Neon Aileron is a shoot 'em up for people who are bad at shoot 'em ups. Enjoy the forgiving gameplay and 16-bit era graphics while shooting lots of enemies that spawn to the soundtrack!

Neon Aileron is a fun shoot 'em up sidescroller with an armed flying ship. The game comes with 7 challenging levels and on each level a more challenging boss. The bosses have parts which you have to destroy, you don't need to destroy all parts in order to destroy the part that destroys the boss, but if you destroy all parts then you get more points. Gameplay is also a bit fast paced which is good for these kind of games. Another good part of the game is that it supports local co-op or remote play together on steam. The game also includes 5 different weapons and a super weapon. My personal favorite weapon was the thunderstrike. It's not a bad game, what could make it better are more levels. https://youtu.be/qNGb-98PxZ0

This review was made possible by IndiePromo. I received a reviewing copy of this game for free. However, my review is honest.
Skip to the bottom for my Final Thoughts Neon Aileron is a retro arcade-style sidescrolling shoot 'em up which is very forgiving and geared towards bullet-hell novices.
Graphics
While you may be quick to disregard Neon Aileron from the Steam store page screenshots, I was pleasantly surprised with how the graphics looked in game. The actual character sprites, such as the player's ship and enemies, are done in pixel art and aren't too special. The bosses look pretty cool, and the backgrounds to each level are very well done and differ greatly from one level to the next. However, the character models don't have much variation between levels, and many of the same enemies carry over. Overall, I'd say that the aesthetic of the game is nice, and matches the music well. I will have to shoutout Level 3, which gave me Outrun vibes which I enjoy very much.
Audio & Soundtrack
One feature Neon Aileron flaunts on it's Steam store page is a "synchronized soundtrack", in which the enemies spawn in to the beat of the music. While yes, this may be true, it isn't really *too* noticeable, except for in level 4. The music itself, however, is very well done. If you're a fan of 80s synth music, then you'll probably enjoy the music in Neon Aileron.
Gameplay
Neon Aileron describes itself as "a shoot 'em up for people who are bad at shoot 'em ups". While I wouldn't describe myself as "bad" at shoot 'em ups, I'm not necessarily the greatest and I haven't spent much time with them lately. However, the developers were spot on with that description. Neon Aileron is less of a dodge every projectile or face immediate death, but rather, is more of a leisurely SHOOT 'em up, with a strong emphasis in the shooting. The boss fights are fun, but can get ridiculously easy if you stack powerups and save your Special for the boss. There are three different pilots, each with their own unique ship and abilities, that you can choose from. My favourite is "Duane Jersone", and he comes equipped with an A.I drone that pretty much aims for you. There is also an online leaderboard, which is where most of the replayability comes in.
Storyline
Neon Aileron, at the time of this review being written, doesn't actually have a storyline. However, the developers have stated that they are releasing a story to go along with the game sometime in January of 2020 (New Year's resolution, right?), so as of now only an Arcade mode exists. It has around 30 minutes of gameplay if you beat it, which I managed on my second try.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I can say without a doubt that Neon Aileron has potential... BUT I would wait until the story mode releases before purchasing. The price tag isn't too outrageous, but with the current 30 minutes of gameplay before replay... I would just wait out the rest of January. But, to give credit where credit is due, I could argue that this game is a hidden gem. It's a nice, relaxing shoot 'em up that is beginner friendly, and has some nice tunes to boot.
Follow our curator for similar games
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/ Side scrolling bullet hell + boss fights + retro design = Fun SHMUP to solo or play coop. Price is a bit on the high side at $12. You have 3 pilots to pick from depending on your style.
[th] Review by Games for Lovers - only GOOD local co-op games! [/th]
Nice little indie shmups, but extremely easy. Maybe too easy. The local co-op mode is a good way to introduce your gf/wife/grandma/dog to playing a shmups. Boss fights, different stages, power-ups, even one stage that disables your guns and forces you to kill your enemies by crashing into them. You can finish the game on normal difficulty in 30 minutes, or switch to hard difficulty with the damage set to 1-hit to have a challenge.
Amazing & very playable Side Scrolling shoot em...The game is full of bugs lol and creepy insectoid Aliens. great retro graphics, 3 Pilots too choose from, 3 difficulty levels Easy, Medium, Hard, nicely designed stages to blast through, cool weapons and charge super weapon, Awesome bosses & enemies and superb music. Perfect smooth controls, Highly recommended for beginners...LOVE THIS GAME :) well worth buying and excellent work guys...BOTH THUMBS UP!!!

Maybe there's no point in me writing this review, since the developers never did anything else and then vanished, but I'll do it anyway. i like old-school shmups more than bullet hell games, so I was intrigued with this game described as "the shmup for those who aren't good at shmups". Well, it's true, it has no absurd bullet patterns or convoluted scoring systems, it's a nice 16bit-style game with no bugs or other problems, unfortunately it doesn't have much else going for it. The devs mentioned they wanted to implement a "Story Mode" but then went silent so I guess we're never going to know it it would've changed anything. Pros: + Nice clear graphics with no slowdowns or other problems, the giant insect/bug/arachnid theme (think Darius meets Insector X) is nice too and not over-used. + The synthwave soundtrack is cool and quite good. In some stages the enemies seems to appear to the beat of the music! + The novelty system of the bosses having multiple parts is fine, especially when they have some annoying attacks, so you can focus on the part that does them to blow it up first and then milk the main body for points. + A few funny achievements that are relatively easy to get. Cons: - Dull and monotonous. Almost all stages are empty space with enemies coming out of nowhere, and the one that does something different (ram into them while avoiding lasers) is not interesting enough. - Keeping the super attack until the stage's end and unleashing it against the bosses makes some of them ridiculously easy, even on higher difficulty levels. - The scoreboards don't work anymore so there's no point in going for the high score. - It's incomplete since as stated above the Story Mode was never released. Nice if you enjoy simple old-school shooters, but don't expect to get hooked to it.
The price is exceptionally high for this game and the content you're provided. A Story mode is upcoming, and that might provide a bit more value than what is currently on offer. This is a traditional shoot'em up, akin to R-Type and Thunderforce if you remember the Genesis era. The graphics are the standout feature of the game, despite there being a very limited amount of enemy types. Music is good, but never felt quite right for the gameplay. Occasionally enemies pop in with the soundtrack which is pretty cool, but I found it barely noticeable as I played. It's very short, about 30 minutes from start to finish. That being said, the game is enjoyable... Just priced too high.
“Do you hate insects, find pest control enjoyable, seeking revenge against an insect-assault, dream of preforming genocide on the insect race? Then here is your satisfaction. ” - Indie Bugle Steam Group But really this game is a ton of fun. Get 3 ships to pick from that have different buffs as well play on easy, medium and hard. Each level is unique with some cool surprises like in area 51 I thought the game was broken but it actually
your'll have to play it for yourself to solve this mystery. lol
The Boss fights got me very excited they each are so different and have really cool attacks ! I am so glad I finally got to full fill my life long dream of defeating Mothra!!!
