After 1,400+ hours, I can confidently say that Mordhau is a one-of-a-kind game. I've played plenty of multiplayer games over the years, but none have offered the same level of freedom, expression, and unpredictability that this game does. The combat system has an incredibly high skill ceiling. Its also one of the biggest hurdles: expect to get destroyed for a long time. This isnt a game where you master the mechanics in a weekend. It takes hundreds of hours before you will even notice your first real improvements, and thousands before you begin to understand the depth of the combat. If youre looking for instant gratification, this probably isnt the game for you. But if you enjoy mastering difficult mechanics, the journey is incredibly rewarding. One of Mordhaus greatest strengths is how diverse the gameplay can be. You can play as a heavily armored knight, a duelist, an engineer, an archer (JK dont play archer :D), or completely ignore conventional builds and become the guy doing backflips while punching people to death. You run into fist-only acrobats, bow thieves who spend entire matches stealing enemies bows, bards playing music in the middle of a battlefield, roleplayers, trolls, and players who invent completely unique fighting styles. No two matches ever feel exactly the same. The community deserves its own mention. Yes, it is often toxic. But its also weirdly entertaining. The chat can be absolute chaos, and you can meet some of the funniest, most memorable, and most unhinged people in online gaming. Whether thats a positive or a negative depends on your tolerance for internet culture, but it certainly gives the game personality. The random moments are what keep me coming back. One second youre locked in an intense duel, the next youre witness a group of players throwing stones at a poor guy, chasing someone with a frying pan, or witnessing an entire frontline collapse because a naked dwarf somehow distracted half the enemy team. The game constantly creates stories you couldn't script. **Strengths:** * Extremely deep and satisfying melee combat. * Massive freedom in how you build and play your character. * Huge variety of viable and hilarious playstyles. * Endless memorable and unpredictable moments. * A community that is chaotic, entertaining, and full of unique personalities. * One of the highest skill ceilings in multiplayer gaming. **Weaknesses:** * Brutally steep learning curve. * You will likely need several hundred hours before feeling competent. * The community can be very toxic. * New players may find the experience frustrating without patience. Mordhau isnt a game for everyone. Its difficult, unforgiving, and sometimes outright ridiculous. But if you are willing to invest the time, you discover a combat system and sandbox unlike anything else. After more than 1,400 hours, Im still finding new tricks, meeting interesting players, and having moments that make me laugh. I cant think of another game quite like it.
I've been playing video games since 1998(the mod that banned me probably wasn't even born then!) and I've played thousands of games so I know a thing or two and I've never been muted in an online game because I violated some made up terms. I've been playing this game for 6 years and have over 2.000 hours. I've been a mod, admin in a couple of servers and I used to own my own server. It's no surprise that the devs have abandoned this game and it became unplayable. Recently, I got muted for a month in an official server. I guess there's no freedom of speech in Slovenia huh?
Unfortunately can't recommend for new players. Don't buy unless it's on sale. Pros: - One of the best melee combat systems and unique mechanics i've experienced in games overall. Easy to learn hard to master type. - Decent character customization. Alot of well designed equipment, room for fashion is wild. Variable and fun to use weapons. - I don't get why people claim comunity is toxic or something. Not exactly very noob-friendly, yes, but expirience i had was fun as hell. Everybody's constantly screaming halerious warcries all over the place, spamming gestures and playing on lute (tbh i wasn't actually looking in chat much). - Well made maps. Some better, some worse, not very much, like 5-6 actually playable, but overall they're pretty cool in terms of multiple paths, enviromental design, traps and team balance. Cons: - The game is basically dead. Peak online less then 1k. You will constantly bump into same people. Searching 10+ mins for a 20 min match on Europe server at 12 p.m. for multiplayer game it's a death sentence. - If you're new player and trying to learn how to play, you're kinda screwed. First 20 matches i had KDA something like 4/25 and thought i'm just bad and doing something wrong. But i was not. And then i realised each time i was killed, it was by the same guy with KDA 24/3 and 200 rank, while i was 6. Considering how ranking works, that dude spend something around 500 hours on this game, maybe more. I saw very little players with levels like mine or near it. Simple ranked matchmaking system would easily solve the problem, but it's already too late. The only ranking exists in 1v1 mode and guess what - of course, it's occupied with dudes with 300+ hrs and smurfs. There's no way to learn game mechanics except 5min tutorial and stupid like a cabbages bots. I can parry 20 hits from bot in a row, but what the point? Yeah, some may say 'skill issue'. Ok, but how i supposed to learn game to git gud when i constantly dying in 1-2 hits or being ganked by 3+ people? It's just not fun nor fair, why even bother then? No wonder why there's no new players, huh. - Unfit and absolutely unnecessary system for getting new stuff. You need both in-game currency and experience points, you get in regular matches, to buy accessories and weapons. In already paid game. With no microtransactions. Why????? If it was a FtP game, maybe it would be reasonable as alternative for paid cosmetics. As a result there's always 3 to 5 dudes in match just standing afk or playing lute on base and farming points while everyone else is fighting. And i would understand if it was only for fashion, but you also need to unlock basic weapons aside of just skins. - Most of game modes are boring and abandoned. Noone playing anything exept a frontline 48x48 (usually it's more like 10x10) or 1v1. No PvE mode also (Horde is just awful, tried playing it only once though). If you want actually have fun with this game you need atleast 3-4 friends to play with or you'll just give up and leave game after 20+ hrs (unless you already spent 2000 hrs in it and forget what fresh air is). - Some balance issues. Some weapons are just useless (e.g. daggers or mallets) while others is little too overpowered (maul one-shotting in head in any armor, spears are annoying). Almost nobody playing as engineer or archer. Completing team goals like capturing a zone or drag stones to load the cart have no gameplay sense or motivation to do them - everyone is just fighting in the middle of the field, brainlessly, crowd on crowd; winning or losing a match does nothing as same. Considering developers haven't updated their game for 2 years, unlikely something will change in the future. I really want to like this gaem. If only I could play it in 2020. It's jsut sad...
Simply put im not getting those 70 hours back.
Not even a good patchie can fix the community anymore.
This is like the Warthunder of Medieval multiplayer games. If you know, you know... 6 out of 10. Imma uninstall now frfr.
Would be like cooler if you could unlock new items playing solo, but uh as far as I know you can't so this gets a downvote from me
Зашел поиграть в орду спустя годы, а вместо старого режима ввели защиту нпс от бомжей с кулаками
