If you like Nine Sols that looks like Mortal Kombat 2, you will like this. A little jank but combat flows really well once you get it. Very impressive for a first time coding from one person.
i have been playing games since the 70's and for a brief time after Mortal Kombat came out there were some pale game imitations that used digitized or rotoscope people that were very very bad. After trying a few, I came to the conclusion that only the BIg Boys could use this technique to make a decent game. When I saw Obey The Insect God I thought the dame thing. It has been decades since I played a rotten game with characters that looked this shabby. It looks like someone got there best friends together and said "Lets make a game". However, this one breaks the mold and someone created a decent game with very questionable looking heroes and villains. I have only played a little while and am quite impressed. I like the fact that developers zoomed the characters far enough out to make the game easier to digest. The backgrounds are serviceable, but the combat is quality. Do yourself a favor and try the demo. If you like side scrollers, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Charles. I will beat this game on hard
그래픽이랑 모션에 속지마세요 생각보다 재미있습니다
Unique.
Yeah, this game is really cool! Really dig the mixed-media style with digitized FMV sprites and photo-bashed backgrounds. It's closest to a metroidvania with an surprisingly deep combo-based combat system. The world is huge and filled with secrets, including several entirely optional bosses. There's a lot of intentional silliness, a bit of incidental jank, and also a good dose of lore based in an alternative interpretation of the Kalevala. tl;dr - Really fun and interesting game! Don't let the visuals fool you. This ain't no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lmao.
Awesome game 5/5! Obey the Insect God Full Game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqlpygCSe28
I grew up in the 90s being one of the only people that somewhat enjoyed Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Everything about that game (lore, setting, MK fighting system) intrigued me. The unfortunate reality of MKM:SZ is that it was too frustratingly difficult. Obey the Insect God channels the spirit of MKM:SZ but without the bull. Make no mistake: the characters, enemies, background, foreground are all made to look like its straight out of the 90s. I believe a lot of people will look at the aesthetic and believe its low effort jank, but if you've played similar games in the 90s (especially digitized sprites on the Sega Saturn), you will know how much effort was put into everything. I've put almost 8 hours into OtIG at the time of this review, and I'm almost at 25% completion. I find that I keep coming back for more over the last couple weeks because I've enjoyed the gameplay and the aesthetic. The game can appear very difficult at first, but once you get the reasonable timing down, the combat flows very well. Your character has a double jump that keeps him nimble and allows him to climb walls with ease. Fighting on normal (at least with the first weapon) is a satisfying combination of parrying to break the enemy's guard and inputting combos. If you die, you don't really lose anything; all of your items that you picked up remain with you and you get teleported to a random save room within the section of the level your character is in. In other words, even if you make it all the way to the end of the level, flip a switch, and then immediately die, you've still made progress because the switch is still flipped and your items remain with you. I'd love to see more of a return to digitized sprites when the gameplay fits, and it fits Obey the Insect God very well indeed.
I couldn't finish the game myself because of my lack of skills, but I'm gifting it to others to spread the word about how fun it is.
I am not far into the game, but very much enjoyed the demo and what I've seen in the full release. Between the music, level textures, character models, and ridiculous dialogue, I have been thoroughly entertained. Platforming feels excellent, and the zoom toggle is a really great solution for going from navigating to fighting. The combat feels a bit mushy, but the animations more than make up for it, and the at-will difficulty options ensure it never feels frustrating. Games with this much heart come around more often than you might expect, you just gotta keep your eyes open.
