Send it Back, It's Not Done I have less than an hour in this game because I beat it in 55 minutes and have no desire to go through again. Pros: - It's a twin stick shooter - It cost 3 Dollars on sale Cons: - It's a bad twin stick shooter - Cannot change the button layout. I like to keep my thumbs on the sticks, the layout makes it so I have to take my thumb off the sticks to roll, activate a special, etc. - Bugs: 1)Reloading while transitioning areas will keep the reload icon up until you reload again. 2)If you hold a direction while transitioning you will move during a blank screen and potentially run into traps. 3)On the main menu, if you exit out of controls and immediately re-enter controls, the credits play. 4)Killing the boss in the arcade room during one of his attacks will make the sound continuously play until the next stage. That includes the power up screen. 5)Not really a bug but the image on the extended part of my monitor stays up while the rest fades out. I've seen it in other games but those were way better and didn't make me regret playing them. -the weapons suck. The basic weapon was my favorite since it shoots straight and I don't have to repeatedly tap the button to fire. Several weapons either use a spread pattern that hits nothing or requires button taps. -the power-ups suck. You can only acquire and equip them in between stages. There is no upgrades for weapons, power ups, or special abilities. you have 3 slots for power ups and that's it. -each stage follows the same layout. Kill enemies and go to the next room a couple times until you reach a locked gate. Go one room away to get the key. Use the key and continue until you reach the boss. You move slow as hell and have to traverse screens which are dedicated solely to vending machines which you won't need. -as I type this, ghetto trash are driving around with their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ music blasting making me even more irate. the developer can keep my money, he's going to need it if his games are this bad. I realize i'm being harsh but how can you make a twin stick shooter and include nothing that makes them great?
Nom Nom Apocalypse is currently under-cooked and doesn't have enough spice. This needs a lot of work: The lag spikes that cause you to get hit or die which happen about every 5 minutes There is no story whatsoever, you just exist and food is evil. If your mouse pointer goes to far away from your character the aim stalls Turning while shooting is either slow or impossible Each section load launches the character like 30 foot ahead with speed ups and slow downs Sometimes those bullets might register as a hit While the artwork is nice it looks rough and very few models are used instead you see the same car times 100 or the same pile of food and rocks everywhere. I hope this is still in development cause it could get a lot better but at its current state its a hard pass, it feels like an alpha bare bones release. To clarify; I absolutely loved Gungeon and Undermine and play rogues as quickly as they come out, not new to the genre. This isn't me criticizing the rogue genre, this game needs lots of work.
Disclaimer: I was a playtester on this game and received it for free. Nom Nom Apocalypse is a top-down twin-stick shooter. If you enjoy games such as Binding of Isaac or Enter The Gungeon and are looking for something fresh, you may get a kick out of this too. There are unlockable characters with different abilities. When completing a stage, you'll earn money to spend on perks, which are permanent unlockables allowing you to make yourself stronger for the rest of the run, and any subsequent run thereafter. There are 5 levels, with 7 bosses to choose from, and combined with a difficulty curve that starts introducing new minibosses and traps as you make progress towards the end, there will be something new to see for at least 10 hours of play, even if you manage to fully complete a run. As I did playtest this game, I understand that some of you may feel I have a bias, which is why I posted the disclaimer at the top and tried to keep the review informative, instead of emotive. If you have any concerns, I've left comments on, and you're welcome to comment with them here, so I can get back to you.
Nom Nom Apocalypse is an okay game, the enemy designs are really cool and the weapons are neat for the most part although some feel a bit similar. I would say this is best if played local co-op. I tried playing co-op with some steam friends and we kept having issues mostly due to how the remote play together works, it's a bit finicky. I did try some local co-op as well and we did have fun with the game. Twice we got to the 2nd level but weren't able to make it father because the game becomes a lot more challenging and I feel like my character just can't keep up. I don't know if it's due to the damage levels being too hard, the in-game money being too low, or just the way you progress from level to level but something feels a bit off and more tweaking is needed. The 1st level is no issue but level 2 is so much harder, it feels unbalanced. The controls are okay and there is the option to remove the crosshairs, I'm so happy to see that I usually hate having crosshairs in a twin-stick shooter because my eyes are usually drawn to it rather than the enemies and makes for a rough time. That wasn't really the case in Nom Nom Apocalypse but the fact that this option is there is amazing. I wasn't a fan of the "A" button being used to dogeroll though and not having the option to remap buttons. Because this is a twin stick shooter your thumbs need to be on both sticks at all times. The LT button would be the perfect place for the dodgeroll because you have to let go of the right stick to press "A", but if you could remap it to LT (which ism't even used) it would fix this issue and allow you to run, aim, fire and dodgeroll with ease. I wish I could recommend this, I could actually go either way on it right now but what tips the scale is me thinking that if I bought this at full price in it's current state, would I be happy and get enough out of it to warrant the price and of choosing this over something else. I think this just comes up a bit shy, mainly due to the game balance. It's frustrating, when you lose you have to start over from the very beginning again even if you save the game. I would love to come back and give this another go in a few months time, hopefully it has been updated and gets a bit of a tweak to balance things a little more, then I would probably give this a light recommend. The characters and bosses in this game are so awesome.

