Reviews
Alright, played over 520 hours, finished the main story 13 times and planning to play more, I'm giving this review solely from a singpleplayer perspective because that's my arcade racing kick, let's dive into the pros and cons, some of the points will intertwine for both, PROS - 1. Story: It's short but decent enough to keep you engaged. I like the characters, both the villains and the allies. They set the tone serious just enough to feel immersive but not too much so that it spirals away from the street racing vibes. The tone is balanced. 2. Cars/Customization: A decent collection for NFS, LOVE the visual customization and the uniqueness of the cars. The performance upgrades feel good too. 3. Races: Maybe not for all, but I love the offroading. So normal sprints/circuits, drifts and offroads, all are there and the tracks are fun to race on. 4. Day Night: The most creative aspect of this game I think. You can switch to night anytime. Day races are legal, on sanctioned tracks and you earn cash. Night races are the main street races with cops and traffic, they give you reputation or rep. Rep levels unlocks cars and upgrades, and cash is to afford them. A very well balanced currency dynamic. 5. Cops: Highly challenging, brutal, very aggressive and WILL ram you to oblivion. But can be evaded using tactics and specific places (ramp jumps etc.) And of course, the heat level. The rep points from night races and evading cops will multiply based on which heat level you ended the night on. It's a great risk-reward mechanic. If you get busted, the multiplied points will go away, you'll only end with the base rep. I love the thrill even though I'm unskilled. 6. Map: I think it's the BEST map in the entire series. Large, diverse, gorgeous and captured that beachside city aesthetics fairly well. The beauty truly shines in the night with neon lights and signs. It's a joy to race both in day and night time. And even outside racing, it feels good just to drive around, getting collectibles or just roam. 7. Freedom: If you want, you can skip the day races and go straight to night. Play a specific race as many times as you want whether day or night. Although the cash (day) or rep (night) payouts will be less with each consecutive replay on single session until you return to the garage and reset for the next session. Which is fair. After the first 2-3 races to get the campaign going, you're free to do whatever you want, whenever you want to play the campaign missions or just race/cruise around. 8. Soundtrack: Good, some of them hit really well, especially the vibey reggae, electronics etc. go really well with the Miami style map. Some of them are kinda meh, but it's subjective. I love the opening with KLTR - Levantate when the present day cutscene cuts back to the main garage. 9. Driving: Fun. Whether it's track, drift or offroad, it's simply just fun. Now the CONS - 1. Story/Campaign: Too short. Which is a disappointment for such a nice entry in a long time. Doesn't take long to reach the last campaign mission and it's over pretty quickly. So you don't get to have that feel of challenging the last boss with the highest tier car. More or less mid tier upgrades are enough to finish the main campaign. 2. Progression: As mentioned, no proper tiers of boss race or anything, so we don't really have any meaningful progression. You have too much freedom to unlock all the parts (except ultimate), it'll take some time but you can do it since the beginning, then breeze through everything. Other than the first NOS, no upgrade is locked behind any campaign/story mission. 3. Untapped Potential: The narrative heavily implies the presence of a "League", but we never really got to race against any proper list of this League or climb. We don't get any ultimate race like Razor or Darius. Just a few random crew races which progresses the story. Which is a shame because this game could've been perfect to be ambitious with a crew / territory system like Carbon. 4. Map: While it's an awesome map, it feels somewhat empty. Not sure if they added more traffic for the free roam in the later patches. The npc cars/traffic are there, but the only "people" you see are during the races, no people/pedestrians on the free roam. Which is a shame because again, the map is gorgeous, could've felt a lot lively with both people and cars. ---------- So yeah, that's my experience with this game. Being a 90's gamer, I loved UG2, MW, Carbon era, with Carbon being my former favorite. Dare I say, Heat is my most favorite entry in the series. It's far from perfect, but it had the potential to be the greatest. But, if you like that street racing + story + cop chase + customization package which NFS excelled in the past, I think you'll have a fun time. Highly recommended. But I guess wait for a sale.
nice
this game makes me want to street race irl ngl
troppo bello
