This is the original Moon Tycoon city-building game back from 2001! Remember building vast lunar colonies, then destroying them with meteors and asteroids? Blast off again with the first 3D Sim game, back to the old days on the dark side of the moon. Feeling nostalgic?

Moon Tycoon is a base building/tycoon style game where you build and manage a moonbase and work through a couple of campaigns to achieve objectives. What a great concept for a game, right? Shame the delivery is flat. It's a very old game, it does run but resolution is fixed and there's no widescreen support. There's no excuse for charging $10 for a 19 year old B- shovelware game in this day and age. Sad to see such a good concept for a game treated so badly.
Cant even play the game Crashes every time on launch ??????
So, I wrote a review for this years ago but I guess I deleted it for some reason because I can't find it now. However, a few things need to be said about this. First of all: the UI was changed in several ways from the OG. This is the primary issue. If the game looks different to what you remember, that is why. I assembled a patch years ago of all the changed files (verified by a comparison program, forgot its name) into a zip, which I will link here. https://t.co/Y5hww7tq6b The files are directly from the 2001 game disc, complete with the Legacy Interactive screen still in place. DL the patch & extract/replace the files in the Moon Tycoon folder. ..That's basically it. They changed a bunch of stuff including the logo and all the legible text on the buttons to goofy cartoony icons. Bad frustrating UI changes & this reverts them all. Now we don't have to figure out what an icon of "scale" means. or "fire". or "checkbox". or "lightning bolt" contrasted with "structure that looks like a power line tower". It just says what it is. Don't know why they felt the need to change these things, it's almost like the plague of modern UI design crept into a 20 year old game. I'm also not 100% sure which came first but I'm almost positive it wasn't this because I have the disc & it's not that way there. Aside from that the game is excellent & I clocked nearly 100 hours in it back in 2010.
I was happy to find that Steam had Moon Tycoon. My copy of the game was made for Win 2000 (!), so hasn't been playable for years, I'm happily building my little moon and asteroid colonies again - thank you! If you enjoy sim games, this one is a good one - it's part of a group of sims with Deep Sea Tycoon and Deep Sea Tycoon 2, and others. This review's going to be dry, and I apologize for that - but seriously, it's worth a try if you're looking for a single player game that is flexible and as challenging as you want it to be... or not. If you like sims, this is a good one. The object is to build and upgrade a self-sustaining colony in space. There are are multiple factors to watch to make your colony successful, beyond creating and selling raw materials or electronics, that provide a challenge and variety. The game provides a decent number of starting parameters that let you tailor the game to a player's skill level and tastes: from tutorial (very easy) to near impossible to maintain. You aren't stuck building one colony at a time, either, you can have as many going at the same time, as you like - you're limited only by imagination and disk space. In my case, I have an easy one on the moon (relatively flat terrain), another in a mountainous area on the Moon, and several built on asteroids. You can also vary the amount of resources, percentages of industrial and military presence, as well as research and entertainment facilities, and manage disasters, How your colony grows and expands is completely up to you. That's the part I like best. My one complaint is the graphics, which are primative, but then that's to be expected. If you don't mind that much, then give Moon Tycoon a try.
Game wont save, dumps
Just Very Old Rubbish
Played game alot as a kid. Needs a patch as it doesn't run on Windows 11.
Not so much interface, but that nostalgia feeling when playing it as I played it like 20 years ago. Quite relaxing for me to play it.
