About
MotionRec is a recording-based puzzle action game built around the concept of recording and playback. Use this ability to guide Rec, the civilization-recording robot, through a devastated world.
You can record the trajectory of your movements, from walking to jumping. Use stage gimmicks to create and record more complex movements to traverse the world.
Record your movements...
...and play them back in another location!
This will let you reach places too high to jump up to, or even access spots where there's nothing to stand on. You can only play back your movements a certain number of times midair, however, and this is refreshed every time you land on the ground.
Make good use of the MotionRec ability to unravel the mysteries behind this devastated world ruled by machines!
What A Lovely Indie Gem!

Things I Like About MotionRec:

Recording Motions: You are a little robot who can record the motion and then replay the sequence to help yourself overcome the obstacles. This core mechanic easily helps the game stand out among its peers. You need to observe the level, imagine the potential solution to the platforming puzzles, find the right platforms to record the correct motion, and finally get into position to replay the sequence. It's a very interesting gameplay loop. Every level requires a different kind of finesse and imagination to complete.
The Flexibility: Even though MotionRec is a puzzle platformer, the game allows some leeway in the solutions. Try and record all kinds of motions. Any patterns can be the right solutions as long as the recorded sequences get you through the levels. It's not a big deal if you are struggling with the solution. Limited as our protagonist's mobility may be, it can still perform some simple but precise jumps to help compensate for the lacking patterns (since replaying freezes most of the level). I like this kind of flexibility MotionRec provides.
Going Through Levels VS Collecting Notes: The closest comparison I can remember is finding hidden gifts in Neon White. These two may be different kinds of puzzle platformers, but both of them share the same design philosophy. In MotionRec, music notes appear throughout each level. Some are visible, which serves as a small variable in your motion-recording. Others are tucked away in nooks and crannies that call for a pair of keen eyes and a completely different approach to motion-recording. This two-layered design in levels absolutely makes exploration rewarding.
The Levels: Other than the hidden music notes, the levels themselves are also very interesting to play through. The clues are all in the levels, and each one offers a unique mechanic to expand your motion-recording possibility: Grappling points allow you to create reversed motions by pulling you back after reaching maximum length, Play Boxes repeat your replay sequences, and Portals help you extend certain motions beyond your limit during recording. Moving platforms are great for creating specific patterns, etc.
Other Compliments: [olist]
The 1-bit art style is very clean and charming.
The retro, gameboy-style soundtracks are so good. [/olist]

Things I Dislike About MotionRec:

Some Minor Complaints: [olist]
Puzzles in mid-to-late game may have some difficulty spikes due to demanding extra precision or requiring certain obscure techniques (like maintaining height by sticking to walls).
Certain puzzles are so long for your screen that you can't fully anticipate the replaying outcome. [/olist]

If you like what I write, please consider a follow to my curator page, thanks!
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.71/day in the week to Jul 24 → 0.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Insanely underrated little puzzle game 10/10
This is a delightful little puzzle game with a really solid grasp on one key mechanic that was lots of fun to figure out. The presentation and mood are also top-notch
