I completed the game just for the sake of finishing it. There's no real desire to play in order to reveal entire story or something, simply because.... there's no story :) Sometimes, you may get stuck as there are no clues telling you what to do. Of course, I don't mean that the game has to lead you through its entirety, but being stuck with no idea of what to do is no fun. Apart from the above, it's pretty simple and linear for most of the time, and will make you forget about it the minute you quit the game. If you're really going to buy this game, definitely get it on sale.
Octave is an amazing & immersive game! 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟦⭐️🟦🟦🟦🟦⭐️🟦🟦🟦🟦⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️⭐️🟦🟦⭐️⭐️⭐️🟦🟦⭐️⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦⭐️⭐️⭐️🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦⭐️⭐️⭐️🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦 🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦🟦⭐️🟦⭐️🟦 🟨⭐⭐🟨🟨⭐⭐⭐🟨🟨⭐⭐🟨 🟨⭐🟨⭐⭐🟨🟨🟨⭐⭐🟨⭐🟨 🟨⭐🟨🟨⭐⭐🟨⭐⭐🟨🟨⭐🟨 🟨⭐🟨🟨⭐🟨⭐🟨⭐🟨🟨⭐🟨 🟨⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨⭐⭐⭐🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨⭐🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨🟨
Like someone else said no saving in the chapters is a right pain. It's a shame because it's an interesting game, just a lot of the time I need a save within the chapters. Has a nice atmosphere for horror. Only con is the cheap jump scares and the no saving. Nice little puzzles and animations
I was willing to overlook the action sequences that required replaying scenes to continue and also the lack of story because I liked the art and was intrigued by what would happen next. But after playing for over an hour with only 1 "light" needed to complete chapter 1, the game failed because: 1. The final puzzle (I assume) in chapter 1 is to extinquish candles in a specific order based on symbols located above the candles that supposedly match the symbols around a door. As much as I tried to match the symbols, not all of them had a match so the puzzle would have been a trial and error effort in futility. 2. If there is a SAVE, it might be at the end of the chapter but certainly not anywhere in between. Exit the game and all progress in the current chapter (or maybe the entire game?) is lost and requires restarting from the beginning. No way would I replay a whole chapter just go get to a point where I probably couldn't continue anyway. Sorry, devs. This game has some things going for it but the two issues above are a game-breaker for me.
Octave is a very short 2D point and click horror adventure. Tied up and dragged out into the woods with a gun to your head, soon to be left for dead, you find yourself suddenly saved by a chilling, yet mysterious, figure. After your sudden rescue, and as you begin venturing deeper and deeper into the thick, dark woods, you can't help but wonder to if you've truly been saved, or if you've just been pushed into a whole new nightmare. Luckily there's a house up ahead, perhaps it holds answers to where you are, and who... or what... is lurking in the shadows. The world of Octave is beautifully crafted; from the backgrounds to the character sprites. It all has a very gloomy overtone to it that houses large quantities of toxic mold and musk. There's only one big puzzle to solve, a gauntlet of enemies to avoid, and a boss fight at the end, but the game itself is so atmospherically immersive that the quality of the content exponentially makes up for the lack of quantity. Coming in at just around an hour in length, this brain-teasing horror point and click is a perfect addition to any rainy day horror game marathon you might be planning. The only frustrating part to it is that the "double click to run" mechanic is a bit clunky. DISCLAIMER: Play this game only if you have the patience for it... and with i mean although it is like a hour long game it has some bugs that that makes you play the same checkpoint over-over until the bug is fixed and you can move forward. Also at some point the game looks very intresting like a puzzle that you have to solve but it makes you get some stuff in your "inventory" that you never use and i don't know why the develope made it this way that was kinda lame. Despite all the cons that i described i am giving this game a thumbs up only because it is very atmospheric, it has the right amount of "jump scares" but most importantly because it is only made by one person. Nice work.
I wish there had been more of some kind of story. It felt less like a game and more like a lot of hapless, frustrated clicking. I got through it with a very funny and helpful guide by someone on Steam.(Hawk Zombie, to give them credit) and honestly that was what made playing this game enjoyable.
