Nancy Drew®: Curse of Blackmoor Manor

I HATE this game. HATE IT. Lol! I pride myself on (as an adult doing replays of all the games) playing on Senior Level and never using walkthroughs and this one was just impossible. 3/4 of the way through the game I just gave up even trying and just used the walkthrough to get it over with. After reading the walkthrough I was saying "seriously? THAT'S what I was supposed to get from these clues? Ridiculous." I know many other players love this game but it's just not for me. Beyond the difficulty and repetitiveness of the puzzles the characters just didn't pull me in and the manor was lackluster. I love LouLou of course, and the lycanthropy angle, but nothing else. GLAD TO BE DONE WITH THIS ONE.

Equally challenging and rewarding. You must really dive deep into the game lore to decipher the clues and puzzles which are literally all over the map. I am actually disappointed that there isn't a larger thread from this game in particular that leads to a sequel, because the story is so involved and intricate that it left me wanting to explore the Penvellyn family even more. I had a hard time walking away from the game, and I often just had a hard time with the game. I would not recommend it for beginners, especially not on the senior level difficulty. But if you're familiar with mystery adventure games, there's a good chance you'll like this.

I love the magic and alchemy theme in this one! Some of the puzzles are a little tricky and I needed to look up some hints, even on my 3rd play through. It's been a few years since I last played it, okay? Still probably my favourite Nancy Drew game.

Love the Nancy Drew games I'm trying to play them all in order and oooooo there is alot. But I have always liked Blackmoor Manor because of the creepy aspect, the funny characters and the calm it brings.

Some diehard fans say this one is too difficult. I disagree, but I love this one. I played this way back as a kid. Nancy is sent to check on a friend, Linda, at Blackmoor Manor in England (don't ask where, just England). Linda doesn't leave her room, just stays in bed with her curtains drawn around all four posters. Her mother sent you to make sure Linda is alright after marrying a British diplomat, Hugh Penvellyn. Hugh is gone for work, so you are stuck alone with: Jane, his young daughter; Letitia Drake, Hugh's aunt; and the eccentric man named Nigel Mookerjee trying to write a Penvellyn book in the library. Ethel Bossiny, Jane's tutor, is also hovering around the manor trying to teach Jane and protect Penvellyn secrets. In finding out what has happened to Linda, or rather what she believes has happened to her, Nancy stumbles upon passages in Blackmoor Manor and puzzles. She is convinced that someone thought Linda was getting too close to something hidden in the manor. The passages are long and dark, which means you as Nancy often need to play with Jane for glow sticks to light the way. The puzzles are from generations of Penvellyns to protect a treasure, and the most famous of these is a network of moving rooms beneath the mansion that lead to a medieval forge. The game is beautiful in its way (dated graphics, but the people look like people and move like people, which for this time period was pretty good). There are some scares Nancy can have in this game caused by the culprit. The only thing even I balk a little at is the culprit because some of the culprit's actions are a little unbelievable once you know who it is. That said, I liked the atmosphere of this one and I come back to it a lot during the fall/winter. I wouldn't recommend starting with this one, but if you're doing a run of ND games, give this one a go for sure.

Gods, I wished I lived in a manor like this. No other Nancy Drew game I've played had this many interlocking parts, or such a great sense of connectivity between its puzzles. And these are some of my favorite puzzles in games as a whole, with the exception of the frog puzzle. Great time, highly recommend, would drop heavy weights on unsuspecting snoops again.
