«Neon Cyborg Cat Club»
Do robot cats dream of electric vaporwave?
Neon Cyborg Cat Club is a minimally interactive ambient music generator set in a dystopian future and populated solely by... non-controllable mechanical cats. You can change the colors of their eyes and tail bulbs (their tails have bulbs. Yes it's adorable.) You can switch camera perspectives from a follow cam for each cat (you can choose between 1 and 6 of them per session, and can switch them on and off) to a series of stationary surveillance style views placed around the game's single room. The cats do cat things. They walk. They run. They take naps. As they do so, they walk over floor pads which trigger musical tones consistent with the current ambient music track playing. Each cat has a backstory you can read. One is named after J.S. Bach. Outside, through the safety of the Cat Club's dim windows, can be seen smoke, bizarre northern-lights-like colors, imposing futuristic buildings, and a sickly pall signalling the end of history. All this blanketing a Blade-Runner-esque landscape. (So, not unlike most of the West Coast in real life currently, circa September 2020.)
Wait. Is that it?
What more does one need, is the real question? But in all seriousness, yes, this is effectively a slightly more interactive 3D screensaver with fantastic presentation and audio design. But with cats. And cyberpunk. And music generation. Recommended for those who wish to chill out to atmospheric cyberpunk vibes. And cats.
Developer feedback
I request more cats. Recommend changing highest graphical setting "Pretty Great" to "Purrty Great." Because cats.
Neon Cyborg Cat Club is an artistic game with a minimalist control scheme emphasizing audiovisuals. Players are to simply observe cyborg cats walk about, all the while listening to music and enjoying the scenery. Up to six cats can be spawned at once and four songs are available as the little ones do their thing.

✔The Good✔

Relaxing atmosphere
Great music tracks, becoming livelier when more cats are spawned

❌The Bad❌

Lighting is too bright at times, often enough I had to change my monitor’s settings.

Cyborg Cats, You Say?
Indeed I did. The setting is a dystopian future in which humans have ruined Earth, so much so that all animal and plant life has been eradicated. The game takes place during humanity's very own extinction by their own hands, but we’re not shown the grim fate that awaits them. Our attention is focused on one of the last active cyborg cat sanctuaries: Neon Cyborg Cat Club https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2515468714
Yes, Cyborg Cats Are The Life of The Party
The main draw for me was the prospect of robot kitties doing cat things. I was immediately interested when I learned cats would be the focal point of the game, and was rather happy to learn that my feline friends could subtly influence the music by simply walking over the floor panels. These panels also illuminate when stepped on, adding more light to the room. Some of the panels only stay lit while pressure is applied, while others will turn on or off when a kitty passes over them. This contributes to the visuals and adds to the ambiance. However, the lights are a little too bright for my taste. The window that allows light from the outside to shine in also differs in color depending on the song selected. There are four songs and four different color schemes total, each of which adds their own unique flavor to the room. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2515468309
Musical Cats With Lovely Soundtracks
As I’ve said above, these robot cats can subtly influence the music. Depending on how many of them you spawn, sounds will be added to the background track as if keys on an electric keyboard have been pressed. More cats running amok means more alterations to the music, which is awesome. The fact the cyborg kitties contribute to the soundtrack is so wholesome and I love that it has been included as a feature.
💻Performance💻
My Specs: CPU – Ryzen 9 3900X GPU – AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT RAM – 16 GB 288-Pin DDR4 Storage - HDD

[th]Technical[/th] [th]Value[/th]

Average Frame Rate The game maintained a steady 80 – 120 fps for me, fluctuating erratically when I would change the camera angle. The frame rate would go as low as 45 but stabilized within a few seconds when I stopped changing angles.

Graphical Setting ”Pretty Great” setting (max setting available)

Bugs
I encountered only one small bug on three separate occasions. The cats follow a certain path, it seems, as I’ve had instances where some of them would endlessly walk into a wall or fixture. I figured removing the confused kitty and enabling it again would fix its pathfinding but disabled cats remain where they were when put back into action. This is because the cats don’t despawn when disabled, but are instead shaded out of sight and stay in place. When enabled, they become visible again and continue what they were doing. In cases like these, a reset is needed to get them back on the right track.
Overall Thoughts
Neon City Cat Club is a very simple game with little interaction needed from the player. As it’s less of a game and more of an interactive wallpaper, you won’t receive any gameplay value in the traditional sense. It’s fairly priced for what it is, and I’m pretty sure it could run on very low-end systems with no issues. The one thing that got me questioning whether or not I should recommend this game was the lighting. It may sound like a small issue, but considering this game relies heavily on your viewing experience, this was almost a deal breaker for me. Lowering some of my monitor’s settings helped a little bit. The game looks great otherwise and has a solid soundtrack, so I can safely say it’s worth picking up. Neon Cyborg Cat Club isn't a game, it's a unique and relaxing experience. This game takes place in a post-apocalyptic city where robot cats are keeping a club alive by running over sound buttons on the ground to make music for you. There is a maximum of 6 robot cats that you can spawn and have running around the place. Each cat has its own color, name and personality. Sadly enough, you can't interact with them, but you can follow them around! You can also choose between 4 different music styles and each comes with its own mood and weather. The game runs smooth, the graphics are good and the atmosphere is well captured. The blue mood is my absolute favorite music style as it comes with a stormy weather, and I love listening to the rain and thunder. Overall, a cute and interesting experience and that's not just because I love cats! ฅ/ᐠ。ᆽ。ᐟ\ฅ
This is great to have one a second monitor with headphones on while working on something. It's even got it's own dystopian plot to go along with it. Brilliant.
Super comfy and atmospheric. Music is killer, reminds me of 80s cyberpunk anime
I bought this game because it seemed like it would help with my severe anxiety, My aim was to relax and fall asleep to it. Well for that it works good enough, I'm not gonna knock that. I like the rain mode, but there's like a mode for waking up too it's nice. The problem is is that while I sleep the cats glitch out and stop moving. You might think "so what?". Well the cats have to walk over these neon pads for the music to happen, so you're left with dead silence. So when I wake up 3-4 hours later (I hate my metabolism) I have to get up and reset the game instead of hearing the nice relaxing music that would, SHOULD be there to lul me back to sleepy land. I would give this game a rigorous 2 thumbs up if it weren't for these cat glitches. Cheap and enjoyable. Devs if your reading this, fix your damn cats so I can SLEEEEEEEP!
Does a better job of delivering on its promises than Cyberpunk 2077
I leave it on all the time for the music and because it adds some nice ambience to my room.
Beautiful game, the vibrant colors really add to the vibe of the game, though the lights are a bit too bright for my tasting. The cats all have different personalities and are fun to watch. I can't wait for real cyborg cats
