Nuclear Throne is a post-apocalyptic roguelike-like top-down shooter. Not 'the final hope of humanity' post-apocalyptic, but 'humanity is extinct and mutants and monsters now roam the world' post-apocalyptic. Can you reach the Nuclear Throne?

My number 2 game of all time, it feels like the platonic ideal of a rouguelike: you technically can never master because you can always push further, despite having a top tier build you still die if you ♥♥♥♥ up, and there are barely any real upgrades, its all skill. Amazing bullet hell with very high pace. Every freaking weapon has good gamefeel. Very simple, tons of depth. I am ~300 hours in (my previous 200 were in an epic acount and in a Friend's computer), and I am still improving, able to kind of loop consistently. Very different from Gungeons slower pace, I could never get into Gungeon because I always come back to this one. Very frantic, high dopamine/octane action. One of the most underrated games out there in my opinion. I am so glad this was my first roguelike. Its challenging and punishing, but you learn over time, and before you know it, the section you used to be stuck in looks trivial. Amazing unlocks, they don't make you stronger, but the challenges for obtaining them are really fun/gratifying. Most fun characters: Chrystal, YV, Steroids, and my sleeper hit: Plant. I really love this game and I feel it should be known as the grat roguelike it is

One of the best roguelikes avaliable, everything is so full of personality, solid design choices throughout, and really easy to pickup on a break
Still good, still worth buying, still hard, still fun
This game is really damn good.
I've had this on my wishlist for quite awhile, and with the most recent update coming out along with the game going on discount, I decided to finally give it a try. The gameplay is really solid. You enter a stage, kill every enemy, get weapons, leave, and mutate depending on if you leveled up. The mutations themselves are really well done, as they all feel different enough from each other and aren't outright bad. This game is also really hard, and dying will happen very often, but due to how fast paced this game is, losing a run isn't that much of a setback. You can easily just start another like nothing happened. Despite being a roguelite, most of Nuclear Throne's content isn't locked away in unlocks. Almost every character is easily unlocked by just playing the game without any guides (Except maybe YV). Character skins are purely cosmetic to my knowledge, so you don't have to worry about unlocking them. The only other thing that you unlock that really affects gameplay are crowns, which are very straightforward as to how you get them. Nearly everything else not mentioned is already unlocked, only requiring skill to be seen. Due to the game's fast paced nature, the runs typically at least last around 10 minutes each if you can win. You could easily fit multiple full runs into an hour if you consistently played, and that's excluding all the times you might also die, since that tends to happen a lot. At the time of writing this review, I have only just started to try out looping past the final boss, my record being only 2-1 L1 cause I suck. The fact that I managed to invest this much time and haven't even seen half the content should demonstrate how much I enjoy this game.
