A fantastic short horror fps experience with some really entertaining gunplay that could probably have been pushed even further, perhaps with enemy weakpoints making hitting the right target that much more stressful.
Even if I put aside my experiences with other similar titles such as Nightmare of Decay and Dead Beacon, Mindscorn feels too brief to really draw me in, and the whole history behind the protagonist is dumped all at once on the player rather than scattered throughout the game to entice the player to learn more.
Really enjoyed my time with this small indie survival horror! You can clearly see the RE7 and Silent Hill influence. The manual reload mechanic was a fun touch to the tension during combat. Easy one-sitting playthrough for anyone that enjoys other games in the genre. I'll get into more critique below with very vague yet maybe spoilery stuff, so if you'd rather avoid that, just know that while this doesn't necessarily break any ground survival horror-wise, it's a fun time. There are a couple of "non-hotel" segments, each paying more homage to other horror games of the recent twenty years. I think these work for the most part, but the first segment lasts too long and has a few too many of the same jump scare. The pacing would have been better without some of it. Only other thing is that the gun sounds are pretty loud, hard to have a good balance turning it down for the guns but losing so much of the atmosphere. That's the only other qualm I have though. Fun time, I'm sure I'll replay again some other time, especially if it gets updated with any more content in the future, otherwise I'll be keeping an eye on whatever Mystic Craftz has coming next.
Really enjoyed this. Great atmosphere and tension.
The full release of Mindscorn is a big step up from the demo. It feels more polished and complete, with a stronger atmosphere and smoother gameplay. This game delivers a solid horror experience that really pulls you in. The creepy visuals, sound design, and story all work together to keep you on edge. If you enjoy psychological horror, thisis definitely worth playing.
Pretty good. Specifically I would highlight the reloading mechanic - adds a ton of stress and anxiety to combat encounters, which is great. A big focus on ammo management and looting the rooms of the location, some puzzle sections to break up the formula, some story beats. I found it engaging. Was stuck for a little bit at some moments but overall good, well made. P.S. in the later half of the game the FPS was getting wobbly, maybe it degrades the longer you play or its just location specific, not critical but noticeable.
The game is very clean, honestly my first horror game, hate horror but this was a good one. And quite honestly I think the devs should get themselves therapy or something because how the heck do you come up with such diabolical ♥♥♥♥. Anyways had fun playing it and my only advice would be to wear adult diapers if you don't want to spoil your pants
Very nice little horror game.
The horror games genre has always been misunderstood. They have been finding new ways to make the game scary by adding horrifying characters and exaggerating jump scares. But to play a character who is going through a mid life crises really hits home. This is what Mindscorn brings. You are not playing the game, you are living it. Every corner mocks you, every hallway sighs at you and every door laughs at you.
