Please refer to my review on Volume 2 for deeper thoughts, as I didn't want to leave near identical reviews on both games, but nevertheless... I have problems with this story's structure. It's a fantastic story. Really, it's a fantastic story, and the characterization is perhaps some of the finest in the visual novel genre. However, I am of the opinion that it spends far too much time on its weakest points--the murder mystery and the vague political intrigue surrounding it--instead of where its strengths lie, which is in the interpersonal drama and the characters. It feels very much like it's always *trying* to be a story that it just isn't, and it suffers heavily for it. I cannot recommend this game, despite its obvious strengths, because it leaves me yearning for what could have been.
Misericorde is a phenomenal visual novel that instantly feels like a modern classic. The character portraits are so expressive, the prose so sharp, and the music so gripping that you'll be hard pressed not to inhale the whole thing in one go. It's such a rare treat in this day and age to experience a work made by someone who is clearly widely read and thoughtful, who trusts the reader to draw their own conclusions and sit with character contradictions. This is a matter of taste to some extent, but if you're holding off because this is Volume 1 I would recommend going for it anyway. Xeecee has been very transparent about development of Volume 3 and the fact that Volume 3 is to be the last in the series (I know many fiction authors who could learn from this approach lol) so you won't be kept waiting for the conclusion forever.

All around great VN. I love the visual aesthetic and soundtrack, and every character surprised me with the amount of depth they've gotten just from this first volume. I'm glad that by the time I'm finally reading this the second volume is already out, because with how this first volume ends I would've gone mad waiting for the sequel. Despite the stylistic anachronisms present, I can tell the author put a lot of love and research into the 1400s Catholic convent setting, and the way the story broaches Catholicism through it's characters is genuinely interesting, even if I've never studied or practiced it. Even as someone who usually does not take an interest in VNs this one definitely has it's hooks in me now. Time to go dive into Volume Two.
I will say firstly that I am easily entranced by a good story, but it is not often that I am... enthralled by the events unfolded in one, that I ruminate over every little passage. Misericorde is fantastically written. The synopsis of its story alone is enough to have my mind wondering so fast and so far that I would not dare forget to read it. I don't want to spoil anything not one bit of it, so I will as to warn you that, BUT I highly suggest that you go into this work completely ignorant, and use only the information that the VN gives you. No outside sources. There is a lot I could say, but I will spare you my words. Enjoy the read!
good as ♥♥♥♥! i get wanting to wait up for the Full Story to be released ; there are loads of games im explicitly not playing till im sure theyre gonna get finished. but this is a really fun game, and stands on its own as something that feels big and dramatic. definitely play this, its something im immediately itching to play the second volume of - my biggest fear is that im gonna finish volume 2 and get upset that 3 isnt out yet! if you want something w similar vibes name of the rose is great, its just monks insteada nuns. this is a game that immediately makes me wanna read and watch more noir.
Gripping start to the series, incredible characterisation for each member of the cast!

I need a tattoo of Darcy immediately Turns out what stories about nuns and Abbeys were missing was drum & bass soundtracks the whole time. One of my favorite VNs 🗡️🔥🐐
