Speaking as someone who is a massive fan of the Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński, I can confidently say that this game does a flawless job capturing the aesthetic and essence of his work. Every setpiece in this game is a masterpiece: I honestly wish I could experience it in VR, just so I can stop and take in the scale of it all. It's not all that intense in terms of gameplay, with most of the "puzzles" boiling down to "find object: use object on other thing" akin to a point-and-click adventure game, complete with all the essential objects being confined to separate spaces, usually with all the things you have to use objects on arranged in a nice circular arrangement, and the ultimate goal of each space being to open up the doorway to the next area with a bunch of new items. Honestly, it made for a bit of a shock when the game suddenly decided to include a Simon-esque game by killing various parasites that emerge out of a still-living body covered in holes (yeah, if you have trypophobia, you're probably going to want to skip this game). It also doesn't explain any of it ahead of time, aside from an oblique reference in the lore text located on an object right next to it, but by this point you'll probably have gotten used to the more simplistic mechanics that this marginally-more-complicated mechanic will be a jolt to the system. I did also notice that there were instances of interactions that boil down to doing the same thing multiple times or doing something simple for a prolonged time, which did get annoying, but it feels justified in context with the rest of the game. This is a game that lives or dies on its atmosphere, and I personally think it really pulls it off, but I can see other people being really turned off by it. The lore is deep and borderline-impenetrable, the themes are morbid and macabre, and the visuals are grotesque and unpleasant by design, even if they are very pretty and well-made from a fidelity standpoint. You have to be on-board right from the beginning, or this won't be for you. Still, if you think this might be your jam, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Really wanted to like this after enjoying Scorn so much. Unfortunately the game has really awful UI that makes it hard to interact with. The text is almost unreadable at a couch distance due to the serif font and no text scaling options, multiple menus are broken or have unusable interactions when using a controller, most often the cursor highlight just disappearing. Pick-up interactions kinda suck cus the only indication that there is some kind of additional interaction is a tiny text change in the UI at the bottom of the screen and rotating the object always requires a trigger input. But what was the final nail in the coffin in me asking for a return was just how poorly conveyed the in-world interactions were. Spent about 40 min of my 70m playtime wandering around the second area just desperately trying to find whatever hidden interaction was blocking my progression. I still want to see this world and experience the story, but I feel like my time would be better spent watching an edited let's play instead of trying to figure out what invisible button I need to press to dispense the next dialogue. The art, sound design and atmosphere are pretty solid, animation is okay, lighting was off in some places, and postprocessing transitions were pretty rough in places, but the UI/UX and interaction conveyance towards the player is what killed the experience for me.
Honestly meh. Visually nice but there's a major bug where if you give the guy the mask early, he asks for it after and you can't give it to him and the game soft locks. According to Google "giving the mask to the crawling entity before triggering its dialogue sequence will cause the mask to fall or clip directly through it, leaving it trapped and making the puzzle unsolvable"
Very cool game. Beautiful visuals, and the alternate color palettes are a cool touch. Sound design is amazing. I played this live and some found it very scary or disturbing, but it does not have many horror elements. Not a lot of jumpscares, chase scenes, hiding, etc. If there is horror in it, it's in the visuals and the subject matter. Got through the base game in around 3 hours. I got to the very end of the DLC in 30 minutes, but I wasn't able to finish it, due to what I believe was an inventory or item glitch (frustrating). At full price, skip the DLC unless you really love the experience and want to explore another mini section of the same kind.
