Nancy Drew®: Curse of Blackmoor Manor

I love the magic and alchemy theme in this one! Some of the puzzles are a little tricky and I needed to look up some hints, even on my 3rd play through. It's been a few years since I last played it, okay? Still probably my favourite Nancy Drew game.

There's a surface perception that these Nancy Drew games are for kids, but I'll tell ya, the puzzles aren't for the faint of heart. Get out your notepad and pencil for these games. The puzzles are elaborate and take a long time to find all the elements, figure out what to do, and then execute. I needed the hint generator to get through it (if you don't know already uhs-hints.com is outstanding for giving hints only. This site has been around forever and has most PnC games). Another plus is that many of these games are older and can be played on dinosaur computers. They are well worth the brain tease and a lot of creativity in writing and art are put into them. I've read that the newer ND games aren't so great but this one is one of the oldies.

Весьма жаль, что нет в библиотеке официальной локализации на русский язык. ИМХО, но оригинал мне не особо нравится: часто слышно как актёры озвучки зачитывают текст с листа и ставят неправильные ударения (про Глюкозу в русской локализации могу сказать то же самое, но вот остальные актёры стараются и кажутся мне НАМНОГО лучше оригинала). Не могу после захода в игру просто продолжить её: постоянно надо загружаться, опять же, с русской версией от Нового Диска такого не было. Почему она отсутствует в библиотеке -- мне не ясно. В остальном могу сказать что это абсолютный шедевр золотого века компании Her Interactive. Весьма жаль, что последние их игры это смесь кривой реализации инди и плохого движка с посредственной графикой. Играйте в старые игры, господа. It’s quite a pity that there’s no official Russian localization in the library. IMHO, I don’t really like the original version: you can often hear the voice actors reading straight from the script and putting the stress on the wrong syllables. (I can say the same about Glukoza in the Russian localization, but the rest of the actors really put in effort and sound MUCH better to me than the original ones.) I can’t just continue the game after launching it — I always have to load it again. This issue didn’t exist in the Russian version by Novy Disk. I have no idea why it’s missing in the Steam library. Otherwise, I can say this is an absolute masterpiece of Her Interactive’s golden age. It’s a real shame that their recent games are a mix of clumsy indie execution and a poor engine with mediocre graphics. Play the old games, ladies and gentlemen.

Game crashed

Definitely one of the more challenging Nancy Drew games I have done. I haven't played this in so long so it was fun to go down memory lane with the recent Steam Sale. This is one of the longer game time ND games with so many puzzles and things to look into.

10/10, played 4 million times already

I HATE this game. HATE IT. Lol! I pride myself on (as an adult doing replays of all the games) playing on Senior Level and never using walkthroughs and this one was just impossible. 3/4 of the way through the game I just gave up even trying and just used the walkthrough to get it over with. After reading the walkthrough I was saying "seriously? THAT'S what I was supposed to get from these clues? Ridiculous." I know many other players love this game but it's just not for me. Beyond the difficulty and repetitiveness of the puzzles the characters just didn't pull me in and the manor was lackluster. I love LouLou of course, and the lycanthropy angle, but nothing else. GLAD TO BE DONE WITH THIS ONE.

Equally challenging and rewarding. You must really dive deep into the game lore to decipher the clues and puzzles which are literally all over the map. I am actually disappointed that there isn't a larger thread from this game in particular that leads to a sequel, because the story is so involved and intricate that it left me wanting to explore the Penvellyn family even more. I had a hard time walking away from the game, and I often just had a hard time with the game. I would not recommend it for beginners, especially not on the senior level difficulty. But if you're familiar with mystery adventure games, there's a good chance you'll like this.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the manor and most of the puzzles. However, compared to many of the other Nancy Drew games, the controls were fairly clunky and navigating through any dialogue was slow and difficult. You shouldn't necessarily skip this one, but expect to be a little more patient with the controls.

Just finished, but I think I was following the walkthrough guideline more than 60% of the game... I liked the setting but it was quite difficult for me. Some of the puzzles were a little bit too repetitive and annoying than being interesting. As someone who's not native English speaker, I completely gave up reading all the handwritten fonts in the letters/books. I wish they kept the voice over system from the Secret of the Shadow Ranch.
