Naiad feels like the perfect activity during these hot temperatures! While summer is in full swing in this game, we can swim around in different styles, dive, sing for plants and fish, reunite ducks and more. It offers a very chill experience. Just floating in the water makes you feel a lot cooler already(at least it did for me). The colors are warm and bright and remind me of childhood days at the local pool that I often visited together with friends and family. The game mentions early that it is recommended to play with a controller, but I did fine with my keyboard as well. I can see that it would be an overall even better experience with a controller. Here, we float through a river and have to solve different puzzles that so far, had been easy from the looks. But I haven't played that long yet, and I assume that there will be more complicated puzzles further ahead. A little cloud seems to be accompanying us on our journey through the river while relaxing music is playing. From other reviews, I could make out that it has playtime for at least 6 hours, and that seems decent too. A very good choice for your summer gaming list if you have one, and currently it is on sale too.
A very lukewarm artistic experience with a pretty coat of paint and nothing much original to say. Naiad is at its best when it’s showing off quaint little moments of silent significance or maybe providing simple one-off puzzles, but sadly this is not the norm. The game starts very slowly and tasks you with performing the same few “help the animals” quests in every river you swim down. For context, if you choose to fully ignore these optional copy-pasted chores, there is next to no game to play. There are a lot of unimpactful collectibles and secrets tied to these interactions, but I felt no inclination to hunt down any of the filler that wasn’t in my direct path. Eventually, a story begins to unfold as the game goes in the only direction in which a narrative about the beauty of nature might contrast itself. It’s another tale of “humans and pollution are bad” seasoned with a smidge of
“one day everyone will die”
and
“yet life goes on”
at the end to try and jab at your tear ducts. Even though I’m glad I didn’t give up within the first few highly repetitive chapters, I still can’t say that I was impacted by the journey as I watched it predictably unfold, all the while growing ever more tired of completing each chapter’s chores in an attempt to indulge the game and not simply fly through it.
God I wish that was me. I also would've super-recommended this game, if it was possible. - Whenever I was asked what I "want to become" when grown/finished/-, I didn't have really have an answer. My whole life I've always just said that I don't want to "become" anything; I just want to exist and 'be left in peace'. NAIAD manages to communicate everything I've been feeling into one concept. This is one of my favourite games to exist; not based on usual values such as 'gameplay loop', 'fun', 'design', 'music', etc, but the whole general vibe it gently radiates. I feel as if this game represents a huge part of my core identity, and I feel honored and relieved to finally have a reference point to better describe and express myself. I might never be able to fully express how much - or why - I see myself in this game.. But now I have an answer to what I 'want to become'... I just wish to be NAIAD. -

In my opinion, a bit too long. I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more if it was (spoiler for game length)
8 episodes
instead of
16
. Beautiful game that I'm really glad I waited for. I see myself coming back to this down the line, and all-achievements seems plausible.

I can't believe this game was the work of one person! The art was so beautiful and vibrant. The objectives were straightforward and for the most part, simple. If you wanted to delve deeper, you had the option to, but it wasn't mandatory. The game had a deep and impactful meaning. The first third of the game was tranquil and happy. Moving onto the second third personally had my heart racing and feeling sad. Finally, the last third of the game left me in tears. It will have a lasting impact on me and I have already recommended it to friends and family.
