CUSTOMIZE
Build your character, starting with a D&D inspired character creator menu. Choose your class, race, age, body type, and character traits to determine your starting stats, signature weapon, and known languages.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
As you level up in Mythscroll, you'll earn both attribute points and skill points.
Attribute points let you enhance your core stats like Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence, shaping your character’s physical and magical abilities.
Skill points can be invested into a wide variety of skills, such as Stealth, Nature, Music, and more, and further define how your character performs in and out of combat.
Whether you want to talk your way out of danger, scale cliffs, cast spells, or sneak past enemies, your build choices open up different paths through the world.
FILL OUT YOUR COMPENDIUM
Each time you discover a new place or encounter a new creature in Mythscroll, it is recorded in your compendium. This growing archive provides vital knowledge to guide your journey, offering insights into the regions and places you travel through, as well as providing valuable information about finding, understanding, and fighting the creatures who dwell within them.
(Creature pages blurred to hide spoilers!)
100+ CREATURES TO DISCOVER
Across your travels you’ll meet a wide variety of fantastical and mythological beings, ranging from helpful guides and curious wanderers to dangerous foes. Each creature presents an opportunity: some can be spoken with, bargained with, or studied, while others must be fought and overcome.
EXPLORE AN OPEN WORLD WITH 40+ LOCATIONS
Fill out your map as you explore and uncover new places in the world. Discover a diverse variety of regions, including forests, plains, oceans, mountains, frozen tundra, and volcanic rock. There are unique cities and landmarks to find throughout every region, along with opportunities to encounter new creatures, events, and gear.
200+ WEAPONS, ARMOR, AND ACCESSORIES TO COLLECT
Find and collect a variety of powerful weapons, spell scrolls, shields, armor, and enchanted accessories. There are many ways to acquire new gear:
Finding it in the world (in chests, caves, etc.)
Buying from merchants
Completing quests
Asking people or creatures you encounter to give you their gear (if you have a high enough charisma stat)
Robbing merchants or creatures you encounter
Defeating people or creatures you encounter in combat
50+ SPELLS TO LEARN
Mythscroll offers five unique schools of magic available to certain classes: Musical (Bards), Holy (Clerics), Nature (Druids), and two Mage paths: Dark magic and Elemental (fire, water, ice, and lightning) magic.
TURN-BASED COMBAT
Choose if and how you want to attack each turn based on what weapons you have equipped and what spells you know. You can change your equipped gear and learn and forget spells mid-combat to access different options.
150+ LOCATION BASED ENCOUNTERS WITH BRANCHING OUTCOMES
Every journey in Mythscroll is rich with unexpected events and meaningful decisions. Encounter mysterious travelers, ancient puzzles, hidden dangers, and intriguing opportunities. Each choice matters, altering your path, impacting your morality, and shaping your personal legend. Your decisions ripple outward, changing your reputation and the world's reaction to your presence.
40+ JOBS & QUESTS TO COMPLETE
Complete diverse jobs and quests ranging from small favors for villagers to epic, world-changing adventures. Solve mysteries, help (or hinder) characters, and delve into storylines that branch based on your decisions. Some quests offer unique rewards and provide new opportunities to shape your character and the world around you.
MORALITY SYSTEM
Many encounters in Mythscroll carry choices that can shape your character’s morality. Helping travelers, completing certain quests, or defeating corrupt creatures will raise your standing, while acts like robbery or harming innocents will lower it.
Your morality influences how others treat you. Those of high virtue, such as knights, guards, or angels, will turn hostile if your reputation sinks too low, and some quests may only be available at specific morality levels.
CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE LEVEL
Mythscroll offers three difficulty modes tailored to different playstyles. The default mode of the game provides a classic, challenging experience: when defeated, you lose some gold and one item before awakening in the last safe zone.
For the boldest players, Permadeath Mode raises the stakes even higher, as your save file is deleted if your character dies.
Players looking for a more relaxed adventure can choose Kind Mode, where only gold is lost upon death (and at half the usual amount). Kind Mode also grants a 30% XP boost for faster progression, raises the legendary creature encounter rate from 3% to 5%, and provides passive HP and mana recovery (2% per turn while traveling or waiting).
Both Kind Mode and Permadeath Mode can be selected during character creation, though only one can be active for a character at a time. Kind Mode may be toggled on or off at any time using the smiley face icon in the top-left corner of the screen, while Permadeath is permanent once chosen.
HAND PIXELED BACKGROUNDS
The game includes dozens of hand pixeled backgrounds to represent each area in the game. There is an "Immersive Backgrounds" setting option that allows you to toggle between having the full size pixel art backgrounds on, or just having a clean and simple black background.

I wanted to enjoy this game but I do not like losing my items when I die please add an option to take away this feature.
