Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters is an Action RPG by Compile Heart. As someone who likes action RPGs and was a fan of Neptunia in the past, I‘ve returned to the franchise by playing some of the newer games that were released. This game does pretty much everything I‘ve wanted out of a Neptunia title, and I wouldn‘t have fallen off of the franchise if games like this one came out more frequently.
Story
Nepgear and friends are put into a coma by a mysterious girl. This coma lasts for two long years, in which Gamindustri changed dramatically. All the nations are on lockdown due to a threat of monsters, Planeptune has been completely overtaken by them, and the PC Continent has disappeared entirely, with many people having lost their lives. Nepgear wakes up and is immediately distraught about having lost Neptune, who supposedly died while protecting the PC Continent. Unsure about what to do next and experiencing depression, Nepgear meets a new and sweet friend called Maho, as well as Anri, a quiet girl who‘se parents were murdered. Thanks to Maho, Nepgear manages to find new resolve and the strength to free Gamindustri from the Trendi Outbreak, but Maho also bears many terrible secrets that threatens their friendship. The story is the greatest strength of SvS. It puts a lot of care into characterization and building up characters, and has a very compelling plot that starts off very strong. The franchise has a habit of fumbling the bag with its storytelling, with the fandom often lamenting that the writing quality seldom matches that of mk2/Rebirth 2 or Victory II. There‘s been a desire for a darker storyline to come back for years, and also many debates about whether „dark“ even means „good“ or not. This game decided to put this on the test. It is a direct sequel to ReBirth 2 and even references many parts of it. If this sounds exciting to you, you should definitely buy this game. The Goddess Candidates are finally back as real characters with proper motivations. Uni finally gets to have her moments again, same with Rom and Ram. Seeing the candidates like this again was very enjoyable. As characters, the candidates tend to have to deal with loss and hardship far more often than their older sisters do, and this game manages to do this without retreading old ground. The game trades lighthearted tropes for a somber atmosphere, centering around the CPU Candidates‘ struggle. While this is all very interesting, it also comes at a cost. Neptunia is a very comedic franchise with lots of levity and funny moments. While this game does get silly from time to time, these moments are few and far in-between. In the final handful of chapters, the characters stumble from one hardship to another. The Comedy-to-Serious-Ratio is heavily skewed towards the serious side. The characters are still cute and charming and there‘s a joke here and there, but it‘s not as prevalent as in other games. Another issue this game addressed was the heavy flanderization of characters in the past. Neptunia characters became very one-note over the years, with some repeating the same old tired jokes in every game. This game however was surprisingly tame in this regard. In fact, there was not a SINGLE Blanc/Vert breasts joke in the dialogue. Noire also only mentions her loner status in an optional banter voice clip in the overworld. This game has a new team of writers which wanted to make the characters grow instead of relying on old tropes. That said, the characters are still recognizable.
Gameplay
The action gameplay in this game is addicting and fun, but it also has some weaknesses. You create your own combos in a Combo Maker menu and create discs to buff or change attributes of your combos. The disc creation is a lot of fun and adds depth to the combat system. Another cool idea are the chain attacks: When a combo ends, you switch to another character to keep the momentum going. Each character has their own strengths. If you enjoy experimenting with combos, you might enjoy this game. This game has exploitable combat and some combos and disc combinations are undoubtedly too strong, but this kind of freedom is appreciated in a game where you can create builds like this. Nepgear and friends are also a bit slow and clunky to control, but it also creates an interesting dynamic: A lot of the slower moves are very punishable, so you specifically work on your team to make them faster and stronger to avoid issues like these. The end result is often very satisfying. By the end of the game, my team was pretty OP and it felt nice because I had to develop the necessary discs for this to be the case. There are some drawbacks. The AP System from mk2 returns: the idea was that you don‘t sit around playing a single character at all times throwing out the same combo over and over. If your AP reaches 0, you are forced to do something about it. While this creates some level of depth, it‘s not without flaws. There are some battles in this game where you are fighting 1 vs 1, and if you don‘t have any teammates to switch to, you‘ll oftentimes just stand around and do nothing to get your AP back. Another issue is the blatant reuse of dungeons. Neptunia has done this in the past, but this game is particularly egregious with it. Oftentimes, you‘ll discover a „new place“ and then notice that its the same forest you‘ve already been to, just at nighttime. I think this combat system is very fun, but not perfect. Neptunia Game Maker R:Evolution came out after this game and would fix pretty much all of these shortcomings while also increasing the general speed of combat, so it has the superior gameplay. GMRE would also work on creating more dungeons, make combat feel better, have more variety for abilities and discs etc. That said, SvS laid the foundation for this combat system in the first place and I really appreciate it for that. Here‘s another annoyance: THE STEAM VERSION IS MISSING CHARACTERS. The Nintendo Switch release came out later, and added Maho and Anri (two very plot-critical characters) to the roster. There are many moments in the story where I thought „these two are clearly with me, so WHY CAN‘T I USE THEM.“ I still don‘t understand why CH/IF hasn‘t patched this version to include these characters. It also really sucks that Alice and Higurashi are New Game+ only characters, but on Switch, they are not. That said, the combat system is still very addicting. I did all of the arena fights and managed to get the achievements for fighting as many battles as possible because I was seeking out a fight whenever I could. I also finished pretty much every quest in the game, simply because I loved working on my characters. Building combos and discs is really cool and I am very happy that CH/IF decided to continue building on this concept instead of abandoning it. SvS lays a very strong foundation for action combat in the Neptunia franchise that only continued to get better and better.
