Really cool game, love just about everything. Hope to see some more games like this. Gives the feeling of playing with the old Captain Power toys. No complaints here.
NIGHTSTAR: Alliance, developed and published by Tiny Leviathan Studios, is a VR arcade shooter that builds its entire identity around immersion and multitasking under pressure. It takes the familiar foundation of space-based shoot-’em-ups and reworks it into something more physical and immediate, placing players directly inside the cockpit of a customizable battlecruiser. Rather than relying purely on traditional controls, the game uses motion-based interaction to turn piloting, combat, and upgrades into a simultaneous juggling act that defines the overall experience. The setup is simple but effective: humanity has been pushed to the brink by a hostile artificial intelligence, and you are tasked with rebuilding strength through combat. The narrative remains mostly in the background, serving as a loose framework rather than a driving force. What matters is the action itself, which begins almost immediately and rarely slows down. Enemy ships approach from all directions, creating a constant sense of urgency that keeps players engaged from the start. What sets the game apart is how it handles interaction in VR. One hand is typically dedicated to controlling the movement and positioning of your ship, while the other manages weapons, modules, and upgrades in real time. This division of responsibility creates a dynamic flow where players must constantly shift their attention between offense, defense, and resource management. The physical act of reaching out to equip new components or activate abilities adds a layer of engagement that goes beyond standard input methods. When everything aligns, the experience feels fluid and intuitive, delivering a strong sense of presence. Combat is fast-paced and heavily inspired by classic arcade shooters, with waves of enemies increasing in both number and aggression. Success depends on quick reactions, accurate targeting, and efficient use of your available tools. The ability to customize your ship during and between encounters adds a strategic layer, allowing players to tailor their approach based on the situation. Over time, additional systems such as fleet support and expanded loadouts give a sense of progression, even though the core gameplay remains consistent. One of the more interesting aspects of NIGHTSTAR: Alliance is its emphasis on real-time decision-making. Upgrades and adjustments are not confined to safe menus or downtime—they happen in the middle of combat. This creates moments of tension where players must decide whether to risk focusing on upgrades or stay fully engaged in defense. It’s a mechanic that adds depth, but it can also feel overwhelming, particularly for newcomers who are still adapting to the demands of VR interaction. Visually, the game adopts a stylized, neon-infused aesthetic that complements its arcade roots. The use of bright effects and clear visual cues helps maintain readability during intense moments, while explosions and weapon effects add a sense of spectacle. The sound design reinforces this, providing impactful feedback that enhances the feeling of power and urgency. While the presentation is not highly detailed, it is cohesive and effective in supporting the gameplay. The game’s limitations become more apparent over extended play. While the core loop is engaging, it doesn’t evolve significantly, and the variety of enemies and scenarios is somewhat limited. Progression systems provide some motivation to continue, but they do not fundamentally change how the game is played. As a result, the experience can begin to feel repetitive, especially for players looking for deeper or more varied content. There are also occasional issues with balance and usability. Managing multiple systems simultaneously can lead to moments where controls feel less precise than intended, and difficulty can spike unpredictably as enemy waves intensify. These moments don’t overshadow the experience, but they highlight the challenges of combining complex interaction with fast-paced gameplay in VR. Ultimately, NIGHTSTAR: Alliance succeeds as a focused and immersive arcade shooter that makes strong use of virtual reality’s strengths. It captures the intensity of space combat while adding a physical layer that makes each action feel more direct and engaging. While it may lack long-term depth and variety, its core mechanics are compelling enough to deliver satisfying sessions, particularly for players who enjoy high-energy, skill-based gameplay in VR. movement needs to be a little bit better and more selectable sections available
A fun VR gaming experience! Action / strategy spaceship adventure. Rebuild your ship (and those of your allies) with upgrades in mid battle.
สนุกมาก
Fun shoot em up in VR. You can grab powerups as they float by and build up a fleet of ships.
Game doesnt support quest 2 controller, cannot control the ship properly ,concept is good but they need to add more support to the story mode also
Opinions on current early access release version. Pro Retro graphics are great with a retro difficulty to match Has a R-Type/ Macross/ Gundam immersion - very pleasing to the eye Con Limited controller support with the Index controllers - no remapping You are more reliant on the tracer fire to aim
Kinda cool for a Xortex style game but not very fun or well designed. Basically 1 drawn out gameplay mode, ship building and upgrading would be cool if it weren't so hectic, and more. Not bad for the low price I guess but it's still not that good.
