Notebook Entries Vol. 1

I don't want to be rude here because the game is made entirely by 1 person, but this is not fun. It's certainly not scary. It's definitely not worth $5. The game claims to be an anthology of 8 short "stories," but I would call this misleading at best because oftentimes there is no story! Split Screen is an interesting premise where you're exploring a house with a night vision camera that sometimes shows you different things than what you see yourself. It's a genuinely cool idea, but it lasts 5 minutes at the most. White Canvas comes after, directly connecting itself with Split Screen. It's literally hold W for a minute and that's it. Makes zero sense and is totally pointless. Just A Peep. Again, this is boring. You're stuck in an apartment and press E to interact with things that glow red. Intermission is the most visually interesting, but that alone didn't hold my interest. Gameplay is almost like Simon Says. I Think I Hit Something has you driving and then doing QTEs. You play as an anime girl for some reason. Don't Look Up is another segment that has you hold W for a little bit. Weird nonsense ending and cringe dialogue. Repeat. Repeat. Compulsion. is frustrating nonsense. Most of this is a black screen with garbled audio playing. Once in a while some prompt will show up at which point you have about 3 seconds to react or you start all over. A Sheep's Gun, like Split Screen, is also kind of interesting. It has a small amount of combat, but the story is asinine. I don't know. I thought this would be a little bit like Dread X Collection, and I had genuinely high hopes for it. For $1 this might not be that bad, but all these segments last maybe 5 minutes at the most, with some being way less than that. It says I have an hour of playtime, but a good chunk of that is because I had to repeat so much of 'Repeat. Repeat. Compulsion.' The monsters in this are often goofy, with elongated limbs and silly smiles stretched across their face. The voice-acting is amateurish, which I can mostly forgive due to the 1-man dev team, but when coupled with what's frankly embarrassing dialogue and writing, it coalesces into a corny cringefest. There's one or two interesting ideas, and it's a solid effort coming from a single person. But, I regret buying this and can't recommend it to anyone for full price.
