Reviewing card games is what we do!
MIYAMOTO S is a small tactical game with cards that can be finished within 1 hour. It has unlockable heroes (which are based of of actual units) but they don't change the game much. During one playthough you are likely to see every card in the game, and you won't likely finish the game more than 2 times. It's up to you to decide whether 1h-2h game is worth the current asking price. That being said, for the time it takes to beat it I had genuine fun with it. It's a very simple game with no real card combos but works well as a semi-casual distraction for tactical game fans. In a roguelike fashion you enter fight after fight, adding permanent cards to your deck every time. While it rarely does anything that has not been seen before, there is one mechanic that's interesting. At the start of each fight you will create a temporary deck to which your permanent cards are added. This is done by choosing one of two cards, and the one not chosen will go to the opponent. This creates interesting decision space where you are actually building two decks; one for your opponent and one for you. While you might want to add another ranged unit to your deck is it worth the opponent getting another tank unit? As for the combat and card play: Cards are mostly units to be placed on the board with some spells here and there. Units have attack and health, and a special ability which is extremely simple, such as a buff to attack or haste. Units can move and attack but their turn ends after attacking. Cards don't cost any mana to cast, but there is a unit cap, so the decision-making mostly revolves around managing the troops on the board effectively.
The positive
+ Small and compact semi-casual experience for 1-2h. + Building temporary decks for yourself and your opponent is a fun mechanic.
The neutral
* It's an 1-2h game with very little replayability. It's not a bad thing per se, but it's worth noting. * No explanation of some abilities. It's a small game so you will figure it out, but it would've been nice if abilities like "wake up" are explained or units that move more than 1 space have some kind of indicator of that ability.
Conclusion:
Simple, short tactical game worth a few hours of gameplay but with very few reasons to replay. The temporary deck mechanics allows experimenting with different unit set up and the simultaneous building of your own and opponents decks is a cool design. It gets a Careful recommendation, due to the short time, low replayability and combat simplicity but is still fun to play the first time around as long as you know what are you getting yourself into.
This game is good on its own. But with the lack of a proper tutorial or guideline, you would be very confused about the game rules and annoyed on its mechanic. This game also adore bosses that has high health and can one shot you. I have beaten this game and it is to say without a proper knowledge on the rules, pawns, and boss encounter. You will feel frustrated losing to a boss on 2 or 3 turns. I would not recommend this since it explains the game and its units VERY poorly.
DONT BUY THIS GAME!
A cute little deck builder. I think it suffers a bit with an extremely vague rule set that is not properly explained to you at any point, forcing you to have to just learn through trial and error. But once you do get the hang of it, it's not too bad. Neat art and decent game play. Worth a look if you want something to kill time with.
Very fun and simple time killer. There's a few bugs here and there, but the only one gamebreaking for me is sometimes the game soft locks after the draft phase - a work around I seem to have found is immediately after drafting the last card, hover the mouse over the opponent's flipped down top left cards on the draft screen; don't know if that really is a workaround but I haven't softlocked since.
