Introducing Mowin' & Throwin' A fabulous new couch potato game. With 2 or 4 player gameplay, you will be controlling a gnome attempting to mow your lawn before your opponent. In 2 player mode, you will need to cut grass while you also collect fuel and avoid environmental objects being thrown at you by your opponent. In return, you can also use the same environmental objects to your advantage against them. These include items such as rocks, reverse portals, and fertilizer that regrows your opponent's grass along with other surprises. In 4 player mode, there are 2 teams; one person will concentrate on mowing while the other works on attacking the other players or keeping you in fuel. You will want to work out your strategies for 4 player coops. Your mower does have nitrous, be warned though, it eats fuel up at a high rate. It also has a cannon built-into your mower that you can fire bags of grass at your opponent as you cut enough supplies of grass. Let the lawn mower wars begin! Released & self-published on May 31, 2019, by the developer House Pixel Games & their first release on Steam. This adorable indie title is a casual action couch potato brawler at heart that also brings along online multiplayer to sweeten the deal (requires the use of PARSEC to utilize online play). It features a delightful graphic design, cute characters, imaginative mechanics, with 8 maps to play of various designs and difficulty. There is full controller support and keyboard support for up to 2 players. Along with hats, hats, and more hats allowing you to spruce up your character with a variety of head coverings. For Options, there is a fair assortment. Gameplay: Hint icons, pregame tutorial, vibration on/off, Choose player number & reticle sensitivity. Audio: Mute on/off, music and SFX sliders. Video: Resolution, window or fullscreen, vsync, gamma & contrast sliders. Controls: Players using keyboard settings, controller assignments per player. Such a stunning little indie title, a great addition to my couch potato collection. We have had a riot playing, it will be a regular inclusion for couch potato events at home. I would like to see more maps added to the title as they do get a bit repetitive after a while. Some additional mechanics tossed in would also be sweet, maybe some per character buffs or additional environmental dangers unique to the design of the map (similar to what's in now). We did not run into any bugs during our game's! If, you do not have friends to play with you can always use PARSEC then join their discord server to find others to play with. It has a fair price line with the amount of replayability the title has. For you couch potato lovers out here I would be as bold to say it's an instant gem! Mowin' & Throwin': Cutting Edge Couch Potato-Multiplayer Gameplay; I Mowed, I Battled, I Kicked Grass! 8/10 Pros +Competitive Gameplay +Magnificent Graphics +Innovative Mechanics +Steam Achievements +Full Controller Support Cons -Could use more Content -No Trading Cards
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. In its current state Mowin' & Throwin' feels unfinished. This is mostly due to the complete lack of AI players. If you have two friends over to play, you will be unable to all play together as you can't play any form of 2 vs 1 with one person having a computer team mate. Also the 1 v 1 is very limited in play as you have no team mate on your side to work with. So really this game is only good fun if you have 4 people who can play. There is no form of single player what so ever! No way for you to practice on your own etc. Just imagine getting a tennis game where there was no computer players, NONE! This is what Mowin' & Throwin' feels like. If at some point AI gets added I will change my review. But as of now I would really not recommend this game. If they added a simple AI to fill out teams and an ability to switch and take control of your team mate like switching players in most sports games then I think this could be very good. But as of now, being really a game that is either 4 human players or nothing, it is bad.
This s a very fun 2v2 Couch Co-op game, its extremely easy to pick up while till being fun to play despite your skill level, the level designs are beautiful and each level has it's own cool mechanics (bridges that collapse, rotating platforms, super dark level, etc). The controls are intuitive and simple enough that anyone from your 6 year old to your grandma could play this game and have a good time. The game is currently only local multiplayer but there are programs out there that will let you get your online friends in on the action. I can't recommend this game enough, if you would like to see the game in action, we made a video with some of the Dev team here: https://youtu.be/jzoLsJcbrA4
I was fortunate enough to be one the selected few to play this with some friends for an hour or so and it was an absolute blast! Definitely on that Co-op 2v2 frantic (overcooked type) level for sure. A lot has been added since we first played it, such as the interactive stages and background activities like the totem in the jungle stage with bridges that fall once the Totem is hit and so forth. The stage variations are very well implemented and plentiful. When first testing the game we only experienced one game crash, however that was fixed two or three updates ago, so this is just an honest mention and it was addressed very quickly. It would be cool to see some female gnomes as playable characters and some more customization options for the visual cosmetics of the characters but its not a deal breaker. Overall the presentation is very pleasing, including art/sound design, game-play elements, and many level options. Pros: Great Art/Sound Design Nice assortment of Levels Interactive Stages and Backgrounds Easy to follow instructions for all levels and ages and gamers Easy to pick up and play Very Co-op oriented Smooth game-play with no performance issues Cons/Area for improvement: Local Multi-player only (at the moment) No AI to play the game when you're solo More power-ups to flip the script on the game-play would be interesting Possible inclusion of female gnomes and more appearance customization options would add extra flare
This game is wicked fun. Mowin and Throwin has become my new game to play at parties or whenever my friends come over to chill. Matches are short, way too addictive. There are so many levels to choose from, the tiki head level that allows you to switch the bridges always becomes super head-to-head. If you like games like Overcooked or other couch coop games, you will def love this one.
After replaying this game after the update, I found it really enjoyable to play with my brother.
Mowin' and Throwin' is a really fun co-op experience! It reminds me of the good old days when you would go over to your friends house, or they would come over to yours, and play games throught the night. It's relatively easy to pick up and can become very engaging and competitive quickly.
I was lucky enough to meet some of the Devs in person at a PAX South convention. Lovely people. I played the game then with 3 of my friends and had a great time. Later on I tested the game with more of my friends locally at home and we all had a blast. You can watch our replay here: I'd say the best qualities of the game are the satisfaction of cleaning up an area all the while the ability to screw with the other team adding more junk and grass to theirs. It's a great party game thats easy to learn. I see that there are some concerns for no online multiplayer, but downloading parsec fixes that. Overall I'd reccomend this game if you are looking for a fun couch VS game. Easy to learn and pick up with enough nuance for varied tactics.
A really good indie party game! TL;DR: If you love couch co-op games like overcook, star whale, you will love this game also! This game can provide a fun party with a time around 3-4 hrs! It's bascially a 2v2 game about cooperation and sabotage the opponent team. you can choose to drive the kart or be the walking one who supports the kart. I like the chaos (within a certain limit) in this game. Had a fun night with my friends! Pros: 1. the gameplay is really fun for a 2v2 couch coop game. There are strategy as planning the mowing path and save some items for the proper time. There are also fun chaos time of map chaning and opponent sabotaging! 2. multiple maps and different mechanics. I actually prefer the standard map because I can focus more on sabotaging my opponent, but multiple mechanis provide diverse gameplays. Eg, the one with elevators made all of us pretty busy all the time lol! 3. Art style is my type! I love cartoony style art, and this game definitly fit my desire for cute models and animation. I also like the color theme a lot! Love greeeeeeen! 4. Music is also one of the shinning aspect! It's relaxing and lovely~ felt delight by just listen to the goofy happy music! Cons: 1. no signle player mod. This should be easy to make, but I'm not sure why it's not there. I hope they will add this mode in the future. 2. no keyboard support. the controller set up is neat, but the fact I cant use keyboard is kinda disappointing. Overall I will give this game 8/10 as a local coop party game with 4 players (controllers).
