Once you understand that the main story progresses through the process of making friends with the town's NPCs, the game is super enjoyable ! There's a few little QoL things here and there that could be improved and have been mentionned numerous times (especially the fall festival rewards being so lowww), so I'll just say that this game makes me happy, I didn't think I would love it that much. The whole farming thing is very classic and solid, nothing too surprising, I love that some crops require special placement or extra care to achieve the best results. The NPCs have very distinct personalities which is super nice even though some of them really feel like "mandatory tokens" (mandatory jackass full of himself, at the very least). I somehow enjoy a lot to see a town so full of dramas and tea to spill 'cause most farming sims so far are too perfect, it lacks the drunk uncle and the healthy rivalry between two ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up families y'know, sometimes you want to admire the accidents from afar while sipping on your tea : Moonlight Peaks brings just that. The season changes not having a lot of impact is both a good and a bad thing to me, good because it feels nice to just plant a few berries that you know will carry over and don't require extra planting, bad because most insects remain the same despite the changes, and it's complicated to know which ones you already have or not (and it's kinda poop when you catch something that you had already 'cause it uses a relatively consequent amount of energy especially early game). Just don't do the same mistakes as I did and check the game's Reddit for help because it will upset you greatly over the ungodly amount of entitled demands from a so-called "cozy" community, forgetting that they are addressing the devs and that the devs are human beings, and that human beings feel things and may be impacted by their words. Just take the game at your own pace. You'll get there. If the story feels like it's not advancing : Keep gifting everyone, it'll do. Be chill, ffs. It's a game. Touch grass. Damnit.

Even though at first glance it might seem like just another generic farming sim riding on the popularity of Stardew Valley, after spending some time with the game I can confidently say that Moonlight Peaks stands on its own. While it definitely borrows a lot of familiar mechanics and gameplay loops from similar games (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), it also brings plenty of fresh and original ideas to the table. What stands out the most: Moonlight Peaks really shines thanks to all of its supernatural elements. Combining them with a farming sim probably wasn’t always easy, but in the end it works really well. Talking to animals, brewing potions, the card game, and unlocking spells are all super fun, and the story quests where you get to explore the magical side of the town are incredibly cute. The plant and animal designs are great and fit the game’s theme perfectly. There are tons of farm customization options, and the furniture and decorations are full of atmosphere, giving players a lot of room for creativity. I especially love that you can use pretty much every item in your inventory as a decoration. Characters and quests: One of the game’s biggest strengths is definitely its atmosphere and characters. There is a huge and diverse selection of romance options, not only in terms of personality but also their designs and ages. The characters have a lot to say, and as you get to know them better, you can see that some of them change or reveal a different side of themselves, which makes them feel much more realistic. The main story quests guide you through the game while helping you unlock new equipment and buildings that gradually allow you to expand your farm. On top of that, every character has their own set of personal quests that bring you closer to them and let you get to know them better. The characters may not be incredibly nuanced, but each one is interesting, has their own flaws and struggles, and most importantly, they all make you feel something, not always something positive. Gameplay: The game could definitely benefit from a few more quality-of-life improvements (especially easier access to the map and slowing down time while decorating your farm), but quite a few of them have already been implemented. Being able to store and use everything through a single storage instead of crafting ten different chests is a blessing. The interface is clean, the game remembers which gifts you’ve already given each villager, which makes building relationships much easier, and it also reminds you of every character’s birthday. The most important locations in town are close to your farm, making it much easier to get around and plan your day. Earning money in Moonlight Peaks isn’t as easy as it is in some other games in the genre, and items and upgrades can be quite expensive, which makes the gameplay feel more rewarding and keeps you engaged for longer. Cons: - The game is missing a bit of combat, especially considering you’re playing as a vampire, although for some players that’s probably a positive. - NPCs sometimes move way too fast, especially when they’re using something like their bat form. I often end up chasing someone just to talk to them, only for them to be on the other side of the map a second later. - The loading screens can get frustrating, especially when you enter a building looking for an NPC only to find out they’re not there. You can check where everyone is on the map, but you don’t always feel like opening it just for that. - Fishing is a bit meh. It takes a long time and can feel pretty clunky. - It’s a shame that the request board updates so rarely, although I do like that it also includes posts where characters are simply giving things away. - The seasonal festivals feel rather underwhelming, and whenever one starts I mostly just wait for it to end. - The randomness of the shop inventories is a design choice I’m not a huge fan of. I spent ten days in a row visiting Luna’s shop looking for one specific animal, and it became more frustrating with each passing day. - The mechanic of bringing Vampsters back to the cave could use some improvements. Carrying the little creatures from one end of the map to the other takes a bit too long. Summary: I’ve already spent over 20 hours in the game, and I still feel like there’s a lot left to discover. I haven’t gotten bored of the gameplay at all. Moonlight Peaks is incredibly addictive. Every time I play, all I want to do is keep expanding my farm, and I’m constantly coming up with new ideas for customizing both the surroundings and my house. None of the game’s flaws take away from the overall enjoyment, and I think Moonlight Peaks has a huge amount of potential. With future updates, I can only see it getting even better.
Bonjour !
After putting in an unhealthy amount of hours in this game I can say: "Damn this is good". There is so much to like about the game. People who love Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing will also enjoy this game. The gothic aesthetic and atmosphere is wonderful and I love everything about it. Every interior of every house is beautifully decorated. The characters are interesting and some are very likeable and some are less likeable, which I like. Of course there are some things that in the long run get a little annoying, like for example not being able to cook multiple instances of one recipe. When you cook a lot and have to do the skill checks every single time it gets a little annoying. Or when you place a lot of seeds, due to the animation of the seed placing it takes some time. These are really small complains, other than that I am loving this game. Maybe I will update this review in the future when there have been some updates to the game.
Toothless, empty, lacking depth, variety, choice. Very linear, main quest only kinda deal. Pass. Not worth it at even 1/6th the price.
Do I recommend this game? If you are into farming sims like stardew valley, sunhaven, coral island etc. you might find yourself enjoying this game also! For me personally as the game stands right now, I enjoy the slow grind of the game. BUT at the same time its also too slow of a pace for me. As in all farming sim games you farm, sell, raise life stock, mine, visit with towns people and romance characters, which is all great aspects we love in these games but its lacking "content." From playing games similar to this I usually find myself having to rush to get everything done within the day because there is lot of stuff to grind for, but in moonlight peaks i find myself halfway through the day trying to figure out what other ways to spend my day doing other than fishing and mining. As I am only in year one in fall season, every month seems to add more things to do. So as compared to other games, I believe this one to be more on the slow grind, waiting for major events to happen monthly to trigger new activities or abilities. ALL in ALL, I LOVE THE ART STYLE, the comedy banter stories, (getting used to slower grind, which will probably get busier as seasons and years go on), easy understanding of the game, having one giant storage (being your house) and not having to constantly pull things out of chests just to have to use it. This game still has some bugs here and there, I personally haven't experience anything super bad. BUT DEVS have been working and fixing bug issues (: I 100% recommend this game.