D&D text adventure meets Oregon Trail. Super chill time, good vibes images & music. Great for a relaxing afternoon (until you get cocky & a bandit steals your sword at the start of a playthrough, but thats on me xD). I streamed this game on Twitch & it made for a fantastic stream game as well.
TLDR: This game has solid bones and could do with a tad more polishing and more fleshing out in terms of adding lore even if that would be sparse it would reward the player for exploring and be something to seek out. The game is fun to play and the encounters are varied, some are more repetive than others but I did not find this offputting, most of the time you gain something out of it, either a resource, gold a new weapon. I recommend this game to anyone who like these types of games. Long version: Enjoyable game. THE GUI functions really well, easy to pick it up quickly. I love the map system, pick anywhere you want to go and you will head towards it with a series of encounters until you reach your destination- no fixed paths! There are repetive encounters but can often have variations such as a merchant encounter might be interested in what you might have to sell or a bandit attacks you and you attack back and they flee. You can learn about other places on the map through encounters with NPCs you run into on your travels, they sometimes give you an item if you ask or gold if you ask them but sometimes they refuse. But I found the RNG is fair. Although on my first play through an enemy stole my sword and ran off with it so i didnt have a weapon to defend myself lol. But you can flee combat, easier with lower ranked enemies. There is a compendium that records enemies you encountered and list their strengths and weaknesses and stats, also info about locations which give you the level range of enemies there and danger level (important to look at early in the game) and lastly factions. You can attempt flee from combat at the start and during, you have a speed stat which i think might be baked into the character type you choose. But that stat influences how well you can flee (and carrying too much weight can also can negatively affect your speed too and also in combat some creatures who are slow- that plant creature for example you sometimes get a bonus attack because you are faster. I found the combat fair and during it you can go into your inventory and consume food or potions to restore health or mana. I didnt feel combat was unfair like i have found in other similar games. You have armor, combat skill and weapon damage all in the mix. Some of these stats can get a temporary (timed) boost as well such as touching a rune or other ways. The game auto-saves with every choice so no worries on losing progress if you have to end your session at anytime (always a big plus). It is fairly easy to earn/obtain gold, and find food. You can rest anywhere to restore some health but always a chance of a hostile encounter as per usual with these type of adventure games. So you dont have to worry about running out of food or potions. There is no hunger system, no need for one. I am glad. Your carry limit is 200, this might be based on your character you choose at the start I dont know? Would be interesting if it is. The negatives: However the game does seem to lack lore (either learning it from unique characters or item info) and there is no way to know what type spells are when buying them eg. holy, nature, element. Although the names of them offer a clue. Quests that have a destination (eg. take x to y) really needs to mention the destination (which it does intiially when you first get it) in the quest info when you select in the list of active ones..but if you forget well good luck. Of course I havent explored all of the map yet but have played enough of the game to understand the gameloop and get a feel for the game to write a review. I recommend this game to anyone who like these types of games.
SO far this game is really well done. easy to pick up and learn how to play. a little hard to learn how to fight properly or where to go to find the level scaling. Overall what i have played i have enjoyed and will continue to play it and learn more as i go
I am enjoying playing this game. It took me a bit to figure out the mechanics of the game but this was most likely due to me not reading the directions at-all. Even after skipping the directions I was able to figure out what I needed to do. There are plenty of different options to play and ways to configure your characters. So far I have found the game very enjoyable.
It didn't work for my system but the dev was prompt to inform me of the issue in the forums. I'd recommend and hope it works for you.
Lovely. Very relaxing but also intriguing. Really appreciated the thought and effort the developer put into making sure you can get started playing right away with clear instructions. Intensity level is perfect for clearing head space.
Very charming game with a fun character creation system and simple but varied gameplay loop. It is a game that I will keep coming back to in the evenings while the day winds down. The music is relaxing and fits the vibe well.
I love the concept, I love the background music and I even love the UI and the way the game is set up overall. What I HATE however is that this game is 100% RNG. 0% Skill and 0% based on your choices. Every decision you make it just a dice roll. Ugh. If I want a random number generator, I have a pretty vivid imagination and I can just go to any free random number generator website. https://youtu.be/GMqhORMoBw4 Maybe it's just not for me, but I like to feel like the choices I make and what happens is based on a little more than just a random number every single time. NOT RECOMMENDED. ..Unless you just love games based on 100% luck, I'd give this game a pass, especially at this current $13 USD price tag. You can buy some pretty damn nice dice for less, JS.
So, first hour in and It's been fun. biggest issue is the first quest I picked up doesn't seem to let me finish it, I'm supposed to deliver someone to the Capital City but when I click "Drop off Merchant" it says "you drop the merchant off safely in the Capital City" but the quest doesn't go away and I don't get any rewards, basically forcing me to abandon the quest. Still great despite the slight hiccup. Edit: Also for some reason even though I bought the game it says "Compendium is Disabled for the Demo" unless you click the box in a very specific way.. weird.
