Mr. Maze

Truly a masterpiece of "Low Quality" Unity games. What may at first glance seem like just another indie game thrown hastily together quickly becomes a quirky, funny story with some hilarious voice acting and just enough gameplay to make this something to purchase and playthrough. There is some serious love and attention to detail behind the sloppy-looking, slightly janky unity heavy Story Game. Worth your 2 bucks and couple hours enjoying the rediculous storyline.

Great game. I am now the Maze Meister. This is an amazing game. After all, you can't spell amazement without maze. My only complaint is that I wish this game was darker. Pitch black isn't enough. Also the volume settings are broken. I want the game to be louder please.

With a name like Mr Maze you’d feel pretty confident that this game involves solving mazes. However, I would say that the amount of true mazes is only a little more than your typical walking sim. Instead, half or more of the supposed mazes are really just mildly disguised corridors with the occasional very short dead end. While this might disappoint the maze aficionado, I think for most of us this is probably a better, less frustrating trade off. What we really have here is a story heavy Walking SIM, with the occasional extremely mild puzzle or fetch quest mixed in. Perhaps it should have been called Mr Storyline. There is a surprisingly large amount of voice acting, but most of this story is told by reading the diary entries or listening to voice recordings. The storyline is a mixed bag; occasionally funny and clever, and never so bad as to be skipped, but certainly not compelling enough to stand alone. It does however nicely break up the Walking SIM aspect of the game. The flaws include: A couple of levels that are very poorly optimized, causing massive frame drops even on a 3070 (particularly, the first level runs like a pig, around 20-30fps). Several of the levels have fairly nonsensical or even counter intuitive trigger conditions that have to be met before you can continue the storyline. There is also no controller support built in, however the Steam Input defaults work decently well. On the whole, it’s easy to nitpick this game but I do feel like the sum is stronger than the parts. Particularly if you can overlook the rough edges, this game delivers a satisfying package and makes you feel like you’re inhabiting a somewhat interesting if very bizarre world. I do not regret playing it at all, however I do strongly wish that the dev had spent a little bit longer polishing and refining what is on Steam today.
