the real doom vr game you hoped for this game is amazing reminds me of robotron meets doom but with a pinball esque multiplier system i got up to 134,000 x multiplier lol gameplay 2 update only solidifies the deal further with chrono mutator points that let you start over but level up base stats like damage, reward, skull boost, diamond and a few others works great in vr with full locomotion the first iteration gave me sickness but thats all gone now 100% buy for vr or 2d
I have really had my monies worth out of this game, it cost me £1.69 and so far I have had over 5 hours of gameplay fun out of it. This is a sci-fi horror game that reminds me a bit of the film 'Virus' (The Donald Sutherland one). The game plants you in space with your trusty guns by your side, you shoot your way through the blood thirsty Thanatoids (genetically mutated humans) sector after sector until you can complete 10,000 levels. You can jump to harder sectors if you want to, just make sure you have the right arsenal in order to complete the harder levels. I suppose in a way this game is a wave based arena sector shooter (if such a genre exists). In short, I am really enjoying it but I also think it will sit well with horror enthusiasts and probably not so much with non horror fans. My video of the first 25 sectors - https://youtu.be/vsfIJjn_JlA

I'll be honest: if you like what you see in the trailers, you'll like the game. I find myself wanting to play more just for the bizarre enemy designs alone. If Killing Floor and Binding of Isaac had an unholy, crack-addicted baby, this would be that game. Hardcore gorecore. Got it for $1.75 CAD - money well spent.
At its best in short sessions
This game is great. It combines Mystery Science Theater styled monsters with quick little action packed levels in VR awesomeness. Necro Mutex by game developer Denormalizer feels like it has been unfairly overlooked by just about everyone. As of writing, the game only has twenty-one reviews on Steam. I’ve seen overpriced lootbox micro-DLCs with more happy players than that! It’s a shame, because Necro Mutex is something truly special when it builds itself up. This game looks ridiculous and I mean that in such a good way. The enemies look like they’re ripped out of an old B-Movie set warehouse and just told “Kill!” and they’re doing their dang best, even the little vaccuum cleaner robots and the floating eyes, and gosh dangit I love this game’s visual style. The levels do get a bit trite after playing for a while, but I won’t hold it against the developer because they do feel like good alien spaceships or whatever the plot is trying to tell me these things are. Necro Mutex is a game that thrives on the players want to improve. It uses a permanent upgrade system, where we try to earn points by getting through levels at maximum speed and carnage. The currency we earn is spent on new guns and passive skills, things like “this gun will do 2% more damage on headshots” or whatever suits the players style. While we start weak, older levels become much easier to just burn through. I do feel like the controls in VR are a bit tricky to figure out, despite how much I love what I’ve played. Turning is a bit difficult, and the menu doesn’t really explain the difference between the different rotation settings. Fortunately though, there are multiple rotation and movement settings. I am definitely going to recommend Necro Mutex on Steam! A friend gifted it to me on a hunch I might enjoy it during the last Steam Summer Sale when it was very, very cheap. So thank you friend! Pretty impressive! This is like Doom or Serious Sam with rogue-like elements, many perks and weapons to unlock and upgrade. It's very gory, with hoards of monsters and some environmental hazards. The main objective on each level is to reach the escape pod within a time limit, while trying to survive and killing as many monsters as possible to increase the reward. Purchase upgrades and go to another level. Sometimes there are secondary objectives, like defeating bosses or killing certain number of enemies. The game looks polished and runs smoothly on Oculus Rift S. It's quite a hidden gem, with a few rough edges, the biggest for me being the awkward turning mechanics. The turning will have to change! to the normal controller stick function, which right now is reserved for the weapon selection wheel so the developer is trying to come up with these weird workarounds.
I had a lot of fun with this. It's weird and bloody, and sometimes funny. It's the best VR trash I've played in a long time. You have unlimited ammo, different weapons, excellent electronic music, and there's no need to think, just shoot a lot of (small) bizarre, creepy, skinless enemies in a strange, cyberpunk-ish/industrial environment with a lot of chrome pipes. Trash though. And turning while playing seated could have been made easier. But still... I love it. :)
This game is a blood soaked love letter to early 90's shooters, except it is on straight duke nukem steroids, and caught between pain killer and system shock with a dab of quake's strogg a bit, so far so good so why haven't you bought this yet?
Here's a video review of the game! (TL;DW - You need to buy it) https://youtu.be/EHCs5syUolE
Necro Mutex is a free to play VR shooter game that has long playability. Worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Says it with work with Oculus Rift and WMR systems. Had 38 steam achievements. Get this free game now.