"You know those nights as a child when you have had too much fast food and candy due to one celebration or another and you had a food-related nightmare? Well, Nom Nom Apocalypse took that idea and turned it into a pretty decent roguelite!" Nom Nom Apocalpse is, in short, a food/nightmare-themed roguelite where you'll need to clear rooms after rooms of spawned enemies before testing your mettle against a boss at the end of the dungeon. Each run (for each location) is fairly short, taking up around 10 mins or so with little downtime in between "rooms". A single playthrough, provided that you don't die in between, consists of 5 locations, including a final boss fight that I haven't had the pleasure of checking out yet. The level design here is also fairly "standard" and perhaps same-y after multiple runs feel despite being procedurally-generated, a issue that's prevalent in Don't Die, Minerva!, another similar roguelite, as well. However, I won't say that it's a "con" for the game since the intense gameplay does keep things hectic enough for you to focus more on the enemies and other survival/combat-related items as opposed to anything else. ------------------
Watch me play!
Part 1: Still learning the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtUmsFyrPnk Part 2: I'm a bit wiser
but I still fell off the platform at least two times :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqSskBc148o ---------------------- Similar to Don't Die, Minerva!, the gunplay here takes a while to warm up to, especially since since certain guns have some weird recoil mechanics to it, and you'll quickly learn that you can't do two things at once, like dodge-rolling while shooting. But once you got the rules of the game down to pat, you'll find the game to be quite a delight to play!
Pros
+ Fun and challenging enough arcade-shooting gameplay but the game has some weird mechanics (slight ones) that you might have to get a hang of first before the game will start to be fun... you know, understand how things really worked + Love the boss fights! + Lots of perks to buy and equip but it's very likely that you'll just buy a set of 3 perks and just stick with them until you've unlocked new and maybe better ones. + Similarly, the game has a really nice arsenal of weapons, all of which are kitchen-themed. However, you'll quickly realize that some weapons are better than others. You can carry up to 3 different weapons at a time. + Lots of characters to unlock and play. Each of them has a special charged ability that might be useful, dependin gon your play style.
Cons
- Bugs - The ammo counter (the numbers that show how much ammo I have left) keeps bugging out throughout my playthrough. Once, the game bugged out during a reload. Most of these bugs can be easily "fixed" by switching to another weapon and switching back. - I think the enemies should have health bars. - Transition between the dungeon and the score screen seems a bit slow - Suggestion: I think the devs could make the transition between "rooms" within the same dungeon a bit smoother by, perhaps, avoiding a black screen altogether. - Suggestion: It's a bit disappointing that I can't use my environment against my enemies. Tried blowing up cars several times but enemies don't seem to be affected but the explosions definitely affect my character. - Suggestion: I find myself with a ton of extra cash with nothing to buy. I think maybe you could add in buy-able but temporary boosts before a boss fight or a new dungeon - Despite the replayability, I'm not sure if the game is able to provide $14-worth of playtime. Maybe you'd like to wait for a discount before buying.
Overall
I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not for you all, but I'd liken Nom Nom Apocalypse to another indie roguelite that I've played before - Don't Die, Minerva! Like the latter, this game is pretty fun, challenging for a midcore gamer like me, and isn't too buggy to be game-breaking... in other words, this is a fairly decent game! I really liked discovering new bosses to defeat and new guns to play around with. However, the game is somewhat buggy - not in a game-breaking way though - and the cost might be a bit high unless you're an achievement hunter due to the total playtime you would likely be able to rack up. If you're interested, I'd recommend putting the game in your wishlist and wait a bit for a discount.
Termina aí a trama do jogo.
