Wonderful mystery on a space station, which has seen better days. As Edward Locke, we are a repairman, who is investigating a murder, the murder of our predecessor, Oakely. We visit strange locations, meet interesting characters and learn a lot, not only about the possible perpetrator but about flora and fauna, life on the station.... Gameplay is simply point & click, beautifully handdrawn graphics, clever puzzles, some easy - others more asking for your little grey cells.. I loved every minute in the game. Highly recommended, don't miss this!
Graphic adventure game, mystery, science fiction, detective, puzzle, 2D, hand drawn. PLOT Edward Locke is a mechanical engineer, at first glance he seems a bit strange because he always wears a suit and helmet; due to an accident that happened a long time ago he is forced to stay closed in this armor to stay alive. His adventure begins as soon as he lands on Space Station 52, he is shown the various machines that need to be restored to working order. He immediately gets to work but the day starts badly: he makes a macraba discovery, hidden behind the panel of a ventilation machine, he finds his predecessor Oakely dead. Who can hate a mechanic so much that they want him dead? Edward wants to find out what is happening in this strange place populated by bizarre people. As he investigates, collecting evidence and suspects, he discovers that a ruthless serial killer is killing the inhabitants, as a symbol he leaves a key in the wound on each of them. Following the killer's trail in a world of suspicious subterfuge and ignoble jobs, he will also learn things about his past, truths kept secret..... Will Edward be able to bring justice by handing over the real suspect? It is important to find the exact connection in the suspect table otherwise an innocent person will die! GAMEPLAY Point and click adventure, with hand-drawn drawings, I think the graphics are intentionally made a bit rough and stylized to better represent the space station: in fact it seems like a place abandoned to itself with a shop without goods, the dock of the port without boats and alleys reduced to landfills for scrap. The puzzles are not many, some are simple, while others require more effort. I recommend that while you are looking for clues, observe everything, just use the space bar, it shows you the active points, pay attention to the objects where you see a gear near the pointer, each observed object will earn you points that will be used to furnish the Apartment with style, you will find all the most interesting objects in the game. The protagonist will write down the suspicious people and what they have in common in a Noticeboard, this will be useful to you at the end to consult to understand who is the culprit, if you make a mistake you can always try again. The music is suitable and in perfect harmony with the Noir genre, it is inspired by the Blues, a real swinging soundtrack that is pleasant to listen to. I recommend it, the plot is interesting, full of mystery and quite long, in fact there are 8 chapters + the last bonus chapter. I recommend this game if you're just in it for the puzzles and to look at the visuals. Don't get me wrong, both of those aspects of this game are good! It falls apart if you look at the story, however. In my opinion, a point-and-click game relies heavily on the story to make it good. Vague spoilers from here on. [spoiler] Most of the story feels disjointed and all over the place, but I thought it would wrap itself up by the end and it would be understandable. The ending was worse. It felt rushed, tacked on as a final thought, and ultimately made things more confusing. Nothing was explained, and even intentionally going for the wrong path doesn't give you anything substantial. Another game that needs more reviews! I really liked this point and click puzzle adventure game. The painted artwork is absolutely beautiful. The voice over acting was well done. The story was a fun noir-like murder mystery set on a space station where the engineer turned detective is a bit of a mystery himself. There were a couple tricky bits, but the game puzzles on the whole are very fair and quite doable, fitting in with the story of an aging station and a mechanical engineer. There are manual saves as well as an autosave. You can decorate your apartment with collectibles received from clicking for information on items in the scene. That was a nice touch and nice to get a reward for all my clicking! I recommend this to point and click adventure game fans. This was a very fun game and I would love to see another from this developer!
What a delightful game! Space Station 52 is a very creative murder mystery that is presented in a point and click format. The art is unique, the voice-overs are well done (I especially liked listening to the main character) and the story is interesting enough to make you want to keep playing. You control Edward Locke - a space maintenance guy who arrives to find his predecessor murdered. You then loop through areas of Space Station 52 to look for evidence and meet/interview potential suspects. There are puzzles and quite a few 'find and use' exercises which range from simple to head-scratching. For me, a pencil and paper were necessary (which I never mind, as note-taking while gaming is an old habit). There are collectibles in the form of evidence, doodads, and moxie. Evidence is uncovered by clicking on specific hot-spots and by conversing with suspects. Doodads and moxie are 'earned' by clicking on specific hot spots and then used to purchase items in your apartment. While there are more than enough doodads available (I ended the game with several hundred above what I needed), moxie is a different story. I don't believe you can miss any if you want to fully populate your apartment and achieve the status of 'hoarder.' The game auto-saves regularly and has a crazy number of slots for explicit saves. Hot spots are easily revealed and instructions are clear on most puzzles. I ended my first game missing one piece of evidence and about 30 moxies. So, being the Type-A gamer that I am, I immediately replayed in order to find what I'd missed. Replaying means starting your collectible counts from square-one but the game goes faster if you've made notes on puzzle solutions and remember some of the more quirky inventory uses. Most players are likely to miss two achievements that are unrelated to hot spots. Without the developer hint in the Steam discussions, serious luck is needed to stumble upon them. I highly recommend Murder on Space Station 52. It is obviously a labor of love by a small development team and they did a remarkable job. I hope to see more from Made From Strings in the future!
For me, it's a thumb sidewards case. The visuals are special for sure. The game has too many mini games - by far - though, and I wasn't always sure what to do in those. Some were solved by chance, and I had to look up one of them. So, if you like the style, and don't mind some mini games and then some more, or if your fun isn't spoiled by looking up some solutions (I hate it!), I'd say go for... playing the demo first, and then decide! Runs all fine natively under Linux.
really loved playing this game
Murder On Space Station 52 is a point and click traditional puzzle game with some interesting elements marred by a very poor ending. Pros Fun puzzles that usually make sense Good voice acting most of the time A unique setting with some cool world building Solid story until the ending Cons The ending is awful, nonsensical and feels tacked on the rest of the story it's just... so bad I can't put into words. Feels completely rushed and disjointed. Some puzzles require ridiculous adventure game logic to solve but not often. The overall experience of Space Station 52 is a fun one. Figure out who the killer is, find clues, solve puzzles have some really entertaining and funny dialogue exchanges. It's just the ending that mars it from being a classic and may well stop your experience from being as positive as it could be
