Dong Zhuo karşıtı büyük koalisyon dağıldı ve Hangu Geçidi'nin doğusundaki savaş beylerinin dönemi yeni başladı. Üç Krallık Dönemi'nin kahramanları Yuan Shao, Cao Cao, Liu Bei ve Lü Bu, şimdi Çin'in Orta Ovası'nda egemenlik kurmak için mücadele ediyorlar.
At its core, this is a tactical strategy game in which you take turns with the enemy to move units and perform actions. Clicking on a unit lets you move it – the range is marked with highlighted tiles – and either attack or use skills. A unit receives experience points with kills, which eventually leads to a level-up and one point that can be put freely into one of five stats such as strength or luck. When the battle is over, you get to explore the scene for coins and talk to characters. Coins are a bit problematic to get because of an awkward jump and the visual style, which makes character look like 2D cardboard cutouts. There’s some animation, but you have little control over the jump and you slide off If the surface isn’t flat. Coins lets you buy new units, but the selection is random and you get to pick one out of three options. As the game is still in its very early stages, there isn’t much to see—not in terms of content, which appears to be quite extensive, but in terms of the limited English translation. While the basic tutorial prompts and battle commands are translated, conversations during battles and exploration sections, as well as most other menu options, remain in the original language. For example, I got stuck right at the beginning because I had no idea you needed to open the main menu and select the last option to proceed to the next battle—I assumed that button was for quitting the game. Later, in the second battle, I didn’t realize the objective wasn’t to fight, but to retreat with a specific unit by moving it onto the highlighted tiles. From that point on, each battle begins with a wheel of several options that you have to click through just to figure out what they do. At the moment, the strategic core is solid and the battles play well, but the exploration sections feel weak due to the clunky platforming and coin collection. Personally, I’d wait for full English localization before diving in, as the current version has you moving from one battle to the next without giving you a real chance to connect with the characters or understand the story.

Obscure Chronicle of Dynastia is an indie tactical role-playing game created by developers PotS and Heskira and published by PotS together with IsaacZhang. The game draws heavy inspiration from the turbulent historical period that followed the collapse of the Anti-Dong Zhuo coalition in late Han dynasty China, a time that eventually gave rise to the legendary Three Kingdoms era. Instead of simply retelling the familiar historical narrative, the game presents an alternate interpretation of the events and the personalities involved, offering a strategic RPG experience that combines historical intrigue, tactical battles, and character-driven storytelling. Through its mixture of history and reinterpretation, the game invites players to step into a world filled with ambitious warlords, shifting alliances, and constant military conflict. The narrative unfolds during a moment of political instability when the temporary unity of the coalition forces begins to crumble. Without a shared enemy to unite them, the various regional leaders begin pursuing their own ambitions for power and territory. The game’s story follows the struggles of multiple factions as they attempt to secure control over different regions of China. Players encounter well-known historical figures such as Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Yuan Shao, and Lü Bu, but the game also introduces many lesser-known characters who played roles in the chaotic transition between the Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. This approach gives the story a broader perspective, highlighting both famous generals and overlooked individuals whose ambitions and decisions shaped the political landscape of the time. Gameplay is built around turn-based tactical combat that takes place across grid-based battlefields. Each encounter challenges players to carefully position their units, consider terrain advantages, and coordinate attacks in order to defeat opposing forces. The design places strong emphasis on strategy rather than reflexes, encouraging players to think several moves ahead before committing to an action. Different terrain features such as elevation changes, obstacles, and narrow pathways influence how battles unfold, often forcing players to rethink their approach to positioning and movement. Success in combat requires a balance between offensive planning and defensive awareness, as poorly placed units can quickly become vulnerable to enemy attacks. One of the defining features of the game is its large roster of playable characters. Dozens of generals and officers drawn from historical sources appear throughout the campaign, many of whom can eventually join the player’s forces. Each character comes with unique traits, abilities, and battlefield roles that affect how they perform during combat. Some specialize in direct attacks and frontline combat, while others function better as tacticians, archers, or support units. This diversity encourages experimentation with different team compositions and strategies, allowing players to tailor their army to their preferred playstyle. The large cast also contributes to replayability, as players can revisit missions with different character combinations to explore new tactical possibilities. The game’s structure consists of story missions interspersed with optional scenarios and challenge maps. The main campaign follows the central narrative, presenting key events and conflicts that shape the unfolding power struggle between rival factions. These missions gradually introduce new mechanics and stronger enemies, increasing the complexity of battles as the story progresses. In addition to the main storyline, challenge stages provide alternative scenarios that test the player’s strategic skills under more demanding conditions. These optional battles may feature unusual objectives or difficult enemy formations, rewarding players who have mastered the game’s tactical systems. Another interesting aspect of the game is the inclusion of pre-battle dialogue sequences that allow players to interact with various historical figures before combat begins. These conversations provide insight into each character’s motivations, personality, and relationships with other leaders. Through these interactions, the game adds a layer of narrative depth that goes beyond simple battlefield encounters. The characters discuss political ambitions, personal rivalries, and the consequences of their actions, giving the player a better understanding of the complex social and political dynamics driving the conflicts. The writing attempts to strike a balance between historical authenticity and creative storytelling. While the game draws inspiration from historical texts and classical sources about the late Han dynasty, it does not attempt to strictly replicate recorded history. Instead, it introduces alternate interpretations and fictionalized elements that reshape certain events or character relationships. This creative approach allows the developers to explore “what-if” scenarios while still grounding the narrative in recognizable historical themes and personalities. Visually, the game adopts a stylized aesthetic that blends anime-inspired character artwork with historical Chinese themes. Character portraits are colorful and expressive, presenting each general with a distinctive design that reflects their personality and role in the story. On the battlefield, characters are represented by smaller stylized models that move across terrain-based maps filled with hills, structures, and environmental details. The combination of vibrant character illustrations and structured battlefield layouts gives the game a unique visual identity that stands out among many traditional historical strategy titles. Despite its ambitious concept, the game still carries the marks of its indie development origins. Some areas of the presentation and gameplay systems feel somewhat rough, particularly during the earlier stages of development. Balance between certain units and abilities may require refinement, and the campaign structure continues to evolve as new content is added. However, these imperfections are also typical of strategy RPGs developed by small teams, and they do not overshadow the depth and creativity found in the core mechanics. Ultimately, Obscure Chronicle of Dynastia offers an intriguing blend of historical inspiration and tactical gameplay. Its emphasis on strategic planning, large cast of characters, and alternate historical storytelling creates an experience that feels both familiar and distinctive within the strategy RPG genre. Players who enjoy methodical turn-based combat and stories set during the Three Kingdoms era will likely appreciate the game’s ambitious scope and historical flavor. While the project may still require further polish and expansion, the foundations already demonstrate a strong passion for both history and strategy game design, making it a promising entry in the growing field of indie tactical RPGs.
