I'll start just by saying that it is my favourite adventure (although it is much more) game. Bloodnet mixes elements of adventure and rpg. Among solving puzzles you command your small squad of friends and mercenaries in fights. There's a lot of character statistics influencing combat, decking (travelling through cyberspace), crafting etc... Bloodnet tells a story of Ransom Stark, who is trying to lift a curse of vampirism. It is dark, mature and really sucks in. Ransom will meet a lot of interesting and well written characters. While combat sequences are not of best quality, great atmosphere makes up for it. Important element of Bloodnet is decking. Improving cyberdeck will help to experience it. It is not a point and click game (you won't make a helicopter combining shoelaces and washing machine). Puzzles are interesting and logical. It is more of unraveling the story. If you like cyberpunk it is a must have. If you like vampires it is a must have.
i love this game even if its stupid and cantankerous. i did all the paths because i love to suffer the past. cybervampires
Hey, you don't look so good.
You know cyberpunk? Yeah? And you know vampires? That sounds like an absolutely kickass combination. And it seems to be. It's just a shame that the interface for this 1993 game, and the music, is absolutely awful. I wandered into a bar. A seedy place, by looks. Then, the low, repetitive electronic beat plays. Over. And Over. And Over. I recruit a half-cyborg guy called NIMROD-1. He seems cool. I go to try out the fight system in the game. So I pick on some random guy in the bar. The fight begins. Place your combatants! I place myself close to him, and try to place NIMROD next to me. I can't. Hmm. I place him to the left of me. Nope. Maybe..? Nope. I place him on the other side of the room. It works. Combat begins. Cue two and a half minutes or so of me uninteractively watching my guy exchange fire at point blank range with a mercenary. Neither of us seems to be able hit each other. NIMROD wanders over the room and slowly punches the enemy. Finally, something happens, and the enemy dies. I wish I could recommend this. The art style is cool. There's voice acted NPCs, and unique portraits for everyone, it seems. But the interface and combat seem like pretty damning things to start with, and I've heard the story is unrewarding and the puzzle aspect to the game can be nonsensical and punishing. Unless you've played this game before in the past and want to relive nostalgic memories, I would give this game a miss. I would, however, love to see a modern take on this game. With Cyberpunk 2077 and a new Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines coming this year, perhaps soon we shall.
Ever wanted to trip balls on every drug known to man and then wash it down with an 8ball of c0ca!ne while simultaneasuly eating your best friends flesh and watching Nosferatu on HIIIIGGGGHHH DEFINITIOOOOON!!!?!???!?! Then play this game because thats what a stroke feels like.
Bloodnet tries to be a lot of things and fails at it quite miserably, it wants to be a roleplaying game, but it also wants to be a point and click adventure game. its combat is some of the worst I've seen in an RPG, It's bloated and over-complicated and at times it's even hard to tell what's happening. it has a ton of character traits and stats for your character, most of them never or sparingly used. Bloodnet is the video game equivalent of a jumbled mess of different wires. But I still like its world-building and incredibly cheesy writing, it brings a smile to my face and I do personally enjoy trainwrecks like Bloodnet. but even though I feel this way towards the game, I wouldn't recommend others play it for themselves. if you wanna experience this game's wacky story, best watch a playthrough instead, this game aged like actual ♥♥♥♥ and I can't think of anyone I know off the top of my head that would enjoy something like this.
"BloodNet," a cyberpunk adventure gem from '93, still stands tall in the hearts of genre fans. This DOS classic, with its point-and-click gameplay, takes you on a wild ride through a dystopian future where vampires, hackers, and corporate intrigue rule the streets. The narrative is the star here, plunging you into a complex and atmospheric world. You step into the shoes of Ransom Stark, a former corporate programmer turned vampire, navigating the gritty New York City streets. The game serves up a diverse cast of characters and moral dilemmas that shape the plot, all wrapped in cyberpunk themes exploring the dark side of technology and corporate greed. Sure, the visuals might seem a bit retro now, but that's part of the charm. The pixel art captures the urban grit, and those digitized photographs for character portraits? It's like a blast from the '90s, adding a touch of nostalgia to the mix. Gameplay is a blend of classic point-and-click adventure and RPG elements. Solve puzzles, interact with characters, and make choices that steer the narrative. Dive into character customization, enhancing Stark's abilities and decking him out with cybernetic upgrades. Yeah, the interface might feel a bit clunky compared to today's standards, but it's a time capsule of challenging and engaging game design. Props to the sound design, too. The atmospheric tunes and fitting sound effects pull you deeper into the cyberpunk vibe. From the hum of neon lights to the distant sirens, it's all about immersion. Now, it's not flawless. The UI can be a handful, and some puzzles might leave you scratching your head. And sure, the graphics may not be cutting-edge, but for the true cyberpunk aficionado, "BloodNet" is a nostalgic journey well worth taking. It's like a relic from a bygone era, and for fans of the genre, that's pure gold.
This is an extremely underrated game. The storyline, characters, world, and especially the dialogue, are brilliant. The game's unfortunate downside is that it attempts to be an RPG... and the action completely fails at being compelling or enjoyable. That said, if you can get past the terrible RPG elements (I'm sure there must be some way to at least hack the game to make the fights less annoying) you have a rather wonderful, well written, engrossing game that's brimming with clever ideas and inspired characters. Yes the graphics are a little garish at times, and the interface isn't the most friendly, but none of the downsides are enough to ruin the excellent writing that ties the whole thing together. If you're prepared to work through BloodNet's shortcomings, you'll find an extremely rewarding adventure game underneath. It isn't that hard. Try it.
Tags: Adventure - P&C - Point&Click Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Learning curve is high. Initial turn off is high. Character is not to scale with environment. Production values are not consistent. Interactivity feels off. This does not obey conventions of the genre. Dashes in RPG elements such as character creation. You will be locked out of valid options based on your stars. You receive little guidance on what to do. The sprite for the character looks tiny compared the chairs, blood splatter of the first screen. I cant navigate out of screen, cant explore. Dont seem to have an inventory to use and do puzzles with. Examining did not allow me to select features on screen to get more information. All I managed to do was push a button from the toolbar to warp in cyberspace. In cyberspace I was spinning in on myself, moving around without a walk animation on top of a swirly backgrounds. Primitive 3D shapes of geometry warped by and I could not seem to interact with them even after bumping in them. There were a few npcs, on asked for a password I did not have, the other said I was a wanted man. The voice acting was poor quality and to a point where it detracted from the atmosphere of the game. Conclusion: Maybe there is an aweosme game buried in there but I know I am not going to get to it, I recognize some glimmers of brilliance through my nostalgia from this gaming era but it really is not coming through and I am not going to spend more time giving it benefit of the doubt. The fact that I have not heard of this product much before or seen playthrough is probably a sign that I would be correct to avoid it. Removing local content permanently and hiding from library for declutter.
