tl;dr Just download Xonotic instead. They took an arena FPS that was slightly popular on PC, bought the rights to the name, and then proceeded to strip away everything that made the original game great and create....well this. They used an engine that can't handle the type of fast-paced gameplay that Nexuiz was known for. They came up with a weird mutator power up system that should have just been a special game mode, and then made that a core game mechanic. The netcode is just bad, so the online play isn't worth your time. It's crazy how much they managed to change the game for the worse. This game also split up the original community because of the drama caused by the whole thing. The guy who made the original game engine sold the Nexuiz name without asking the community. Since people in the community helped develop Nexuiz, and since the Nexuiz name then became the property of THQ, people dropped it and made a new game based on Nexuiz gameplay called Xonotic. Many of the players were unhappy and went over to play Xonotic after that. Support for this game has ended. It was a flop to begin with, but when THQ went under, this game disappeared for years. People just kind of wrote it off as a lost cause. Even if it had ongoing support I still wouldn't recommend it just because you can get Xonotic for free. Xonotic is just a better game for so many reason. Better online play, better engine for fast gameplay, better weapons, more content, and the list goes on. It doesn't have the Cryengine graphics that this game has, but it does keep true to what made the original Nexuiz game great. I've spent hundreds of hours in Xonotic and don't regret a minute of it.

This arena shooter is so much fun and looks delicious. Sadly the developers dropped support for it and it wasn't playable online for a long time. Now the game got re-released in the Steam Store and the player base is gone. Seriously, either no soul is online or the servers are not reachable. I sadly can't recommend this game, because the developers are obviously not capable of maintaining it properly. I'd like more people to own this, so the player base grows, but first there should be functioning servers... Developers, fix your ♥♥♥♥. Thanks.
This game is dead. The servers were taken offline in February 2013 due to the closure of THQ. Download Xonotic for free instead (it's a fork of the original): https://xonotic.org/ The original Nexuiz was developed by Alientrap and came out in 2005. It ran on the DarkPlaces engine, a modified Quake engine. It was released as free software under the GNU GPL and was available for Linux, FreeBSD, macOS, and Windows. In March 2010, the name "Nexuiz" was licensed to IllFonic for commercial use. In 2012, this remake came out. It was described as a "haphazard port" of an old mod for an old game that added little to the genre or the original concept other than charging money. This game should be de-listed from the Steam store, but since it's still being sold for $10, I am giving it a negative review.
Fast paced quake-style game with interesting elements. Cry engine 3. Gorgeus graphics. Great soundtrack. Fluid. Competitive. Varied power-ups. Potential.
Sadly, the game doesn't even run.
It's a gorgeous game, with amazing, fast-paced gameplay, but... The devs abandoned the game, and all the players left with them. It's just a ghost town now.
ENG: If you like the original game, and usually you will fit your style of agile and entertaining first-person shooter games then this is your game! I think one of the best team throughout the first-person shooter games on Steam, I can recommend to all those, especially, who do not play TF2 game. Good game!
Amazing game, really faced fast arena shooter in similar vein of unreal/quake with sci-fi setting and varied levels. The game looks good and the audio is crisp and clean, the mutators are a integral part of the game and makes the game so much fun, you chose from 3 different random options and there are plenty of those to keep it random and fun at the same time. This game was relaunched after a long time due to the old publishers (THQ) shutting down the servers as they went bankript which is a shame, the problem still with the game is that it still has optimization issues and the biggest problem of populated servers, the game literally has 8-10 people playing at during its peak while has even zero during down time which is a real shame coz this is one of those highly underrated titles that i am sure many people would love to play as we dont have many mp games in the similar genre these days.
The online game , team deathmatch and capture the flag stuff, where in the servers are now deceased for a long long time ago, and to add more into it, you need to actually pay for the game , making it one of a collection kind of game,.....Let's add more spoilers to our extremely critical review... Your game will crash the moment the you open it because it seems like the the game originally was designed to function only when the game servers were up and running.....So, it literally turns out to be one of a collection kind of a thing....No players to play with, game freeze and crash on startup, no online servers available.... However, I am still gonna recommend this game, First and foremost, there is a guide available to bypass game startup crash, that has to do some tweaks with your firewall settings,...Secondly, once that's done, though there is no way, in the present moment , in 2022, unless you travel to parallel universe where it is still 2012, you can play this game with real players,,,The bot matchmaking is equally fun and impulsive. Maps are just as awesome as it could get, power ups and dynamic mutators, giving player a certain advantage over the counter team, sexy weapons. There is a blistering joy in just playing with bots making anyone deeply regret what a diamond we have lost in a seemingly online community fed game. Provided your PC can handle it, this game is like re-modernized and remastered counter strike global offensive with same concept but except to indulge in hours and hours of bot fight. Last but not the least, to all readers, if there is a teensy bit chance to resurrect this game and bring back players, COME BACK BABY !!! I AM EAGER TO HAVE A MATCH WITH YOU !!!
I would have recommended this game 4 years ago, it was great... But now... a big NO If you buy this game, 3 games will be added on your steam library : [olist] [*] Nexuiz : It doesn't work because the game is trying to connect to a server, the server doesn't exist anymore, so there's an endless loop on the main menu, the game freezes, no button works, Ctrl + Alt + Del to close the game (and sometimes this also doesn't work). https://steamcommunity.com/app/96800/discussions/5/♥♥♥♥866180610827866/ (last comment contains a fix) [*] Nexuiz Beta : same as number 1 [*] Nexuiz STUPID mode : It's basically Nexuiz with ultra high graphic quality (80fps on my gtx1080, 2k resolution), it works but only if you play against bots, the servers are down (but no endless loop on the main menu), there are also some graphic glitches (missing lightnings...). [/olist] Conclusion : disappointing, this game was made by THQ, but since THQ doesn't exist anymore... it's dead, what a shame, this game had so much potential (also in Esport).
