The main objective of the game is to populate your sanctuary with animals and collect rewards as the years pass. The gameplay itself is relatively simple and unfolds in a seasonal cycle. You begin with a single animal, a small amount of money, and a locked 5x4 grid. During Spring, your first task is to purchase and unlock a few grid tiles. Once that’s done, clicking on the hourglass at the bottom of the screen advances time to Summer, when your animals will automatically occupy random tiles. Each animal placed on the grid generates income, but since you start with only one, you’ll soon need to expand your collection. This happens in Autumn, the next season after clicking the hourglass again. At this stage, you can buy one new animal from a random selection of three. Even if you have enough money for multiple purchases, you are limited to buying just one animal per turn. The enjoyable aspect lies in each creature’s unique attributes and perks. For example, a horse earns extra money when positioned next to a zebra, while a leopard can prey on neighboring herbivores for bonus cash. When Winter arrives, you can manage your animals through several actions: feeding them to boost income, putting them to sleep (removing them from the sanctuary), neutering them so they don’t breed, or sending them into heat. However, these Winter activities require special items that are limited in number each year, forcing you to prioritize your choices carefully. Breeding occurs naturally if both a male and female of the same species are in heat and occupy adjacent tiles, resulting in the birth of a new animal. Neutering, on the other hand, is required so species with several animals in your sanctuary doesn’t go too wild and breed every turn. Although having more animals might not sound bad, they will occupy tiles and take spots from more valuable animals that bring in more money. The final major mechanic is merging. When three identical animals align—either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—you can combine them into an upgraded version that yields higher rewards. To merge higher-tier animals, you’ll again need three of the same level. Interesting for a round or two, but there's not much to see.
