Singleplayer/Story Review only. Pros: -Added both campaigns which can easily total 40-50 hours, especially if you want to go for bonus objectives. -A good introduction to RTS games as compared to other games like CIV or AOE. The campaign gradually teaches the main gameplay loop, followed by other win conditions -Cross of Vidar(CoV) added some new gameplay mechanics and alternate bonus objectives. It does pad out the run time, but it let me think differently how I wanted to approach the fight -The different clans/kingdoms all had their own takes on win conditions, so it was fun to play around with. -Rig Saga levels were comparatively better designed. Cons: -Combat is pretty weak. You usually only have 3 types of units, and your main characters are usually tanky enough I almost always picked range. You can also dip around territories because the AI is pretty dumb. -Rig Saga was a lot better than Cross of Vidar in that most chapters had a sense of urgency in terms of threat, like 3 giants rushing down your base with one increasing every turn. CoV barely had any of that. -CoV also had a decision philosophy of more action/micro rather than strategy. Like, the final boss is a deathball rush into a solo boss fight bullet hell. No careful strategizing or application of Lion concepts for the past 6-7 chapters. Also fight is buggy af. -CoV stealth mission. Way too long, doesn't play out to the RTS strengths. Meh: -Because all resource is zonally locked, the game is more about making specific decisions at certain timings rather than APM spam to make things go up. It's good because once I'm at a comfortable stage resource wise, I can focus more on combat. Downside is, you end up waiting more often not especially early to get your stuff started. -Lion was a very interesting addition to mix up the formula of Vikings usual opener. Just wished there were more different clans to experiment around with. Also the playstyle for Lion being so drastically different yet also poorly explained. Overall: -Just off the playtime and the gameplay alone, it is definitely a recommend. Only not try this if you want something hardcore, I think you'll get bored. Otherwise, go for it!
