Very atmospheric game that makes me yearn for the future that the 2000s have envisioned. It reminds me of one of my favorites Portal 2, though it's less puzzle-like and has combat. Excited to try Mirror's Edge Catalyst next!
I've been playing this game since I was about 5 years old I'm 19 now and still it feels like I played this for the first time yesterday, this game is peak and inspired me and so many people to try parkour, this game started a full on revolution, I will forever have a connection to and love for this masterpiece, if you haven't played this game you need it in your life I promise it's worth a try it's a one of a kind experience, the music, the flow, the ambience, the story and everything in this game is pure perfection.
This is a unique piece of art, and I am amazed by how well it looks now, almost 20 years after the release. And it's not even the nostalgia speaking, of which I have plenty for this game, having played it on Xbox 360 upon the original release. Though it is a bit too linear for a game about 'freerunning' (coincidentally, the main group of characters is called 'Runners', not 'Freerunners'), it sure felt way less linear back in 2009, before we got ourselves spoiled by the wave of open-world titles, and by games like Dishonored. This is also a lot less polished than I recall, which likely speaks to how much my taste has improved, and how much the standards have risen. You can feel how small the team that made this must have been, and how little time they were given, and yet you can also feel the love they've put into the core of the gameplay, unlike most other EA titles. This is a short game that mostly just tells you where to go. It also lets you just shoot 95% of the enemies you were likely meant to avoid. The chases where you keep taking very inaccurate fire get kind of annoying, and you are also often fighting the controls to keep Faith from killing herself because of a weird misinput. Though because of how short it is, how pretty it is and how immersive it is, your attention doesn't linger on the imperfections for very long. It's all over before it gets too annoying or repetitive for the sake of padding the gameplay hours, and I love it. P.S. You do need to install community tweaks to make this a pleasant experience in 2026, but that's a given for most old games.
Damn its good
AMAZING game. The soundtrack is phenomenal and catchy with a unique aura that perfectly describes the atmosphere the world takes place in. Story and dialogue is authentic and good. Not the greatest story, but it will keep you busy. The entire point of the game is to parkour your way through varying elevations and branching paths in a deep and beautiful manner. I cannot explain into words how meaningful and profound the art style is. This is something that clearly the devs loved making, and I wonder why they never returned back here to their roots instead of being forced to create more unoriginal Battlefield content (probably due to the lackluster management at EA telling them to do that). Oh, and the best part? No EA launcher/App for this game.
