Very nice, casual SF point & click adventure. Good characters and story, even though it's nothing groundbreaking. Definitely on the short side, but still a good value for its price point. I would've preferred an option to highlight all hotspots, but the game isn't too pixelhunt-ish, so it's fine. Rating: ★★★★☆
Quick Review
"Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock" is a pretty good and solid point and click sci-fi adventure that feels very reminiscent of some flash classics at times while having it's own personality. I really liked the plot and the voice acting altough far from a "AAA" standard was pretty on point and suited prefectly the game. (Playthrough/Gameplay of the game) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vcOdmSEogA If this quick review isn't useful to you maybe the following "extended version" could help ^^
The good

Good full text voice acting
Really good art style
Really interesting and original puzzles, that can get very challenging but never excesively hard.

The bad

Nothing

Things that might help you decide

Game can be completed in around 2h
Low-spec friendly game

Final recommendation / Price evaluation
This game waa an absolute surprise for me, I don't usually play this kind of games, but I'll say that this one has awaken a pretty specific desire in me for more sci-fi point and click adventures. Absolutely recommended at full price, but if you are patient you could easily get it with a 50/75% discount making it a bargain. I hope this review is useful to you ^^. The game was pretty alright! It felt like those side quests you would stumble upon in Mass Effect, except you are playing as the crew that has something strange terrible happen to them. I do have some complaints, like the piece needed for the ventilation was hard to find since I didn't notice it appearing and ran around trying to craft everything in my inventory. Then there was the voice acting, the voices themselves are fine but I think the interactions between powell and novak has room for improvement. I think the game is fine if you're getting it on sale like I did. It's short and sweet, cool atmosphere, and an interesting story. Although I hope that there might be a sequel or something to answer some questions or expand the story.
It was nostalgic playing this again so many years after I played the flash version. It works great on Steam Deck. The inventory system can be annoying when combining objects sometimes.
I remember when this was just a quaint little flash game, and now seeing it on Steam is like a proud proud parent seeing their kid graduate(after learning about it 10 years later...)! I couldn't be happier to play it again, and seeing it have some new bells and whistles attached was a pleasant and welcome surprise on top of that! While not particularly long(especially if you've already played it long ago) nor overly complicated like some point-and-clicks can be, Morningstar is like a tall glass of cool water going down a sore throat: it may go down quick, but that time is smooth and refreshing. The game is pretty straightforward in its gameplay and puzzle-solving, and I doubt you'll find yourself getting lost with what to do next as those steps are pretty well telegraphed with each piece of the puzzle you pick up throughout. The strongest point of the game has to be the creative worldbuilding, which has stuck with me the most after all this time. What the game does explore with the world and its circumstances will leave you with questions, but also plenty of interpretable answers for you to fill in the gaps with yourself. It's a creative sci-fi environment they've built here, one they should be proud of! Overall, this game is a nostalgic blast from the past that was well worth my money, and it'll be well worth yours no matter how much time it takes to finish it. I will be watching for any future works with great interest!
Simple and short point and click adventure. Smooth interface, no pixelhunt needed. Looks nice, the puzzles are fairly simple and largely logical. Base price might be a bit too much for less than 2 hours of content, but otherwise this is a good, polished game.
10/10 What do they want with Earth???????
A really great reimagining of an early internet flash game. I remember playing a long time ago, and while it is as intriguing and entertaining as it was back in 2009, there are some things I wish they kept. For one, the original Voice actors are just much better. And two, while the music is enjoyable in this game, that old Morningstar background music really sets the atmosphere for this small point and click adventure. You are missing the sauce, even with the additional story and animations. Sorry to say.