Would I recommend this game?
This game has one of the better stories in the franchise, with a very emotional ending. The writing alone is probably the biggest reason to check out this game. The only issue with the writing is that the game is seldom very funny. There are some jokes here and there but for the most part, the game takes itself very seriously. It might not be the best game to play if you don‘t feel well about subjects such as war, suicide, murder, revenge, loss of loved ones etc. The gameplay is pretty fun, if a little monotonous and slow at times. While future games in the franchise would improve this combat system, SvS is still fun to play in its own right. If you can get behind playing a lot of the dungeons over and over for quests and don‘t mind experimenting with your party to make them more effective, this is a perfectly fine game for you to check out.
Holy Nep, the story is absolute cinema! I'd even say it's the best mainline universe Neptunia story right now. Some say it's too dark and serious, but I think it keeps good balance between humor and drama, and you really can feel the high stakes (Unlike in V and VII, imo), because you actually see and being immersed in what happens if you'll lose. Also Nepgear is the main character and the other Candidates are on main roles too, that's 10/10 for me, it's like a spiritual successor to Mk2, which is my favourite game in the series. New characters are also charming and I immediately fell in love with them! Also I really glad that devs returned filler side-scenes, which were practically absent in VII, they really do help a lot to develop the characters and make the player become attached to them. Though I think they went too far with references on various recent events, I mean of course there should be references on game industry in Neptunia, but they literally made like half of these scenes just about in-your-face references, hardly even joking about them... That felt like the devs wanted to catch-up with all what happened in real life between the releases of VII and SvS. But I like how you, as a player, feel yourself kinda weird in this changed over the years world, as much as the Candidates feel the same way because of story reasons. Well, the story is awesome and 10/10... But there's also, of course, gameplay too and it feels weird. Firstly I didn't like it at all, the combat felt extremely long, clunky, unresponsive and unimpactful... Then I learned about reimagined discs mechanic and how they're affecting combat. The most important things you should have for every character are cancel perks for every type of attack, so the attack chains won't take 3 to 5 business days to be done. And with that the combat suddenly feels decent, but it's still very primitive and basically consists of one button mashing. Also it's not helping that at least on a first playthrough the game is extremely easy, you really should TRY to loose here (And for the true ending you need to loose a couple of times to reduce your Shares... So yeah, I literally waited several minutes for monsters to kill a single character with lowest health and without armor). But, again, with discs combat feels decent and entertaining, the animations are not bad (Though I'd want to turn-off the slow-mo/time-stop that happens every damn combo) and pretty satisfying. But there's no nearly such depth in combat that were in the turn-based games, and it's honestly kinda disappointing because even if they did want to make action-oriented combat, they still could add way more depth to it. And lack of depth is a big problem of this game, because it really feels like it was extremely rushed and made on a budget of one NepBull can, or all of the budget went into making Planeptune hub location (Which is awesome, btw). Neptunia games always were low-budget but this is low even for this franchise, the game feels very cheap and cut down, also it's very bugged. I honestly think choosing Unity as engine wasn't a very good idea, also I don't really like how the game looks sometimes... It has this problem, that most of modern anime-stylized games have, that the characters are out of place in the visuals of the environment, and their skin shader making them look like they're glowing or something, I personally don't like this trend, I think that previous Neptunia games looked way better in terms of consistency. Also I want to mention that the locations here are not very good (Besides Planeptune)... They're too big and empty, also every location really feels like just a couple of corridors and rooms repeating over and over, there's no level design at all. Even in older Neptunia games the locations were better or at least they were small enough to not be annoying. Also there's now "puzzles" where you should find a switch to open the gates or sometimes move big boxes on marked points... These aren't really puzzles, just an annoying waste of your time. So, after story section this review looks like I didn't like the game, but the amazing story really carried it for me, also gameplay turned out to be entertaining enough. The main problems are cheap feeling and locations, but overall I liked the game way more than I didn't.

《Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters》
Mudar resolução faz apenas um up/ downscale .
