It's got some oddness to it in terms of sound effects and screen movements but I'll assume these will be refined further as the game is further developed. The background music is nice. It's got that ominous war-like feel to it, which fits well for this game. Animations need more work. Yes, this is an 8-bit style but that doesn't mean the animations need to be that jerky. The cards are the big sell here. They're certainly different than most others you see in rogue-card/StS type games. I do find some of them to be hard to understand in terms of how they work. The ability to carrying forward a card(s) depending on how much you're willing to spend for it is nice. (I think it would be cool to have a version that unlocks this feature for free and increases the difficulties of the dungeons as a balance. ) There dungeons are randomly set up, which is fine. The same goes for your card deck. You get five chances to pick a deck you like before beginning the game. I like this but you can end up with some weird combos. I do see this as a moderate to difficult game to win at this stage. Two hours into play and I've not been able to unlock another character. I consider myself and expert at these games too. I rarely pay more than a few bucks for a game like this but I'm cool with having done so. It's got promise. I wouldn't tell anyone to avoid it.
