MULLET MADJACK feels like someone took a 90s anime, a boomer shooter, an arcade machine and an absolutely unhealthy amount of caffeine and somehow turned them into a video game. The basic idea is completely insane: you have 10 seconds to live, and the only way to keep going is to kill enemies and steal more time from them. So naturally, the game has absolutely no interest in letting you relax. Everything moves at full speed. You're shooting robots, sliding around, smashing through rooms, picking upgrades and desperately trying to keep your timer from reaching zero. You make one mistake and suddenly you're staring at the screen wondering how you managed to die in approximately 0.3 seconds. The 90s anime aesthetic is also incredible. The colors, character designs, cutscenes and soundtrack make the entire thing feel like some lost VHS anime that your older cousin would swear was “way better than modern stuff.” The game even leans into that nostalgia with its old-school presentation and virtual 90s PC-box gimmick. And the community is exactly what you'd expect. Speedrunners treating every level like it's an Olympic event, people posting completely ridiculous kill combos, players arguing about the best upgrades and everyone collectively discovering that apparently going faster is always the correct answer. There's also something deeply satisfying about replaying a level and realizing that you can do it faster than before. Eventually you're not just playing the game anymore — you're memorizing rooms, enemy placements and routes like some kind of deranged anime protagonist. MULLET MADJACK is loud, stylish, stupid in the best possible way and completely committed to its identity. It's the kind of game that makes you feel like the coolest person alive for about 30 seconds before a robot shoots you in the face.
